I live in Buffalo NY and the closest one is in Ohio about 3 hours away. A few of us girls were thinking about a road trip...do you think its worth it??
It is a really fun store. I would call ahead, though, if there is something particular you are hoping for. For example, our store tends to not keep a huge inventory on some items, like Nestabilities. I don't know if all stores in all areas are like this or not. So if you are hoping for something specific, it may or may not be there. And print some coupons, too! Have fun if you go.
If I had to choose my nearly ideal scrapbook store then it would be Archivers so I might be a bit biased.
It isn't the products they have so much for me as how it is placed (and tidy) so you can see everything or nearly everything easily - my only wish is that they had a place to sit down and go through the dollar bins, as I can't do that easily at the moment....now saying that I don't know if I would drive 3 hours to go to one, however I would just to have a fun day with the girls... look up the store online and give them a heads up you are coming they may have a demo day already lined up or do one specially you never know (says the person who has never even made it to a class yet let alone the back room with all the lovely work tables)
I must say that I've spent some serious money in this store! The last time I was there I did the demo they had set up to make a free card. It was fun! I drive over an hour to go to the Archiver's here. My only complaints are that this one doesn't carry much of a nestie collection, nor very many wood mounted rubber stamps. This store does seem to specialize more to scrapbooking over rubber stamping--IMO. I still love going there and don't mind the distance! Actually, if it was closer, I shudder to think how much MORE I'd spend there!!!
I drive 1 1/2 hours to Archivers. One thing I especially like about Archivers is that if you are considering buying a tool they have them to try out. I was debating whether to buy Score it or Score Pal. They let me try each one several times with different kinds of paper. The sales clerk went over the pros and cons of each. It made it easier to make up my mind. I did purchase the Score Pal and love it.
It is a good road trip for a group. Yes call ahead and tell them you are coming and how far you are traveling. If someone is looking for a particular tool, they will do a demo and let you try the tool. They might even do a make & take. Ours often has free make & takes. It never hurts to ask.
I went to stamp convention in April to Akron Ohio High ligh of our trip was Archiver`s and Hollo paper store. On same road just a ways down from each other.
Next week, I'm driving all the way from South Carolina to Indiana to go to Archivers (8.5 hours)! Well, I'm going to visit my family there and Archivers is just a side visit, but I'm really looking forward to it. The closest ones to us in SC are in Raleigh, NC or Atlanta, GA. My DD & I usually take a day trip to the one in NC at least twice a year. So worth it in my opinion. Love the way the store is layed out and from my experience, the sales staff are wonderful. I've been lobbying for a couple of years to have an Archivers opened in SC - not looking so good though.
Take the trip and enjoy. Just leave the credit cards at home if you have no self control!

when I want to give the dollar bins a really good look, I take then one at a time into the class area so I can sit down and use the table to lay things out on. of course this won't work if a class is in session, but most of the time it works for me. give it a try!

Thanks for that - I guess I never really thought about it that way.
Absolutely! IMO it is a good excuse to have a great day with the girls, and the store is great! If you are going to the one in Akron, have lunch or dinner at Rockne's. It's on the same road as Archivers (Market St.). Have a great time!

Next time, make that day trip to the Enchanted Cottage in Lewisville (just west of Winston-Salem). Different from archivers (LOTS more stamps, tons of papers, more coluzzle templates than I've seen anywhere else) but every bit as awesome!

Are you going to the one in Akron, OH? Totally worth it! See what classes they have scheduled. The staff is great and I love taking classes there. They have great embellishments, paper, stamps and tools. I go there so much that my dd knew exactly where everything was when she took my husband there to get me a mother's day give this year. My dd is only 4, so you know how much she and I are there!! The mall down the street is great too!
I went to Archiver's in St. Louis when I was there a few months ago. My experience in that particular store was that it's geared more for scrappers than stampers. I do have a paper fetish so I did enjoy my trip. I liked the selection of those acrylic albums that they had and chipboard. They had a lot of ATC stuff and a ton of accessories, Bo Bunny, and other things that I wouldn't find in my local Hobby Lobby or Michael's, which are the only 2 local places around here. I did buy a pack of their brand of paper and it's not as thick as SU but they have nice colors. There's a huge scrap room set up that would look like a lot of fun to take a class in. I did go with a dear friend who, bless her heart, chatters a lot so it was a little hard to concentrate because I'm one of those who have to systematically work the store isle by isle and then back through again to make sure I didn't miss anything and if something else would accent something in my cart, and I'm talking way too much and probably not helping, but either way, you just have yourself a blast with your girlfriends on your road trip and shopping. You will drop some serious $$ in there though. I also really appreciated their embellishments as well.
Definitely worth it
check class schedule and take a class. they are usually great
It is more geared to scrappers but has wonderful stamping stuff and tools
great selection of albums also
The actual name is Archivers The Photo Memory Store
Thank you all so much...now I think we'll have to go and stop at all the extra places you told me about...THANKS ALOT!!! I dint know there was one in Akron, I could only find them in Fairlawn, N Olmstead and Columbus...can't remember which is the closest but I think 1 was 3 hours. I failed Geography..is Akron closer?
I meet some friends once a month for scrapbooking at Archivers. Not for their organized scraps but on Sunday morning. I love the store! I just wish they had more stamps but their scrapbooking inventory is absolutely wonderful! Some of the gals just buy as they create - if you can't find it at Archiver's odds are you can't find it!
I guess I'm a lucky one - I have three Archivers within 10 miles of me in three different directions! There's at least one more Archiver's in the Twin Cities and I'm pretty sure it's by the Mall of America which would be quite a hike for me but having three to chose from is wonderful!

YES! YES! YES! You must go to Archivers! It's so excited just to walk in the store and take everything in....I love all the displays and how the examples are magnetic and you can take them on and off the display boards. Be sure to take your time looking in their clearance section as well. I've found great deals! Have fun! Be prepared to stay a while!

Fairlawn is basically Akron (I guess you'd call it a suburb).

You will not be disappointed in either Fairlawn's or Great Northern. Both are stuck in the middle of huge shopping areas. If you go to Fairlawn. I second the recommendation for Rockne's. They have the best fries. The kind you find at a fair, and they give you a ton. If you go to the one at Great Northern, hit the TJMaxx and More. To make the trip more worth it, see if you can hit Pat Catan's craft store. They sell nesties for $14.97, but are not always in stock. You can call ahead. I love their stores!

I'm going to Cleveland tomorrow and plan on stopping at the one at Great Northern.
Lucky me, I actually live a few miles from the Archiver's in Katy, TX (west Houston). It's an awesome store and you will love it. The variety is wonderful. It is a scrapper's paradise but they have plenty for stampers too. They also have lots of alterable items. It's definitely worth a road trip. The employees are always so friendly and helpful too. I {heart} Archiver's!
I second the recommendation to go to Pat Catan's. It is about 3-5 miles east of Archivers. You could hit Archivers, travel east to get lunch at Rockne's...continue east on Market to get to Pat Catan's and pick up the high way a little further down. PLUS, the West Side Market is a few blocks east of Pat Catan's and they have great stuff to look at too!! The west side of Akron is a great place to shop around at! PM me if you have any questions! You could even make a whole weekend around your Archivers trip!!!

If you get a chance, stop in at Mark's and Gabriel Bros. on W. Market.
My problem is that I live too close to Archivers! I can get there in four minutes flat. It's just way too convenient to stop in when I drive by. Of course most of my supplies come from this store, and I am more a cardmaker than a scrapper. I love the paper selection there! They have beautiful DP and DSP's. Mine just recently starting carrying Nesties, but not a big selection. All the sales staff know me by recognition if not by name! They seem to have narrowed down their rubber stamps, but still have quite a few. They have grown their clear stamps. If you are a scrapper, this is THE STORE for you! Definitely worth the drive! The staff is very helpful and courteous. They will demo anything you ask for and are very knowledgeable. I guess I am lucky one is so close, but I really have to tell myself all to often to keep driving by! Seriously, it is one of my favorite stores!
Okay if you go to the one in (Akron-Fairlawn area)plan to make a day of it there is so much to do in that area. Michaels is right across the street and Joann is the next block up both super stores and Pat Catans is down the road. There has got to be about 50 places to eat in a 5 mile radius there and JCPenny is really nice there and Summit mall is just further down the road. There is also a specialty sandwhich place 3 doors down from Archivers in the same plaza. Have fun I live in Akron so it is one of my fav places to go.
Definitely! I drive 5 hours to the nearest ones and it is always worth it. I love their stores, great selection, ideas to browse, and helpful associates. Get in the car now!!
I live about 30 minutes from an Archivers and had never been. A month ago when a friend came to visit, she wanted to go so we did. It is the best paper crafting store I have visited and I have dreams about it now! You MUST make it a point to visit Archivers as you will not be disappointed!
Oh thanks alot ladies...couldnt at least one of you tell me its not worth it??? I think we will make the trip in Sept after the kids go back to school, I think we will need the break..trying to talk them into staying the night, but not sure yet.
Looking forward to going and stopping at all the great places you have recommended
There is also a big store in Butler PA. Scrapbook Super Store. I've never been to Archivers yet but I'm going to go soon.I hear they are great. Also Cord camera in Ohio is supposed to be good but I don't know. They are in a few cities in Ohio. I know Butler store is big. I've been there. good luck and have fun!
I have to tell you its a great store...I was there on Friday.....got my free pad of paper...cause I spent more than $40
also the silhouette mats are only $9.99 and here in Canada they are $29.99

We have an Archivers here. I go once or twice a year when I have enough money saved to make it worth my while. Ours has a ton of rubber and clear stamps. I love how they now have a whole passel of Tim Holtz stuff as well. Plus I love their paper selection. The one thing they don't carry is Cuttlebug stuff. Don't carry it at all.
It may be a scrapper's paradise (which I was before I branched out into other things) but I'd rather go there than anywhere else when I have the money.
