? about Mono Multi (the famous adhesive in the green & whote bottle)
I have my first bottle of mono multi which I bought after hearing its praises here. It seems to hold really strongly but I have one concern about it. I have used it on several cards where I used designer paper of some sort as a layer on top of cardstock and it makes the paper wavy. I can see along the edges where the paper is stuck down and where it isnt stuck all the way to the edge, KWIM or does this sound crazy?
I am not using too much, which I did the first few cards I made and it squirted out of the edges so I cut back and used a thin line around the edge.
Do I need to make sure to get the glue all the way to the very edge of the paper? Would I do this by rubbing it with my finger or something?
I just need a little help with this stuff and I really dont like the way it made my paper looked warped, you know?
Thanks so much!!
You might be using too much ... a little goes looooong way especially with something as lighweight as designer paper. I have used it to adhere lightweight paper and haven't had any problems with buckling or warping but I don't use a lot and I really smear it in so there are no globs. I just dot it on and then use the big side to smoosh it around really well!

I'll try the "smooshing" technique on the next card. I don't *think* I am using too much but I am a total adhesive junkie that literally covers the entire (I'm serious) back of my cardstock with snail, when I am using snail...so it will be hard to cut back but GREAT if it works, thanks!
I use the diagonal tip to squoosh it to the edge of the paper (when I'm adhering for an altered book, for example). For a card, just a thin squiggle and I don't worry if I'm not on the edge cuz I know it won't fall off!
I just got some too. I wasn't crazy about it at first because it was messy, then I found out *IT* is not messy, it was ME! I have learned to LIGHTLY squiggle not too close to the edge. I am one of those like JPMAYO that puts it ALL over the back. It is faster than the double stick tape for me and so far so good. Now I have to figure out where to buy it. I bought one at a craft shop in Reno, but I only go there once a year. That won't do it for how fast I use it!!!! Does anyone know if I can buy several bottles at once? Will it dry up if you don't use it right away? I don't want to invest in lot's of bottles if it is going to dry up.

Try scrapbookpal.com. It is only $1.99 a bottle. I have 6 stocked up for about 3 months and they seem fine. Shipping is reasonable and they have lots of neat stuff.

Does anyone know how to get it off of the outside of a card? I am getting used to it, and I too use too much. Is there an eraser or something?
SU has a glue eraser, or you can buy the exact same one (by Tonic I think) for about the same price. It's only about $2 and is a square brown globby looking eraser.
As for the mono multi, I quit using it mostly because I apparently apply too much and have the same wavy problem. Haven't used it in a while, so maybe I'll have to pull it out and try it again!
I ordered from frugalities.com. Mono was 2.98 - not as good a price but I needed a couple of other items I could not get at scrapbookpal.com, and filled in the order with Mono, in order to get free shipping ($25 minimum). Good service at either place.
I use a thiiiiiin thiiiiin thread. Seriously, like a piece of sewing thread. Not too close to the edge, and a squiggle in the middle. Never had any warping and one bottle lasted me 3 months!
If it is a large piece I use a thin line down the middle. If it is on card stock I don't spread it I just stick it to whatever I am attaching it to and rub the "good or dry" side with my finger to spread or smooch the glue under it around. If it is thin or designer paper I still go with a thin line down the middle and I use a scrap piece of heavier card stock as a "squeegee" to spread the glue around making sure I get each corner. If it is a small piece, whether it is card stock or thin designer paper, I just use a teenie tiny drop on each corner and maybe sometimes a fine line connecting each drop. I use the SU rubber adhesive remover on pg 226 to remove any excess that may squish out. It is true "a little goes a long way" it holds great!

Those brown globby looking erasers are usually available in the fine art section of Michaels or AC Moore - I think they call them adhesive erasers instead of brown globby looking erasers ;-) I was surprised to see them there. I bought mine from my CM consultant - I thought they were harder to find!
As for the mono multi - I have found I like the 3M Tacky adhesive for paper better because it doesn't buckle your paper.
Took me a while to get used to it. Somewhere in another thread I read that you should use tiny dots of it and now it works great for me. Just put little tiny dots around the edges of the piece, but not too close to the edge, that way you can move it around a bit to get it positioned just right before smoothing it down and you won't have any squishing out around the edges and no buckles. If it's a big piece I will add a few dots around the center too. I haven't used my double sided tape since I got the hang of using the mono and it lasts so much longer and dries really fast too. I never thought I'd grow to like it so much, but I'm sold now.

The only things I use my Mono Multi Glue for is: Gluing down Primas, ribbon, adding small pieces of paper. Buttons, Fiber.
I too don't like the way it makes my paper warp. So I have learned to use it for the small stuff. I used Double Stick tape for putting my cards together.
I tried a long time to get used to this and couldn't get the hang of it. I ruined many a card by having too much ooze out. I think it is me, not the product 'cause there are too many folks who love it.

The key is to use just a little. A thin line is all you need. If it is oozing out then you are using too much. Don't use the wide end of the glue bottle. Try again, it is great stuff.

The first couple of cards I used my mono on warped. I had clear embossed the stamped image (lighthouse scene) and you could also see the lines of glue behind the image. I still use it, but have learned to use it very sparingly. Just small little drops along the edges and a couple in the middle. I have used it on designer paper and so far so good. It is saving me a ton of money. I use my tape runner for clear embossed images, photo's and ribbons that I am adding to the cards.
Debbie (redheaded witch) talked me into trying it and I love it! I too, just put a thin squiggle close to the edges and haven't had a bit of trouble. She ordered a bunch of it in bulk and we all paid her for it. I don't know where she got it, but she's super-nice so I'm sure if you PM'd her, she'd tell you!
I have been using this glue a very looooong time, and I love it. And the first tip I would give about preventing warpage is: a teeny weeny bit goes a looooong, looooong way. Seriously.
I never use more than a dot or two on the corners, or a very thin wavy line around the edges and middle of a larger piece to adhere. I scrub it lightly onto the area with the small end, being careful not to get too close to the edges, which allows room for oozing. After practicing with it several times (and ruining a few projects by using too much), I found that the lighter I apply the glue, the less chances there are for warpage or oozing.
The green mono-multi is a terrific glue and has great holding power. But it is VERY DIFFICULT to get if off the project if it oozes. Even with a glue eraser it takes a lot of rubbing and messing with it to get it to come off.
My advice: the more sparingly you use it, the better you will like it. :-)

I have the Mono Multi and use it for heavier cardstock - works well for me...but I wanted to also say I bought the 3M tacky adhesive about a month ago at Micheals (with the 40% it was about $3.50 for a nice sized bottle) based on a recommendation from someone here at SCS (for glueing designer paper to wood - which I still haven't done yet) and have used it for 2 different projects...LOVE THIS STUFF so much!!!! (haven't used it with thin paper only cardstock...) I did a bunch of shaker ornaments last night where I used it to glue a backing to the entire ornament...BEAUTIFUL....I plan on buying another bottle as backup so I never get stuck without it

Here's another plug for the 3M/Scotch Tacky Adhesive. I totally adored my Mono Multi until I tried the Tacky Adhesive (Michael's had rebate coupons for them). I cannot tell the difference between the Mono and the Tacky. The Tacky is also a better bargain....the Mono cost me $4.50 for a bottle (0.88 oz) and the Tacky is $8.99 for 4 oz...(CDN prices:-)). Like the Mono, just use a little of the Tacky...goes alooooooong way.
I bought some, too, after reading the rave reviews. I don't like it! It's much harder to control than Mono Adhesive or SNAIL. Into the trash it goes . . .

I'm sold on the MM. I haven't had any problems with warping on any kind of paper. My "technique" is to lightly scribble the glue all over. Doesn't take much.

I have used it several times over the past few days and it is working really well. I am using a lot less than I first did and that has helped me, I still get a little tiny bit of it coming out of the layers once in a while but I just wipe it with my finger and it is gone, no eraser or anything like that needed. I will probably use it more than I use my snail from now on and I have 3 snail refills to use but I think i'll buy another bottle of the MM before I go back to the snail...maybe i'll use them when my stamping friends come over and save "the good stuff" for me:twisted:
Thanks for all of your help with my little dilema, SCS is such a wonderful resource to have!!
I love this stuff. works great!! As said above a little goes a long way!! I put a snall drop on a fine tip sable paint brush and just brush the corners of my project. Just rinse the brush in water to clean. I like to use the paint brush when I'm doing "assembly line" cards for swaps. Seems to go faster for me.
