I am just tickled about my new ribbon jars. I love that they are out in the open where I can just gaze upon their loveliness. ;) I have contemplated all the other ribbon storage ideas ... but this one just works the best for me. I am sometimes just a "grab and go" kind of gal. (I do still have a drawer almost full of ribbon on the spools ... but the jars are great for ribbons I have 5 yards or less of.)
Seriously, I have wanted to do this for months ... and hit it big at Hobby Lobby today! You can read all about it on my blog entry for today (there is a pic there, too!):
Friends are like the walls of a house. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes you lean on them. But sometimes, it's enough to know they're just standing by.
I *love* Sarah's jars in particular. Searched the links related to Hobby Lobby. Searched ebay. Googled. Cannot seem to find them. But there must be some somewhere. When necessary, I can be very tenacious.
I went to ikea and I found this really nice jars to keep my ribbon I also found a rod where you can hang wire baskets that I'm using to store my spools of ribbon here are some pictures. The jars were 2.99 for 4 and the wire baskets were 2.99 each the rod was like 4.00.
Jars are so pretty to look at filled with ribbon! I dont see why you could not use mason type jars there are all kinds now and some are really kinda neat....
I have to stick to my tackle box with cropper hopper mini embellishment boxes tho to save on space. BUT I will always keep this in mind for when I have my own studio ;)

I found some neat glass mason jars, some regular glass jars with silver lids at a secondhand store they were like 45 cents each. You may want to take a look there also.

Sarah, What a cool idea and I think you have your blog set up so nicely ( not that I know anything about blogs ) I love your name for it, my daughter loved watching the Anne of Green Gables, over and over again !
I was watching "That's Clever" and one of the crafters had her ribbons organized in a similiar way. At first I thought they were jars filled with Primas- but nope, ribbons.
I donm't have a ton of ribbons, but I might do this. It just makes them SO nice to look at.
The jars I got are pretty tall. I'll measure them today and post the dimensions. You can kinda tell how tall they are by comparing the inkpads (in the upper right of the pic) to the jars.
You can go to any craft store and look in the glassware section. I got mine from Michaels...they don't have lids or anything, but they are the straight vauses (about 6 inches tall) and are like $1-$2 a peice. It also looks really pretty to have a really big jar where all your ribbon is mixed together! I used to have that. It's just SOO colorful [=
I love it! Did you find them in the glass section at HL? I've only been to HL a handful of times and am still finding my way around them, so any help as to exactly *where* in the store is helpful.
I like this idea so much better than what I was going to do - I have those fiber cards and was wrapping my life away (wrapping the ribbons around the cards ;))!
Oh and Elisa - those are great! I already looked at the IKEA website and you can't order those bins online - boohoo. Guess I'll just have to wait until this fall as there is one opening about 4 miles from my house . Then I can have good "on the spool' storage as well as storage for my loose stuff.
Thanks for the help on the ribbon storage.

They were located in the same aisle as all the plain brown boxes that you can decorate/decoupage, etc. They had lots of different kinds of jars/sizes/lid closures.
I had been wrapping all my ribbon around thin cardboard pieces ... but they were all stuffed in an iris cart drawer ... not out where I could see them and USE them. I actually was pleasantly surprised yesterday by a few ribbons I forgot I even had!
I know that you can also find fun jars at World Trade Market stores! Sometimes they are for spices, but you can take the plastic part that has the holes off and use it like a regular jar.
OOH I also like the idea of using open top glass vases!
I've been thinking about these jars since I saw them on television- and now have decided I am going to go with kitchen jars with the tops painted the color of the ribbons inside.
Since I read this thread about ribbon bottle's I thought I would tell you about the one's in my gallery. They are made out of Starbuck's Frappicino bottles. My husband drinks them all the time, so I always have new ones to fill. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

I just love the whole idea of putting the ribbon into glass jars. I am have been thinking about picking some up. I saw some at Archivers today, but did not get any yet.
I love it. I use ribbon more now that I have it organized by color. I used to have all my ribbons in a box but digging in a box never works for me. Out of sight, out of mind. I used mason jars. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
