I hope that some of our expert designers here on SCS can share a few tips about how they get such GREAT shots of their cards! I just love the lighting and backgrounds they use ... mine never look that way!
Because there are SOOOOOOOOO many great designers, I am not going to name names (don't want to leave anyone out!) ... but I really love the "look" of a white background with great lighting ... the card is standing up (generally). These shots just look so professional to me.
So, ladies ... what are your photographing secrets?
Thanks for sharing ... from someone who is striving to make their creations on display look "a notch up" from how they look now!
Usually, I found natural daylight to give the best results BUT was having a hard time (patiently!) waiting for those perfect times of day! So I got one of the small OTT lights (simulates natural daylight) and have a permanent spot set up now where I can photograph at any time of day or night.

HTH!
Yes, an OTT light ... I have one of those! I think I will also set up a permanent spot where I can take shots.
I just LOVE how your creations are photographed, Sharon! Thanks for sharing!
All I know is I'm trying to scan some cards I just did today (not that I'm sharing here, lol ~not good enough yet) but my colors are really coming out horribly!! I tried editing & adjusting the colors, but it's just not working!

Some of my pix of my cards are sideways. I can turn them in my photo program, but these don't come from there. Is there a way to rotate them after I upload them to SCS?
There was an interesting article in Stampers' Sampler a while ago about the magazine's early days. They said it took them a while to figure out that they got the best results when the photographed the cards from the top, not standing up. It was a lightbulb moment for them. I notice that some people do have awkward shots of their cards leaning against something distracting, and I think about this article. Focus, zoom in and cut out the periphery, and use natural lighting whenever possible (someone earlier had a fabulous tip for artificial lighting). And get those cards on their little backs!
And now I'm ready for tips for scanner pictures, 'cause that's where I need help.

Thanks, Seewah! Also I forgot to mention that I usually use a small table cloth as a backdrop but occasionally just put up 2 pieces of cardstock that compliment the project -- one behind and one for the card/project to sit on. So that's how you could get your nice white background, too -- c/s.
I also found the best setting for my camera to be the (I think it's called) macro setting? For closeups -- on mine, it's the little flower icon. And yes, by all means what another poster said -- crop your photo so you don't have any distracting background clutter!
As for turning/changing the photo orientation -- There *may* be a setting when you are uploading to do that, but I do know that after you've uploaded the photo, you can do it by selecting Edit Photo, then right under the thumbnail there are options to flip, flop or rotate! I believe your photo will have to be reapproved then, so don't freak out when it says it's pending approval!

I also use my flower (super close-up) setting on my camera, but I don't have an Ott light, so I just hold the camera back really far from my project and then use the flash. Holding it back prevents the flash from washing out the colors and making the whites glaring. Because I use the flower setting, I still get really great focus on the details.
I just set up a make-shift area in my craft area (under one of my Ott lights) and took a bunch of pictures of some cards. Uploading them to my gallery now. They look SO much better than my other uploads. Still room for improvement ... but it's a good start!

You can rotate, as was said before, but I think that editing on your computer might work best because then you can crop the image or fix the colors as well!
