Count me in - I have two sisters that also stamp (we're a heinz 57 family - African American, Native Indian, Irish, Portuguese, and German . We have a small stamp group and its the 3 sisters, a Japanese, and an Italian. I think we have our own little United Nations. We go on a lot of road trips to LSS, a convention, and a retreat and we rarely see African American crafters. I've always wondered why.
Scrapbooking is for anyone with a creative mind...

The real reason why you dont see that many is because alot of them feel like it is not a hobby that we are involved in. They do not have the time for it and what they say is when you say "scrapbookin" the first thing comes to mind is older WI women. It is too funny I just crop with who ever wants to crop. I cant make them do it if they dont want to. This is like therapy to me....;)
I'm african american and I create cards (and do a little scrapbooking but not much.) I love creating cards and i sell them after adding my own poetry.
I also write children stories, poetry and screenplays. So I'm multi-creative.
Right now i"m trying to find outlets for my cards. I sold a few for birthdays, mother's day and give some away as encouragement cards but i get more out of just seeing where my creativity will take me.
So glad to meet you and can't wait to see some of you work.
I'm here too, I'm definitely a scrapbooker first though!! My best friend is an SU rep (she's not black) and she is slowly getting me hooked. I've been making cards for a couple of years and love the card challenges here. I don't post my scrapbooking LOs because they contain a lot of personal info about my family but I do post most of my cards here. I haven't run into too many of us while scrapping although I did meet a great friend when we were living in OH (we're military and move every few years). We met on the Memory Makers Magazine MB and got together for some crops and LSS shopping trips and are still good friends three years later.
Hi there! Have you heard of Keisha Campbell? She's my scrapbooking hero! I don't think she comes here, but here is her blog: http://abiteast.typepad.com/abiteast/
I stalk it on the daily and just devour every single one of her projects! She designs for Making Memories...lucky lady

You know I have the same problem with people in my age bracket. I'm 27 and married but no kids. When people here that I stamp and scrapbook I sometimes get funny looks, lol! Not alot of people understand this crazy hobby, I dont' think it's isolated to African Americans, lol! As long as we all have each other to support, it's all good I've survived off of my PSF's(pretend stamping friends) for 3 years! While it would be nice to have more IRL stampin friends, I feel like I get more done alone anyways
Hi, I am not AA but I am married to an AA . There are quite a few AA here on SCS. If you browse the challenges you can find some of them. One that does most of the challenges is Jackie here is the link to her gallery
and yes, Dee has been mentioned before and replied herself already and she is very talented. Love all of her creations. She is one of the sweetest people.

Wow, what a great thread. I've been wondering about this for a while, becasue like many of you, I'm AA and have no AA stamping/scrapping friends. They all compliment my work, but they would never try it.:( Any way, it's nice to see that there are other women of color who are in LOVE with this craft. Unfortunately, I haven't had the nerve to post my cards, but I'm sure one day I will...
Thanks again for this great thread, I now have new blogs to stalk!!
This is an interesting thread for me. I am a teacher and I run "Craft Club" at school- it's a great activity for the kids and not only gives them someplace to hang out after school, but also gives them skills in hobbies and crafts. We do scrapping, stamping and cardmaking, crochet, needlework- whatever they get interested in or I am doing and share with them.
My school is very diverse- black, white, asian, hispanic- a real United Nations. The kids in the craft club come from every background, but although there are more African-American students in our school than any other group, they make up the smallest part of the club. I have not figured out why that is, but that's how it has played out.
I have enjoyed reading this thread a lot and gotten to see some really nice blogs I had not visited before. Thanks to the OP for starting this.
