Just wondering...I see quite a few of the posts that feature the wheelbarrow do not have the saying underneath...when you mount this stamp are most of you mounting the saying just as it comes to you and are just not inking it OR are you separating the image and the saying and mounting the saying further away...
I just purchased this and nice and easy notes...I cant decide if I want to mount the saying separately (will they fit on the side?) as I might not always want the saying...the images are cute enough on their own or should I just do my best not to ink the saying along with the image...
know what I mean?
I mount it as one stamp then use a marker on the parts that I want or I ink the whole stamp and use a moist q-tip and remove what I don't want to stamp...(tip from Lana )
Cool...I never thought to use a Q-tip to remove ink from small areas...learn something new everyday!!! Great tip, thanks...I am always afraid to separate things like that...kind of feel like if it came that way, there is a reason it should stay that way and I dont want to find out that reason the hard way!!!!!
I do cut the stamp apart. I mount the main image on the large flat side and then mount the saying on the side. I also cut the sticker apart and show (by the sticker on the opposite side) exactly which direction to hold it. (For example...the way you are looking at it is how it will look stamped!) Hope that makes sense! :?
I mounted mine the regular way first, then realized what a pain it was to keep omitting the words or image. So then I unstuck the wheelbarrow and cut them apart. I'm thinking of doing it with the rest of the stamps in that set, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I just think I would get more use out of both the words and the image if I had more OPTIONS.

After 11 years as a demo, guess I'm not so"new" anymore!
yeah, i agree.. i am so anal retentive.. and feel like i am messing it up..so i keep mine together.. and just color in what i want...
Me too...I keep everything the way it supposed to be. It drives me nuts that my cousin gets her stamps, mounts them and then throws them in a drawer NOT in the plastic case they came in. Then she gives away the stamps from the set that she doesn't think she'll use. That's totally ruining the set in my opinion! LOL
give away stamps you dont think you will use
Unheard of!!!  you never know when you will need one...you must keep all of them!!! (Ha, Ha, Ha)
(Can you tell we've had ANOTHER snow day day and I have been stuck inside all day with my kids and not one thing has been stamped all day!!!)
Maybe later, if I'm not too exhausted...
I seperated mine and put in on the block with Happy Bird-day To You that way the set stays together. I just knew I would use the phrase Thanks A Bunch for many other projects!!!!

I do cut & mount mine seperately. There are some sets I can't seperate thoguh. I put a piece of scotch tape over the area, stamp in the ink and remove before stamping on the paper. (Do not forget to remove before stamping on the paper! )

I cut and mount the words separately. I was so scared about doing this and it took me a year before I got up the nerve - I LOVE IT!!!! It's kinda like when you first start scrapbooking, it seems like a crime to CUT the pictures! But once you start doing it, you realize how FUN it is and how much nicer, easier, etc...
I also redid Nice and Easy Notes and separated the words and images. It makes that set SOOOO much more versatile!
I am sooo freaked out to seperate my stamps like that... I did it once and really have thought of doing it to others but I just grab a marker and do it that way...I am just too freaked out by it!!! LOL
I use the scotch tape method too. Just a tip... if you cut your scotch tape a little longer on each side than necessary for finger tabs, you won't get your fingers inked up. You can remove the tape & have clean fingers so you don't get ink on your cardstock!!!!! (maybe a voice of experience!!! )
I'm cringing!!!
Hacking stamp apart..........Isn't that a felony...
a marker is so less stressful
I am afraid I will wreck the stamp and we can't have that!
I had a hard time doing the upper/lower alphabet
For those of you who are demos, keep in mind that this is a selling technique plus : The company lets YOU decide how you would like the image mounted. It is your CHOICE. This seems to take away some of the sting that they will be required to mount their own stamps. It is way cool to have all the options: separate a stem from the bloom, etc. I ALWAYS put it on the side of the original block because I want it to be according to the sticker, somewhere on that block.
I can't abide by not keeping them in the great boxes, though. That's crossing a line of pure neglect!
Now, I do have a wild & crazy friend who owns A LOT of stamps from SU! She has actually gone through & pulled all words out & put them in "Word" boxes. Pulled all hearts & put them w/ "Valentine" boxes. Pulled all baby stamps & made "Baby" boxes. I like the idea....but will not ever be able to bring myself to do it w/ my own. She loves her system, though.
Before I was a demo, I bought the set Bold & Bright, but I hated the "up and down" look. I was just getting into stampin and I couldn't imagine needing to use a stamp that went vertically. (Oh, how I've grown!) Anyway, I had my DH cut all the blocks down in size (some didn't want to cut so well, though...wouldn't recommend that!) and used a couple old Jenga blocks to mount them all individually. I went from having a few big stamps that I probably wouldn't have really used to having 24 little stamps that I used all the time! My demo was so impressed that she borrowed it and took it to shows with her. She claims she sold a few sets by having the stampers realize that you could mount them anyway you wanted!
Hi!
Okay, I confess, I'm one of "those" who don't keep all their stamps in the plastic boxes. I have cardboard trays in my Iris carts to hold the stamps, they all sit flat this way. I have the drawers labeled and the stamps sorted by type. Florals, animals, scenery, words, people, I have a drawer of backgrounds, houses, men, etc... this way my SU and non SU's are grouped together. I don't demo as much as I used too so I it's not hard to grab the current sets. I do keep my alphabet stamps in their boxes and those are in a drawer. I also keep Everyday Flexible Phrases in its box on my stamp table so it's always handy.
And yes, once you're "that" kind of stamper I have to admit I also cut images and blocks apart. Not always, sort of depends on the stamp. The nicest thing about stamping is that we are all so different and still make wonderful art together.

 It's not like I just grabbed the scissors and started hacking away or anything! I was actually a little nervous about it, too. So I didn't try it until I got triples of every SAB set because I placed a HUGE order early in January. I figured, "What the heck!" and decided to try "modifying" the stamps since I had nothing to lose. Boy, did I get addicted to the feeling of power you get when you create a WHOLE NEW IMAGE and increase the versatility of your stamp several times over!!!! Whew - it was a rush! Then I pulled out my already-mounted stamp sets looking for more victims of modification. It was a wild night, I tell ya!
I cut the words and mount them on the side if they'll fit. Others I use masking tape and tape the words if I don't want them, then ink, then remove the tape before stamping...if its the words I want but not the image then mask the image and ink the words.

LOL..I'm freaked out by all that as well. I just don't ink it or take the ink off but it seems like separating them seems like the thing to do but I keep hearing my grandfather's voice "If God wanted us to fly, he would've given us wings? but instead I hear "If God wanted the images separated, he would've given them to you that way" LOL I'll defy those ....voices....one day.....
I'm thinking medication wasn't such a bad thing now....LOL j/k

I get to nervous about cutting them apart too... I just mount mine and use a marker if I only want a certain part on my card.... maybe someday I will try it but for the last 5 years.... uhmmm... no way, everything is mounted as it looks on the stickers!! ;)
I cut my Little Hello's. Like the versitility but keep in mind they might not fit in the case they came in. Don't fret though, you can always order bigger cases

Pinefeather puts hers in on their side and they fit that way!!! It was a neat way to reorganze it and alot of others didn't realize that it fit that way...so try that!
I'm very particular about what stamps I mount the sayings on the side from. I have to make sure the is a LOT of room between the saying and the image before I will do it. It's almost like performing a surgicalprocedure. Kind of like separating "conjoined stamps." My mother in law does the separating the stamps by subject thing and it drives me CRAZY. It seems so wrong to separate them from their happy little families.
I very often (not always) separate the image from the greeting. I find it is more versatile when I do. I have a friend who also sorts all her stamps by occasion: Happy Birthday, Thank You, etc. She says she can easily get her hands on a greeting without having to remember which set it is part of. For example, All Natural, All the Best and Simple Sketches have a nice Thank You stamp, she has them all in a Thank You box.
I also redid Nice and Easy Notes and separated the words and images. It makes that set SOOOO much more versatile!
I just got that set!!! I would imagine it would be more versatile to mount the words apart from the images, but HOW??? They are so close and not in a straight line!!!!! Share your secret!! Please!!!
Trim the stamp as you normally would, and use your scissors to separate as much as you feel comfortable. When it gets too close, put the rubber on the mat (image up), and put the exacto knife tip right where you want the separation. Press down hard to make a tiny cut. I just worked at it this way, sometimes picking up the image and bending it a bit to get the knife right where I want it. You just have to slit the top of the rubber with the knife. Then you can pull it apart slightly and use scissors to cut the foam and the bit of rubber still holding them together.
I would start with the easier-looking ones and only do the really close ones if you feel comfortable. Like I said, I tried it with a duplicate SAB set to see if it worked, and was AMAZED at how easy it was! I owned Nice & Easy Notes for a year and only used a couple of the stamps because I don't have much patience for omitting with markers.
If the word part seems too small and is too "wiggly" with the foam underneath, I just take the foam off and use Crystal Effects to attach it to the wood block. They stamp just fine without the foam. I didn't have to do that for Nice and Easy Notes, though.
HTH, and have fun breaking a taboo!!! (If you do )
What a great idea to cut the sayings away from your stamps. I never would have thought of that. So, I have an extra set and I am going to cut this morning. Thanks...I hate masking and coloring in.
In reference on how we store our stamps. I must have too much time on my hands...I have mine stored in my craft closet by alphabetical order. I have the luxury of having a walk in closet converted to shelves, shelves, shelves, in my craft room. I use the Catty as a reference when my 'mind 'does not work. I have CTM (7 yrs. collection stored by theme in rolling bins.
