Default Advice on New Products

Good evening!

I am returning home to the USA (WOO HOO!) in about 6 weeks for some surgery that they don't do at the AF hospital over here. When I am home I want to make sure I stock up on my craft and stampin' goodies!

I mostly use Stampin' Up! products but am curious if anyone has any suggestions regarding any products or tools that have surfaced in the stores in the past year or two that you'd recommend that I check out during my brief trip home? I am definitely going to try to get one of those Scrap Paper Scissors organizing totes when I am home! Anything else worth looking at ladies?

Appreciate your input! Have a great evening!

The scalloped punches oval, cicrle, square are HOT, HOT, HOT but can be very tricky to find. If you are recooperating w/ a family member perhaps you could have it shipped prior to your arrival. Joanns.com carry them as well as other online sites.

I would say the selection of ribbon in Michael's Archiver's, & Cord Camera have improved greatly in the last couple of years. Chipboard is very popular, as well as Prima flowers.

Hope all goes well for you & when you're able - enjoy your craft shopping!!!!

OMG where do I start. Do you have the cuttlebug if not get it and fill up with dies/folders, cricut and cartridges and the crop-a dile. Those are some of the big ones. You probably do the same as the rest of us order all most everything on line. Since I don't know what you already have its hard. I guess just getting to any LSS would be great for you. I'm in search for those new little pearls right now. Good luck with your surgery and have a great time at the LSS.

I'm sure the room is an issue but the little paint pails and tin boxes with handles have been popular to alter.

I am SU demo - so I am covered there - I meant products you can only buy at Michael's, Jo Ann's or A.C. Moore. Suggestions?

I agree with the Crop a dile, Cuttlebug (esp the A2 embossing folders) and also UltraClean stamp cleaner.

Oh my! While I'm bummed you gotta go back for surgery, congrats on the TDY! I feel your "pain" in a way and will ask the same question in about a year or so... Anyhow, good luck to you and the surgery... and on the quest for goodies!

I just got my Crop-A-Dile and am so stoked! I want to carry it in my purse and show everyone... it's THAT cool... DO get one while you're home... Also, if I could be "beamed" home for a quick trip to the crafty stores, I'd look for the Cuttlebug, the Cricut, etc... I'd choose one to love and bring it back with me... I hate not being able to touch/feel stuff like that before I buy it... So touch 'n feel everything you can get your hands on while you got the chance ;)

dont carry your new cropodile in your carry on baggage on the way home. It could get confiscated by security officers. I think that happened to some of the SCS'ers on the way home from CHA this past fall.

Good luck on your surgery and hope you get some great scrap purchases to bring back with you.

Some other things out there that weren't mentioned that might interest you are doodle templates which are fun to use with chalk, ink, pens and markers. Of course, there are so many chipboard shapes out there to get... I love Thickers and Glitter chipboard. Have you got some Glaze pens? They've been around a long time now but if you don't have them, I definitely recommend them...they are so much fun (dries dimensional so have the look of being slightly embossed and shiny).

Then I would move on to buttons, Autumn Leaves and Foofala are my faves.

Hope you're getting lots of ideas from these posts by everyone. Happy shopping to ya!

Another vote for the cropadile and the cuttlebug.
The reason I like the bug instead of the cricut is that the bug is not electronic; it's a simple machine. Having said that, I use mostly the embossing folders in my bug and not the dies so much. If you get a bug, be sure to grab a couple extra plates if you can, just in case.

I plan on mailing myself a box of my purchases rather than take anything on the plane and have to worry about customs and security...

Red face

Good Luck on your surgery - A few years ago, I came back to the states on a leave due to back to back overseas duty. I sent back 26 boxes to myself! Never, ever regretted shipping it (it was everything from dishes, to crafts and clothes). The poor guy who house sat for us went to pick up our mail in a sports car and had to make 6 - 8 trips!

Highly recommend shipping everything you can - traveling light in today's world is MUCH easier!

Good luck again!

I would also recommend a visit to an IKEA if you one is near where you will be! They offer great storage solutions at great prices!

I'm new to souffles but they're kinda fun! They're lightweight and don't take up much room. Go for it!

Not sure if stickles have been mentioned yet. They're a high quality glitter glue and fun, fun! There's also an awesome glitter pen out now, great for adding just a little bit of sparkle.

What fun you're going to have!!

Thanks Lisa - those stickles glitter inks DO look really cool! Do you know if they sell them at Michaels? I will definitely be checking THEM out! Do you know how well they coordinate with SU colors?

Oops, I didn't read your original post careful enough. SAT! Let me please throw in another two cents in: maybe a small Xyron? You will appreciate one especially if you get the cuttlebug and one of the alphabet die sets. Olivia alpha is my fav.

You are being showered with lots of hugs and prayers concerning your safe journey and upcoming surgery.

I'd also add in the essential glue ink pad, which comes with a reinker and lets you stamp and then cover with foil or glitter. There are also a ton of colors of Staz-on now, if you like that type of ink. I'd also hit the embellishment sections hard, and if you will have an address you can have things shipped (in the US) I'd start shopping now so goodies can roll in (and you can decide what you need more of before you leave!) I'd check out www.queenandco.com rangerink.com gellyroll.com and heidiswapp.com for some ideas of fun stuff to look for. It will be VERY easy to get over-whelmed, so decide how much you're willing to spend before you start shopping!

That said, the die cut machines are great, and if you're looking for the MOST versatile, that's probably the Cricut, since the size of the letters/shapes cut is adjustable and you can use the negative images as well. Also, the cartridges for new alphabets are expensive (I think the cheapest I've seen is around $60 each...which is pretty comparable to other machines) but very LIGHT, so if you have family in the US who can ship them to you it won't be as expensive (or heavy) as shipping other options (like the cuttlebug, for example). You can't emboss with it, however, so if that's a goal you might want to choose a different machine. I like the new one from Sizzix which takes all die sizes and will work with any company's dies, even the big ones. Not super-portable, however.

Hope that helps and please report in after your surgery so we'll know you're ok!
