Default About Those Ornaments...

Okay, I finally broke down and bought some ornaments. Here's my only beef - and please tell me if I'm being too anal about this! I don't like how you can see the marker strokes (I used Sharpies) on the acetate. I tried the ornaments with the Holiday Hedgehog set (only usable X-mas set I have to use with these ornaments) and just couldn't seem to get past the fact that I could see the marker strokes.... :( Does anyone have any tips for this or am I just being too gosh darn picky??

Karen

No, you're not being too anal! Here is a link to a fabulous ornament and I think you will be interested in learning what she used to paint the images:

I just picked these paints up at Michael's tonight and they were $5.49 for a starter set of 12 colors. I figured it was worth trying, because I'm like you - it bugs me how the marker strokes show with the Sharpies. Hope this helps. Linda

I know what you mean! I'd like to know how to avoid them too. I don't have Sharpies, but I've used the regular markers on vellum & don't like seeing marker strokes. With vellum, it helps to color on the underside, but I don't know about Sharpies.

If the Apple Barrel gloss works, I wonder if Plaids new Enamels would too. Hmmm ..... May have to give this a shot.

Default marker strokes

I had the same problem. I still use my sharpies. I keep a little piece of cut paper towel (about 1 1/2 square inch works for me. The smaller piece is just easier for me to work with. Also I cut it to avoid fuzz sticking in the wet ink) nearby when I'm coloring on acetate. If you'll color in the area you want, then almost immediatly tap that paper towel piece straight down and straight back up (to avoid smearing), it evens out the color better and takes care of those streaks. You have to be quick but not too quick or you'll take too much ink off. Just test it on a scrap of acetate. It's very easy. Hope this helps.

I dipped the tips of my markers in a glass of water, dabbed on a paper towel, then colored the image in. It worked great for me.

You could also paint the images with Crystal Effects mixed with reinkers.
