I thought I would address the new In Colors and when they would be used right here in it's own thread. This way, if there's any questions about it - I can refer you here.
This is my decision regarding the In Colors, when they will be used in CC's, and how that will work.
Starting August 1st, 2007 the In Colors in the 07-08 SU Catalog will be fair game for Color Challenges. I feel that gives demos and customers alike the time to purchase them if they want to.
Now, that said, I don't plan to use them every week. But I also WILL use them. I know that much was said about using them for color challenges this year. That is why I am addressing this here out in the open and up front before this issue arises.
The Color Challenges (likewise with all challenges) are for FUN! I always state that the colors are a GUIDELINE suggested to help you think outside your usual combos. The idea is to use something you might not normally reach for. They are a GUIDELINE. I always state that you may use another similar shade if you do not have the exact colors suggested.
Please do not infer that I am demanding that you purchase all the colors immediately. That's your decision and I don't care one way or another, lol! But know that I will begin using them August 1st. Just remember, you are always welcome to substitute another shade and that is A-OK with me.
If I remember, I might even list suggestions if you do not have the color I chose. Or you can just ask!
It's all for fun and meant to challenge you. Not to be an iron-clad rule about what you can and can't use, ok?
Emily, you do a good job of making me look at colors differently. There are a lot of color combos I would never have thought to put together. I just want to thank you for doing this for us. I have never felt I had to buy any of the new in colors but you, with the help of everyone else, are a good enabler. LOL This thread is such a good resource for getting me to think of the "color" box.
Thank you for the heads up regarding the in colors. I was planning to get them, but now I can better pace myself so that I can play the CC more often. You are a very thoughtful sistah!

Emily, I know you are a true-blue fan of cool caribbean and can't wait to see what cool color combos you come up with using soft sky (and the other new in colors) starting in August! Thanks for all you do to help us get out of our little color box!

Thank you so much for doing the color challenges! I am fairly new to stamping and it has helped me to not keep reaching for the same colors all of the time as I am prone to do. I do not have a lot of the ink colors but I just try and find some cs or paper that has the color or one similar to it. If not I will use another ink or cs similar to the one listed. It has also made me more aware of color combinations used on cards in the gallery
Don't let the comments from others discourage you. It just shows that you are doing as intended, pushing people out of their box. It forces people to be creative and find ways to participate without having the exact colors! That can make some very uncomfortable.
You might suggest to people to use the SU Color Wheel website. I sometimes go there to select a couple of the colors and see what other ones come up. For instance the current challenge is Cool Caribbean, Marigold Morning and Pretty in Pink. None of which I have (don't you feel sorry for me). I went to the color wheel and entered in two of the colors I had that were closest to them. I entered So Saffron and Regal Rose. The combination that came up with a blue was Bashful Blue and guess what? I have that one. I have my combo to go!!
I like to live in my box and I decided to become a member of SCS to actually challenge myself and think outside of the box. Since I am fairly new, I have been following some of the challenges and really like to see what all the members have come up with on each of the challenges. The idea, the out comes and support you have for each other is wonderful. Addictive....!!!! So, here I am, coming our of my box and doing something wonderful with the products that I have (and have not) used well. Thanks,

Hey, I'm so excited to use those gorgeous new colors and my demo gave my one sheet of each yesterday-talk about hording-how can I possibly cut into my ONLY sheet? I'll have more by August and I think you are always fair about substitutions Emily. And I too will miss Cool Carribean, but I do have a stash!!! Thanks for all you do.
I may or may not buy any of the In Colors, most likely not, so I like when Emily suggests an alternative. Most of the new colors are SO close to some of the regular ones so there is always something that can be substituted and still make your card look great without compromising the CC big picture. Stamp on, girls (and all of you wonderful man-stampers, too!!!)!

Reason: Forgot the guys.
You don't care?! "One way or the other..." buh hoo hoo hoo...
Just kidding, Emily (for some reason, I want to call you Em from time to time but I don't know if that's alright). I agree with DawnL. It is a shame that you have to address this at all. I LOVE your combos and look forward to more (including and especially the ones utilizing the new In Colors.) Thanks for keeping up with it all!

This is just a suggestion - but maybe you could come up with the alternative for each of the colors now and edit your original post with that list - that way you can always refer to this post for substitutions and you wouldn't haven't to remember to put the alternative color in when creating the challenge.
(My "new" in colors are stacked up ready to go!) Can't wait to see the combos!
Well said. This way people can participate if they like but if they can't once in awhile because they don't have a color, they can substitute. What can be more fair? No one said life is fair but you're trying pretty darn hard.

do you have a suggestion on which color(s) to get first? I have only seen them in the book and on this site, so am wondering if there are some favorites yet.
Thanks for bringing this up and making it clear for everyone. Your challenges are wonderful and fun! I find it very helpful to think *outside the box*, and have fallen in love with many of the great CC's you have come up with. Thank you for all your hard work and making the CC so much fun and challenging!

Well, this is just my opinion (and I'm sure you'll get MANY more), but I totally LOVE Groovy Guava, Purely Pomegranate, Soft Sky and Wild Wasabi!
The Guava works really well with Chocolate Chip and Certainly Celery to create a wonderfully warm color combination. Pomegranate and Guava are fun to combine together as well. Soft Sky with Basic Black makes a great combo as well--the black really pops with the softness of the Sky. (Hmm, I wonder if that's why they named it that way!)
Again, just my 2 cents! Browse the galleries for other ideas--sometimes it's a certain sample that makes you fall in love with that color! Good luck!
lucky me...not my bank account! =) I got 'em all and have made several with the new colors and they are awesome! Thanks Em for the challenges..they are fun and make us be daring! =)
thank you for posting your favorites. I waited to purchased the last In-Colors saying I didn't really "need" them - silly right? I'm not going to make that mistake this time.
Thanks for putting IT out there, even though IT shouldn't have to be. I, too, look forward to your challenges, and just like many others, need a little coaxing from our comfy boxes! So, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Well said! You know that I am a huge fan and in the weeks that I don't have the exact color, I either substitute or sit out. You are fantastic to us challenge junkies and we LOVE YOU!!!
Keep up the GREAT work!
Thanks, Emily, for the fun challenges you present. I'm just new to this thread, and I want to say 'Kuddos' for taking us outside the color box! I'm lovin' it!
Oh my...I ordered my new In Color assortment just this week even before I read this post. I'm glad I did because I love this challenge. It really got me out of the box about thinking about my color combos and refer to it frequently when I'm stumped. Even though I don't participate and/or post every week, I still play around with the colors. I appreciate your sensitivity to members who for one reason or another don't have the new In Color colors. I note that it is very much appreciated when you post the suggestions for alternative colors to use for the challenge. I'm sure even members who don't have the SU colors can even come up with "close enough matches" of their own stock to participate if they chose. Everyone should participate and doesn't have to be limited by whether they have the SU colors or not. It is not about the SU colors per say but using similar colors to make the same combination of colors for the challenge.

Exactly! I'm not picky, I just want to stretch you! The idea is to put a few colors together that you might not have done on your own!

What? I have to wait until Aug 1 to see in-color challenges? Man, this just sucks *stomps away*
OK, not really  I love your color challenge Emily and I agree with Dawn that it stinks you have to explain this (but after last year, I don't blame you!!)
right on Emily, it is for FUN and I am eager to see what people do with these even though I do not have them yet! I plan on substituting similiar colors for the challenges and will continue to enjoy your awesome combos!
You are right as rain Emily. I really think that the few who object just want to object to SOMETHING. They are blind to the alternatives. You do a great job with the color challenges (making us use yo yo yellow excepted LOL)
Emily - I look forward to the Color Challenges each week & keep a notebook of them. I am looking forward to you showing me ways to use some of the In Colors besides Pomegrante & Wasabi. They are all I seem to use!!!
Thanks for taking the time to do the Color Challenges each week!

I am THRILLED that you use In Colours in challenges! I gets me using them more often. I think I'm going to have issues using the Wasabi and Guava so I can't wait to see what you do with those!
Emily First thanks for taking the time to think out of the box for us!! Sometimes I get stuck in my zone and need a shove out of it!! lol
Second if anyone objects, have they not read the title of this section "CHALLENGE" I have found myself on the short end of the colors and it makes me search a little more!! It is great for getting the creativity flowing.
