Do envelopes made from dp (with the design part facing out) require extra postage?
How do you address them - do you need a label, or would a bold Sharpie work?
I just went through my out-of-control paper stash and pulled out all the paper I really don't like anymore. (Most of it was donated to me, but still!) I made them into envelopes, and they actually made some really cool envelopes!
If it's one-sided, just use the design on the inside. It's a nice surprise when you open the envelope, and there's no problem with addressing the envelope.

I make all of my envies out of magazine pages, wrapping paper, junk mail, construction paper, etc and have never had to pay extra postage. If the design on the paper is is an overall one, I just use labels to write the recipient's addy on. I also make my own stickers to seal them. Been doing that for years Have fun creating!
I like to make cards and envelopes out of calendars. I use the little pics (from the calendars) on the card & use the monthly page for the envelope. Makes a cute coordinating card with matching envelope. I buy a lot of those $1 calendars at Michaels.

I use them all the time, it's all I use really. If I think the address can be clear with a sharpie I just use that, otherwise I do use labels. I do not ever pay extra postage (unless it's a bumpy card that needs it, I mean I don't pay extra for the envelopes being print) My post office people love them too. they are fun.

I made all my envelopes for my christmas cards last. I used a white label on them so it was readable. Never paid extra. I recieved lots of compliments.
I make a nice label from a coordinating colored cardstock, using a nestie or just cut it and round the edges to make it look finished, and the address shows up nicely and looks a little fancier than a plain white label. Good way to use up scraps!
I use my Martha Stewart score board, it has dimensions for envelopes printed on it, when I check downstairs I will get the dimensions for you. I use the Atg adhesive gun to glue it together 1/4" adhesive, and also use that for the envelope closure... I just leave the backing on that piece so that I can pull it of later and close the envelope. I have a special roll for just that purpose.
If you want to get the most out of your paper, I just made 30+ of these with that in mind.
To get two envelopes from 12x12" paper, cut it into two 6x12" pieces. Score the 6" side at 1/2" and 5-1/2". Score the 12" side at 2" and 7-3/4". Cut off the top and bottom sides (the 1/2" gutter you created with the scoring lines). Round the corners of what will be the top flap. Apply adhesive to the outside edges of the bottom flap, then fold it up (pretty self-explanatory at this point, I think).
For 8.5x11" paper, you can only get one per sheet. Cut the 8-1/2" side to 7-3/4". Score it at 1" and 6-1/2". Score the 11" side at 2" and 6-1/2". Follow the directions above for assembling it.
Please note: the 12x12" envelopes seal on the short side, but you get more envelopes as a result.
I just wait to seal the flaps until I'm ready to mail the card/envelope. Then I use my regular adhesive to close them up.

So you're saying you take a roll of ATG tape and use it without the dispenser? What a cool idea! I've been trying to find a good way to make envelopes to go with the cards I make for other people to give (like card sets), and this sounds like the perfect solution. Thank you so much!
