I have to say, I really don't like Carte Postale at all! Is there anyone else that feels that way? OK, don't slam me! I see the great things you all make with it, and I KNOW it is a really popular set, but I really just don't get it. The whole "different strokes for different folks thing" ... and I'm sure that we all have a set that is popular that we really don't like that much, but I hope at least ONE person will say they don't think the world of Carte Postale. Like I said, you guys do great work with it, and when I see what you do with it, I appreciate the set more, but I still don't think that it would ever be for me.
OK.... that my first post Christmas note! On to the New Year!
Cynamom don't feel guilty!! I do not care for it either...Many love it, and are making wonderful things. We do not all have to like everything...merry christmas....happy new year!!!
I feel the same. Exactly what you said different strokes. I am in love with a lot of sets not many care for. I absolutely adore Hip Hip Hooray and everyone in my stamping group just looks at me side ways every time I say it ;)
I certainly don't want this to be a Carte Postale bash thread. I love the cards I see. But I don't 'get' the set. Maybe I am not 'worldy' enough? 'French' enough?? I love the Fleur-de-lis (spelling?) image...I have this image stencilled going up my stairs in my home. But for me to own this set, I would have to have a 'connection' with it and I don't. Flowers, yup, I get them. Birds, yup, get them too. But anything French? No connection. (except for my stairs :rolleyes (oh, yeah, Bodacious Bouquet is flowers and since I've bought it, I can't make it work!! ....there goes my theory ;) )
But you are right. The cards they are making are beautiful.

I am not in the "I HAVE TO HAVE IT" category either...I think it is a style thing..... i didn't like any of the "Toile" either...I do not like Houndstooth, or any of the lace bkgds. I HATE the linograph bkgd. It is definately a style thing.
I LOVE this set, but ... I think this is one of those sets that benefits greatly by being in the hands of a creative person, KWIM? I've learned over the years that I do better with sets that can be colored in or do not require huge amounts of talent to figure out layouts, etc! So, while I love the cards I've seen with this set, I'm not going to buy it.

It a bit too frilly-ish for me. It's okay if you don't like it. Actually, there are a sets that get a great deal of exposure here that I just don't get. And, sometimes, one starts to look good, I buy it and then wish I had stuck my first impression. ;) Not liking every set is a good thing.
It's not on my list. Actually the only stamp in that coordinated group I like is the French Flair background. That's the reason the IB&C has over 200 pages. Everyone does not have the same taste!
I love the set to little bits....absolutley love it. In fact, I think I have reached for it the past several times I stamped and that was the only set that I used.
When it first started showing up, I started a thread with the link for the set in the gallery and I know alot of people didn't like it because the words were in French. They hoped that the set would show up in the states in English. So I know you're not the only one. ;)
I'm learning to speak French so that could be a huge part of why I like it so much (that and my DBF is French Canadian and speaks the language fluently.)
I thought it was pretty but wasn't sure about getting it, but now the entire collection is on my wish list, after seeing what my upline did for us for Christmas gifts this year.... major enabler!!!!
I like the comment about the IB&C having 200 pages... actually it's 250. Plenty for everyone's style! Don't feel bad if you're not into the hottest thing. Another craze will be along in 2.5 seconds.

I like it, and thought about it, but decided no. I would love the Mon Ami stamp. I took five years of French in high school. However, I don't know exactly what I would do with the rest of the set. The Carte Postale is stamp is not something I feel that I need, and I don't think I have the talent to use the rest of the set.
I do love the French Flair bg. I think it would be perfect for a wedding card, so I may get that.
There are plenty of other things that I want to buy in the mini.
When I first saw Carte Postale and French Flair, I said a definite "no way am I ever buying those stamps". Well, I think that I have definitely changed my mind about French Flair (thanks SCS enablers), but I still am not crazy about Carte Postale. It's just not my style.
At first I thought I had to have it. Then I found, for $6, the foam Memories set that has the images that are almost exactly the same. Bought that and while I might use some of it for backgrounds, it is just too elegant for me. I just don't care for the look. I do like the wheel that goes with it and will get that because I think it will make a very versatile background with my flower sets. I got the memories set at Impress. They are having a 10% off thank you sale right now and if you put Thank You in the sale code they will reduce your order by 10%.
I have it... I like it... but....
I must admit - I do think that all of the images seem "separate", IYKWIM.
It's not the love of my life though. Ya know?!?!
Side note - ever buy a set that isn't you, but you want to try it anyways?

Hi Cindy....I have seen some absolutely beautiful cards made with it but it is definately one that I won't purchase. Not because I hate it, but because it's just not that "me"! Anyway, the cards that I have seen made with it have been cards made by those "cream of the crop SCSer's" whose cards would be wonderful even if they were made with a carved potato dipped in finger paints...know what I mean, jelly bean????
You're not alone, that's for sure I DO like the wheel very much, but the rest of the set, just isn't my style. I like cute and whimsical, and I don't do well with elegant. I can appreciate the cards made with it, but even then I'm not "blown away" by them either. But it's been said before, that's one of the greatest things about SU, there's something for everyone!
While I think it's very nice, it's not my style either. I love to see the projects others create with it, but I doubt I will ever want to have it myself. I am a bit surprised at it's popularity, but it's nice to finally see something that I don't feel like I need to buy!

Wow! I think it's a GOOD thing when you don't find yourself "in step" with the crowd, lol! Maybe that's just me? while I am one that DOES adore the set, I can really relate to this thread....
The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same thing, kwim? I have seen some adorable projects done with sets that I don't personally care for. The "style" just isn't me. Still, I get inspiration from them.
Don't ever feel bad for listening to your own sense of style.
