Default any fun ideas for using card fronts (not home made cards)

I received a bunch of christmas cards this year...I'm sure most of us did and I don't want to just throw them away...but I don't want to keep them either cluttering up my craft space! Do you have fun ideas for using the card fronts?

Just wondering if there is some great idea out there I have never heard of! Thanks!

I have cropped them & re-mounted them on cardstock for a new card. I add ribbon, or embellish with glitter, etc. Then I send them for the holidays next year. I have people on my list that just don't appreciate the true handmade card, so this way they still get a card & also, I don't have to spend too much time on it. LOL
I have a card in my gallery that I cropped & added embossing to it, it was just a plain card, and I didn't want to toss it.

I crop them and use them as scrapbook page embellishments and the bigger ones, I put in a bag and use for tags for presents next year.

Do you have children? When I was young we would use clear contact paper with the card fronts and make pacemats. This is a great craft for kids, and if it doesn't turn out perfect, it's OK.

You need:

Clear contact paper (the design kind is nice)
Construction paper (for laying out the cards and having a size limit)
Precut card fronts

Arrange cardfronts on the construction paper; removing backing from contact paper and lay it over the top; turn project over and lay another piece of contact paper over the back. When trimming, be sure to leave about 1/2 inch of the clear edges so that water cannot easily enter the placemats.

Kids love using these as holidays come up, and they make great gifts for grandparents, etc...

Birthday and anniversary placemats are nice too.

Call a VA hospital or Senior Citizen center or Retirement Home!

My grandpa/ma both volunteer at these centers and the centers cut off the backs of all cards (not just Chrismtas cards) and then glue the fronts onto cardstock to....drum roll......recycle these into new cards. The cards are then either given out to the people who live in the centers or they are sold at drastically reduced prices in shops at the centers for the residents to purchase. The residents go down a few times a month to pick up things for their rooms: chapstick, little trinkets, cards. They are all on limited budgets so having these cards at 10 for $1.00 really helps them out.

I save all my cardfronts during the year, then about November, I send them to G&Gpa/ma.

You can send them to ME! I am saving card fronts for a church in CUBA. They barely even have paper there!!!! And they want our card fronts to make crafts out of. So if you want to de-clutter PM me for my address!

Default card fronts

I've cut the fronts off and used them for Xmas present to/from tags.

Default Recycled Christmas Cards

When I was little, a friend of the family made me a "Christmas ABC Book." It's like a scrapbook. There is a cute poem for each letter ("A is for Angels in Bethlehem's sky. Glorias echoed from on high.") My Mother has since made one for each of my 2 kids. They made a very special gift. When my daughter was 2 1/2 she wanted to read it every night for about a month. By Christmas she had it memorized!

Default commercial cards

Thanks for the ideas. My idea is more for note cards - like those sent for fundraising. I use "greeting" stamps for the front, and often add a verse to the inside - hospitals, nursing homes, etc. can use them - but residents often do not want the blank note cards.

Cut the designs into circles, whatever size accomodates the design. Sandwich two of the same size back to back with a long piece of fishing line between, and glue together. Keep going until it's as long as you like for a holiday garland.

My aunt made Christmas ornaments out of them. She cut them into one inch(?) strips then punched a hole on each end and attached with fasteners. I think someone said they were like Chinese Lanterns. Anyway, they were used to decorate a HUGE Christmas tree at the art center. You couldn't even tell they were paper from a distance.

Default recycle

I redo some of mine into new Christmas cards for childrens charities or the soldiers. What I don't use will be sent to a ladies group that will mount the fronts onto new cardstock and send them off for to soldiers.

I good way to reuse some is: for a snow scene crop it to desired size and after stamping a small snowman and cutting it out just mount it into the scene. So cute!

If you want any of addresses for the charities just PM me and I'll pass them along.

I'm trying to add an picture attachment, now I just hope it works!

My kids have made Christmas ornaments using the card fronts and the lids from cans of frozen orange juice.

I have never done this, but I have long thought a neat kids craftt would be to take the ones with the Biblical Christmas story and make a book.

You could on the computer write simple story or copy from the Bible for older children. Then make it into a book leaving room for the kids to paste the appropriate picture.

I don't know if this makes sense, but I have been saving mine for this purpose.

But I like Laurel's idea. I am sure the people in Cuba will treasure them.

I usually sent the card fronts, without writing on the other side, to St Jude's Childrens Hospital. They use them to make new cards. I've also used them to make Xmas tags.

One of my friends uses them to decorate gift bags, like from Bath & Body Works. She uses the card to cover up the store's name. The gift bags were way cute!

If you have a square punch, punch out different parts of the cards then using your krylon pen, color the edges. Next line them up how you want on a card, stamp a saying on either the side or top or bottom, depending how you lined them up. You can layer if you want, this makes really nice cards.

My Grandmother made Christmas Alphabet scrapbooks for all of her greatgrandchildren and my Mom is making one this year for my first Granddaughter. For each letter she takes pics from the old cards. A for Angels, B for bells. Some get tricky.
