Vikki Jo, we didn't get that much snow. Maybe a couple inches is all. But it just won't warm up. At least my puppy loves the snow and ice pile we have in our backyard. She thinks it's fun to slide down it. Might have to find her a small slide for this summer; if we get a summer. I gave up on seeing Spring. Our local art association has an art in the garden tour in June. Artists set up artwork in different people's yards. I sure do hope it's not cold that day.

Here are my first two cards for April. They were just uploaded so they may not yet be visible (being Sunday and all).

Card 1

Card 2

These two are very simple as this week's challenge over at Sparkle's Weekly Christmas Card challenge is "no stamping". I used some very old Karen Foster Designs stickers I had stashed away YEARS ago.

I'll be back next week with at least two more cards!

I have my first three for April done. I really need practice with photography, though. The colors just don't come out true.

Have April's cards done on the first of the month. That's pretty good for me. Now to finish May while I enjoy my last day of Spring Break. I really challenged myself with the snowglobe this month it was the first time I had ever tried this.

Here is my card for April. I wasn't sure how to get it into the CCC 2011 area, so I put it in my gallery.

Default Hey you girls!

It's April 2nd! Can you believe it?!?!?

I've got Snowmen on my mind today.. even though it's raining and I am almost out of snow here! LOL

Frosty The Snowman

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say,
He was made of snow but the children
Know how he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that
Old silk hat they found.
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around.
O, Frosty the snowman
Was alive as he could be,
And the children say he could laugh
And play just the same as you and me.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.

Frosty the snowman knew
The sun was hot that day,
So he said, "Let's run and
We'll have some fun
Now before I melt away."
Down to the village,
With a broomstick in his hand,
Running here and there all
Around the square saying,
Catch me if you can.
He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop.
And he only paused a moment when
He heard him holler "Stop!"
For Frosty the snow man
Had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye saying,
"Don't you cry,
I'll be back again some day."
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.

Frosty the Snowman is a popular Christmas song written by Steve "Jack" Rollins and Steve Nelson and recorded by Gene Autry and the Cass County Boys in 1950. Like Jingle Bells and several other songs about winter, Frosty the Snowman is considered to be a Christmas song despite not mentioning Christmas at all. It was written after Gene Autry recorded "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and the single sold 2 million copies.

Frosty the Snowman was a response to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. When song writers Jack Nelson and Steve Rollins saw what success Gene Autry was having in 1949, singing Rudolph's song, they decided to write their own silly but catchy song doing variations on an icon of Christmas. It took them months to decide on a living snowman as their subject, but they still had it ready in time for a 1950 release. Autry, delighted with the opportunity to ride his own recording's coat-tails back to the top of the charts, recorded it, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Frosty the Snowman is a very popular Christmas song and has been a great favorite with children since the very beginning. The song gained enormous popularity after it hit the market and seemed a fit sequel for Rudolf the red nosed reindeer, a Christmas song that had been recorded a few years earlier and had proved to be a huge hit. The song (Frosty) was not only a cute childrens poem, it also had a feel-good spirit that makes for a holiday favorite.

Thanks a lot, Vikki Jo. Now I can't get that song out of my mind. When my son was in first or second grade, he had to sing it for a program. When he'd practice at home or at a family gathering, he would get as far as Thumpety thump thump and would repeat it while he thought about what came next. He would go on for at least 5 minutes before any of could stop laughing long enough to stop him. Those were the days.

Add me to the list of done for April. I can't believe it and it is only the 2nd. I did struggle with not going and buying some different colored stickles. I didn't have the right red and then I wanted a wider dark brown ribbon. I had both in my hands at then put them both back. I have a huge amount of ribbon and just made myself go home and figure out one that would work. And I used crystal stickles instead of buying burgandy stickles. I am proud of myself. Hope you guys like what I did for this month.

Lovely card. Dasher is one of my favourite Christmas stamps. But I have Frosty the Snowman stuck in my head now so may have to do a couple of snowman cards next!

Where was I?

I started on my cards for June and, surprisingly, I didn't use Frosty. I'll have them finished tomorrow and ready to upload on Monday. I think I'll have to use Frosty for my July cards, which I hope to get done this month, also, since June and July are real busy months for us. We host a 4th of July music festival and picnic for our community. Free music and free food, so if you happen to be in our area then, you need to stop by. We had someone from Norway here one year. We get a lot of Canadians, too. We started in 2002 with a slow start with about 400 people attending. Now we have to plan for 1000-1500 people. Thumpety thump thump, Thumpety thump thump, Thumpety thump thump, I got way off track. Calling it quits for the night.

Here is my Baker's Dozen for April. DH doesn't think they look like Christmas cards. Would you use them for Christmas? I am counting them anyway

LOL I try!

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Twas the night before Christmas Poem also called “A Visit from St. Nicholas"

Clement Clarke Moore (1779 - 1863) wrote the poem Twas the night before Christmas also called “A Visit from St. Nicholas" in 1822. It is now the tradition in many American families to read the poem every Christmas Eve. The poem Twas the night before Christmas has redefined our image of Christmas and Santa Claus. Prior to the creation of the story of Twas the night before Christmas St. Nicholas, the patron saint of children, had never been associated with a sleigh or reindeers!

The author of the poem Twas the night before Christmas was a reticent man and it is believed that a family friend, Miss H. Butler, sent a copy of the poem to the New York Sentinel who published the poem. The condition of publication was that the author of Twas the night before Christmas was to remain anonymous. The first publication date was 23rd December 1823 and it was an immediate success. It was not until 1844 that Clement Clarke Moore claimed ownership when the work was included in a book of his poetry. Clement Clarke Moore came from a prominent family and his father Benjamin Moore was the Bishop of New York who was famous for officiating at the inauguration of George Washington. The tradition of reading Twas the night before Christmas poem on Christmas Eve is now a Worldwide institution.
