Default Alphabits?

I saw in the gallery a lot of cards made with alphadots and I like them. I haven't seen any cards made with the alphabits from the mini spring catalog. Does anyone have it and do you like them? It looks like the little letters are so close together that it will be a nightmare to cut them out and try to place them on my cards but I like the looks of them.

I am trying to decide which alphabet set to get in my starter kit next month (scrabook add on). I don't love what they suggest which is pure & simple. I like alphadots or maybe alphabits (?), contemporary or alphabet fun.

This is the scarry part about doing this in April instead of July is I don't know what will be in the new catalog. I don't have old cattys to go back and see if something has been in a long time maybe making it about to retire. Since Alphadots was in the mini spring catty of '04, maybe Alphabits is a sure thing for '05.

I think you need to check the gallery again for Alphabits. There are quite a few cards - I know because one is mine. Look under the "Spring Mini Catalog" section and all of those sets are grouped together.

I have the alphabits and they are really cute! You definitely need to get one or both of the punches in the mini to cut out the letters though. (the 1/4" round and square). Someone else on this board clued me to a great way to pick up those little letters and place them where I want them...

gently stab them with your paper piercing tool (crafters tool kit)! Works great and you can't even see the hole in them. It is much easier than a tweasers or my fingers.

Default alphabits -

I have the alphabits and both the square and circle mini punches that go along with them. Love them - they are easy to use and a must have for scrapbookers.

Oh thank you Witty. I was just looking in alphabetical order so I missed it. I saw your picture you did, your sky was amazing!!!!

So do you guys that have them, leave them in whole sheets? Some cards had the full sheets and some had just a few letters out of the set. How can you cover the rest while you only stamp one letter?

I got alphabits and I was unsure if I would like them, but with the small square and circle punches they are so versatile and fun to play with. Definitely look in the gallery under the Spring Mini. I think they would be great for scrapping to put little captions under pictures, I used mine in my husband's welcome back card and made them into a little banner. They are so much fun!

I have the alphabits with both punches. See my card in my gallery:

Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

I demoed at a show last night, but didn't even use them for the cards we made. I just brought it along in case anyone wanted to see them. As soon as we were done making the projects, one woman immediately asked about them, and they proceeded to stamp and punch all kinds of words and phrases. I sold 6 of them complete with both punches. It's like getting 4 mini alpabets in one set, which is very appealing.

I wouldn't suggest Alphabits as the alphabet for your starter kit add on. For one thing, it is a mini catalog set and you can't be sure it will make it in the big catalog. You'd have an alphabet you could only demonstrate for a little while if it doesn't make it.

Plus, these are tiny letters. Not very visible on a scrapbook page. Personally, I LOVE Alphabits and yes, get the matching punches. You can't use our hand held 1/4" hole punch since you can't line the letters up through the hole (covered by the chad-catching jaw.) I put each one as I punch it on a mini glue dot on the roll and leave it there until I am ready to stick them down. You can check my gallery for a couple of cards I've done using them. I'm pretty sure they will make the big catalog, but you never know...I know I'm going to sell the heck out of them while they are available!

I'd go with Alphadots for your starter kit add on (be sure to get the 1/2" circle punch and some dimensionals to go with them.) But then I also like Pure & Simple Alphabet since it goes with everything and it's in the scrapbook add on, so you can be confident it won't retire this year. I'm not too sure about Contemporary or even Alphabet Fun. I'm betting Contemporary retires and either Alphabet Fun or Quirky will too. I'm hoping of the two it's Quirky, since AF is the first alphabet I bought. It's great for kids' pages!

I pretty much will stamp out a whole square and then if I need one or more of letters I will just stamp that "portion". For example I needed another O, so I just stamped the bottom half of the stamp and placed it close to the edge of my white cardstock so it would be easy to get to. Other people have said they ink up the letter or letters they need with a SU marker, then they haven't wasted much . . . you may find a technique that works well for you!

Thanks! I will definitely get them for myself now and I will buy the punches as you suggested. I now totally understand how to get one letter - thank you Kristina. And per JanTink's good advice, I think I will go with alpadots. I really like them anyway and since they just came out last year, I will take the gamble that they will be in July's catty. Great cards in the gallery on alphabits by the way.
