This is currently listed on ebay, at least three different times, by the same seller: **********. Isn't this against SU rules/regulations? I thought demos are not permitted to sell items on ebay that are current (or will be current).
I don't know how or to whom to report it, so if someone else is so inclined. . . . . . . . .

Reason: Removed eBay user name
If it is a demo I don't think they would be so dumb as to let themselves be identified as one.
Or it could be a customer of a demo and purchase these cattys from that demo and turn around and sells them on ebay.
It would be interesting to know how high the bidding will go when all you have to do is contact a demo and most will give it to you for free or free with a minimum order or just hosting a workshop.
Stampin' Up! allows the sale of current catalogs, although it might be against eBay policy. The following is a quote from our Demonstrator manual:
"Stampin’ Up! has made two limited exceptions to this cash-and-carry prohibition: catalogs
and discontinued merchandise you have on hand."
And here is the policy about Internet auction sites:
"Demonstrators may sell outdated newsletters and
original catalogs and may display pictures of the
literature’s cover. Demonstrators may not sell current
Stampin’ Up! publications of any type—except the
current catalog. Demonstrators may not sell reproduced
copies of any publication, current or outdated."
FYI, we do not allow the sale of current catalogs here on SCS except in the demo BST.
its a buy now for only 8.99 free shipping or bid with starting bid for 8.99

OK I am not going to look anymore on EBAY I get too upset, and this is just the catalog I wonder how much stuff is new for more than can be purchased from a Demo!!!
This goes on every year. Not saying you don't have a right to be upset, it irritates me too. Still, a person can go crazy over this stuff. If you want, report these to Stampin Up and/or Ebay, and then just forget it. There's really nothing more anyone can do.
I do not know what everyone is upset about because according to SU policy, you can sell the catalogs. I am sure that the demonstrator wants to get her catalogs in people's hands so that they will order from her. How is this any different than from demonstrators who split up ribbon, paper, brads, buttons, etc and sell them on their blogs? They have people order them and then the demonstrators order the items and split them up then mail them out.
There isn't anything wrong about what that demo is doing. I hope she drums up a lot of business that way, sells a TON of merchandise and helps keep SU in business!
SU says that you can't sell current items on auction sites. The catalog is current thus it should not be sold. Now what part of that is not understood. I mean really.
Not to mention the ethics of the fact of letting people bid and possibley pay more than they would if they had gotten it from a Demo.
Phil, I know it's frustrating to see these auctions, but your best course of action is to report anything that you feel is against SU!'s policy and let *them* handle it.

Read entry #5 up above and you will see the quote from the current demo manual. Catalogs are exempt from the usual policy. What's going to be not according to policy is when the sneak peak items start showing up for sale if they haven't already! You should check and see how much of the Hawaiian trip and Leadership materials have already gone up for sale!
This isn't against SU policy, it is against EBAYS policy. You can't sell catalogs on ebay because they call it "circumvention of ebay fees". Turn them into ebay (at the bottom of every listing there is a report listing link.
Maybe this is nit picking, but the 2009-2010 catalog isn't the current catalog and thus should not be sold on eBay. Until June 30th, Spring-Summer 2009 catalog is the current catalog.
I just can't understand why anyone would ever buy a catalog? They should be free regardless......
I totally understand where you are coming from. I would never have started getting into Stampin' UP if I had to buy a catalog first. On the other hand, demonstrators actually have to BUY them on their own so it is a big expense for us.
I have been buying Stampin Up merchandise for the last 4 years locally in Indiana and I have had to buy each one of the catalogs that I have. Never has a demo given me a catalog. Each has cost me $9.95. I was not aware that any demos gave away the current catalogs.

They're not free for demos, so many make a personal business decision to sell them at least at their cost because they cannot afford to give them away -- especially when a significant number of people never contact that demo again to place an order, which is how the demo recoups what was spent to purchase the catalog in the first place. That $28 per case (plus sales tax and shipping) really starts to add up for those who are not big-time business demos.

Actually, it's current catalogs for ANY company (Pottery Barn, Sears, Tupperware, etc.) that are not allowed to be sold on eBay -- they call it circumvention of fees and the eBay folks really don't like it because it uses the resources of their site to solicit future off-site transactions for the seller, which eBay will not be able to collect fees from. It's no different than a business owner walking into a competing store, setting up a booth, and enticing customers to shop at their store instead. Not cool at all.

I know that my demo gave you a Catalog if u spend like over 25$

They have the policy because
"Listings that offer catalogs clutter the site making it harder for buyers to find relevant items and harder for sellers to sell actual items. Furthermore, these listings undermine the trust and legitimacy of eBays marketplace."
There's no circumvention when you buy a catalog. (it's when you buy direct later that they lose their money.)
My demo gives me a catalog for signing up for workshops for a year. We meet monthly and have to spend a $15 minimum each month. NOT a problem at all. So I guess it is free but she benefits from it as well. Like someone said earlier it is a business decision. I do know that last year she needed us to put down a $5 deposit when she ordered them as her $ was low when she needed to order catty's but then the next month she gave us a $5 credit on our bill, so it was still free!!!

I'm not a SU demo but can understand the frustration as a MK consultant.
As for the catalog issue I understand why demo's charge for them. My demo (love her!) gives them out if you host a class, join the stampin group (monthly get togethers/$15 spent) or order $100+ of product. Makes sense because her catalogs cost her a pretty penny. My catalogs only cost me 35cents so I wouldn't charge a customer. But the beauty of running your own biz is you can decide those kind of things for yourself - within company policy of course.
Wow you guys get a free catalog for a $25 order, & some demonstrators are giving them totally free!!!! I have to spend $100 (@ one show) to get one free or, host a show. Anyone have a new catalog they want to send me for free, Ill take it!
Our Demo here in NW Illinois gives us a free catalog when we sign up for Clubs. We have to buy $25 every other month, and you get hostess benefits 1 month out of the year. Since there are 10-12 members, we usually get Level 2 hostess benefits. Each demo has their own way of doing things. My demo is really great! Beth
A couple of years ago, it cost me $17.95 CND to get a SU catalogue even though I had placed a large order. Haven't bought anything SU since. I realize, now, that it was the demo gal but still has put me off the ordering. Will stick with GinaK - she's awesome.

This is I think where we have the disconnect and why people don't understand some demos charging for the catalog -- ours is not a magazine-style booklet. It's thick, and packed with full-color sample idea images. Because it's thick, it's heavy and therefore costs more to ship. Also, there are many people out there who think that SU! gives demonstrators all of their stamps, paper, etc. for free and that's not true. We buy our stamps ourselves, just like you do! We also pay for any minis you get in the mail, as well as order forms, and anything else you see at a workshop.
I am beginning to give catalogs more freely now (being able to add them to my regular orders of stamping supplies now rather than having to place separate orders for business supplies) is a BIG help!), but at the same time I don't hand them out to everyone because I can't afford that. If someone places an order with me, I'll put a catalog in their bag when the package arrives.
BTW, the free catalog with a workshop booking (as well as selling the catalog) is actually a guideline from Stampin' Up! and not just demos being hardnosed. ;)

When I first started buying SU supplies last year, my demo gave me a free catalogue; I attended her Open House for the January 09 catalogue and again I received one for free. I just signed up as a demo last month and just could not charge customers for a catalogue; of course, I will use discretion when handing them out as I did pay for them
($8 CDN each). The way I figure it is if I give away for free 8 catalogues and I get 2 or 3 good customers, then it's worth it. But as someone mentionned, it's all about your own personal discretion.
wow....thamks for sharing.....I hosted a workshop for a couple of friends and the demo/su lady gave me one free.....my friends were wondering why they couldnt get obne for free too......thinkin of becoming a demonstrator to get some things on my wish list.

There's a great special beginning July 15! And if you have a good-sized wish list, your first order over $150 within 45 days of signing up is 30% off instead of 20%!

I have never received a free catalog either---can only look at the one that demo has that day (which doesn't encourage me to buy product since I can't take it home to look at, think about and drool over). I have always had to purchase a catalog if I want one. If I understand they cost money to produce but I wonder if SU charged less for the catalog if more people might buy more. For a demonstrator to have to purchase them and for her to give them away is too much if people don't make an order. Hard to know what would be best but obviously this has been working for SU so they keep doing it the same way. As for the catalogs on eBay they are all over the place if you want one.
