Default DGC063 - Blending Modes - 08/23/11

Hello! And welcome to our Digital Scrapbooking challenges here at SCS. I'm Nicole, your hostess, and I'm super excited to be here! It's my goal to bring you a challenge each week that will inspire you and help you get your favorite memories into your books. I try to keep things simple enough for anyone who's brand new to digi, but still have a challenge that's challenging enough to interest those of you who are veteran digi scrappers!

For a listing of ALL Digital Challenges, check in here: DGC Master List

Here's week's challenge!

The Challenge: DGC063 - Blending Modes

Here is my layout:

"At The Fair"

- This week we will be playing with different blending modes! I hope you'll enjoy messing around with this tool in your photo editing software! For this week's challenge, you'll need to have something on your page that has a blending mode applyed to it (whether that be applied to a paper you place on top of another paper, an element or stamp that you blend into your page, or text that you burn into your paper).

- For this challenge, you must have a cluster of three of something decorating your page (I used two flowers and a button here on my page).

- Incorporate at least three circles into your design. My page is full of circles! From the photo of the ferris wheel, to the rhinstones, to the coffee cup stains, to the stamps that I blended into my background paper.

Get Your Gold Stars:

- Make your layout look like it's a few trinkets and photos laying on a desk. Scrap on an angle, like we did in DGC062!

Tips & Tricks:

- The two Blending Modes I use the most are Overlay and Soft Light--but there are many others to play around with! Where do you find these options? They are effects that are applied to your Layers, so look in your Layers palette for a drop down menu. Test out different Blend Modes and see what effects you get with each one!

- Don't like the way things look? Try changing the lightness of your image (from black to white, or from white to black). Pull up the Hue, Saturation and Lightness tool (CTRL + U) and move the slider to see if you like the effects!

- Don't even know where to begin with digi scrapping? Check out this lens on Squidoo for some tips on Getting Started with Digital Scrapbooking.

The Fine Print:

Here is all your need to know info: SBC's Information Thread

You can view all submissions for this challenge here: DGC063 Gallery

To add your page to this gallery, just add DGC063 to your keywords. Please also add SBC11AUG in the keywords. This makes it easier for us to search and find your layouts.

Please remember to come back and post a link in this thread so we wont miss seeing your work! And be sure to leave a little love for others when they leave love for you.

Happy scrapping!

Nicole, can you tell us what is blended on your page? I am trying to figure exactly what you mean since I am using CM Storybook Creator Plus and not Photoshop.

I do want to do this challenge, but I'm house sitting this week and there's no internet there. Just popped home for a few mins. to check in and post some of my mini-VSBN pages, but I'll be mostly incommunicado until Friday.

Finally able to join in the challenges, my desktop has been in for repair. My laptop is 5 years old and because of that it is slow, annoys me waiting on it to process everything, lol. Nicole, I really enjoyed doing this challenge. The little girl in the layout is the Ggd of my friend and she is such a cutie. I think I have everything you wanted included in this challenge. Circles, cluster of three (wordart/cluster), I used a background paper with the blending mode set to overlay over a layer that I filled with a rainbow gradient.

Sorry! On my page the white circle flower stampy thing (LOL!) is what is blended in to my background paper. Hope that helps!

One of the things I like best about digi-scrapping is you can make a page that looks totally like a "real" paper page, or you can use a lot of cool editing tools to make a page that would be difficult, if not impossible, to recreate as a paper page. Some of those "tools" are blending modes, reduced opacity, cloning, erasing, etc.

I had fun making this page using lots of blending modes and other goodie tools too. For some reason, my DGDs just LOVE this park more than any other. It's right down the street from our house.

ENJOY - The Blue Park

Thank you, Nicole, for this great challenge. It's such a fun way learn and explore new creative ways to use Photoshop!
