Default Adhesives that work!

My biggest challenge is what to use for adhesives on my projects. I use the mono adhesive because it's so simple but often the cards seem to pop apart. Would love to hear what works for you or any suggestions. Thanks, Rebecca

Hi! I have a couple of favorite adhesives that do away with the "pop off" problem. Walmart carries a double sided tape in a disposable container called Easy-Stick by Manco -- I use the permanent variety. It comes in a four pack for under $9. It is applied in the same manner as mono-adhesive but the dispenser actually works and so does the tape.
My other favorite is carpet tape that I get at the dollar store (I get the really cheap kind that does not have the nylon fiber grid....that kind shows behind some light weight papers.) Carpet tape will hold ANYTHING to your card front....once it touches the paper it is there for perpetuity . If you make a mistake in positioning it can be lifted with Scrapper Solution sticker remover, but other than that once it's on it's not coming off!
I also like the 3-D glue dots when you need dimension - they have incredible adhesion.
Good luck in your seach for an adhesive you have confidence in and like to use; what one person likes the next may not care for

Hello,

I simply use double sided tape when making cards. I've never had a problem with my card coming apart. I've gone to the business Costco in my area about bought several rolls for very cheap. The brand I use is 3M and it's in a yellow box.

Default Adhesives that work

I am really carefull when I use the double sided tape because I mailed out tons of cards at Christmas this year and my son called and said"neat card Mom, but it came apart" Needless to say (I'm somewhat red faced.) Now my cardstock was of a very heavyweight red cardstock so maybe that was the problem. I didn't here from anyone else but now I am very careful and check just before mailing anything out. I also used the 3-m by the way.

Default Mono Adhesive

I only use SU's Tombo permanent monoadhesive and I have never had a problem with it. I have cards tossed around in drawers and I've seen my Christmas cards in homes and they were all just fine. Is this what you guys were having problems with?

Default Adhesives

Depending on what I am working on I use different adhesives. For those die-cut boxes I use "Tacky Tape" or "mono-adhesive". I found that if you put the tape on both sides of whatever you are trying to adhere together it works better than just one side. The new mono-adhesive dispensers work great. They don't get tangled up like the old ones. I use tacky glue for buttons, ribbon, etc. I also use double-stick tape and I've never had a problem with my cards coming apart. I gave up on glue sticks. They just don't seem to work for me. Carol

Default Adhesives that work (or don't!)

I find that anytime you make a card that has fiber running underneath a layer or anything else that puts a contant pressure on the cardstock to separate it almost always will, no matter what you use.

Except for Crystal Effects. CE works wonderfully for gluing boxes together so that they don't come apart. I've used double stick, I've used the Hermafix squares, I've used everything SU! sells and then some and CE has been the most consistent. CE tends to get cloudy after it has been open for a while, so I usually save the cloudy bottle for using as glue and order a fresh new bottle to use as a glaze or dimensional glue.

I agree that the new Mono dispensers are much improved over the old; I've never had a new one foul unless it was improperly loaded to begin with. I love that you toss the tip with the cartridge; the build up of "Mono boogers" was one of the most aggravating features of the old cartridge! Before I signed up as a demonstrator I finally ended up trash-canning my old Mono cartridge because of the constant problems getting the adhesive to dispense properly! The new ones are so much better and the adhesive sticks better than it used to too.

Since my cards are on display I've found I need to use more than the dab of monoadhesive to get them to stick togethers, since gravity itself is pulling the layers apart. One of my customers is appalled by the amount I use when demonstrating; she's one of those "a little dab'll do ya!" ladies! But I use more since those little dabs do not work in keeping layers together in this climate when the cards are hanging on the bulletin board or on a display board.

I have found a double stick adhesive that really works and is much cheaper than Mono Adhesive! It's made by DUCK and it's called Easy-Stick. It comes in permanent and repositionable (I use the permanent)and is applied just like Mono Adhesive. It's sold at WalMart in a four pack. It will even hold heavy buttons and the like without letting go. I use Aleen's Clear Gel Tacky Glue for adhering card fronts. It lays down a very thin bead of glue and holds forever! I run a brayer along the sides to make sure it's got good contact. The only thing I've found that works consistently for gluing the insides of cards is a scrapbooking glue stick made by Memories Forever. When the paper is placed where I want it, I rub over it with a clean, soft paper towel to seal the edges well.
