Default New Worm virus for Windows 2000 users

I heard there is a new worm virus out for Windows 2000 users. It was announced on CNN who has been affected on some of its computers

They said people should check on the Microsoft Windows 2000 site to see that they have all of the updates for viruses. The virus is contracted by opening email.

Some stated they thought people should maybe avoid using their computers for a time if they have Windows 2000.

I am not trying to alarm anyone, but we on SCS do like our computers don't we? ;)

HTH,
Shirley

Our 2000 machine went down last week. :( We got the blue screen of death. Luckily we each have a laptop as well so we can still do our stuff!

Told DH, he works all day on computers & servers and viruses are just another part of his job. He said a new virus is Zotob E which opens up a backdooor on your computer, which means the person controling the virus can get into it and run your computer, runs on all Windows but only infects 2000. Thats the one I think you mean, he also found another one to look for is Esbot A which infects all Windows programs, and it also opens a backdoor. Go to www.SARC.com and you can get all the latest info on viruses.

Good Luck, and keep all your patches up to date on your computer. I just hand the computer over to him and have him do it, very convienient ;)

The way they explained the virus I was reporting was:

Once it has infected the computer it says:

Windows is now closing.....and every time you start up after that once you get to your Desktop it will tell you again:

Windows is now closing. In other words, it doesn't Reboot correctly.

They said what you need to do is wait for a solution and then call Microsoft or etc., for how to uninfect.

HTH,
Shirley
