My dh just got an asignment to Stuggart and I was wondering what was available over there and what should I take? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Oohhh..my hometown is 20 minutes from Stuttgart..*jealous*...have fun over there!!!
Can't help you with military related questions, but I can tell you their soccer team is awesome and they have a big fair coming up in April (kinda like the Oktoberfest, just a little smaller)....*sigh*...
Luci, I know there are at least a couple of people on here that live in Germany. They should be on later - it's the middle of the night for them right now. Are you a demonstrator?
USED to be an Army wife in Germany.
We were in Schweinfurt - about 2 1/2 hrs from Stuttgart. Been there once...
Loved being in Germany. I bet you will, too.
I'd be happy to answer any questions you had.
Hope I can help you out - let me know.
But I would like to know if someone out there is and what kind of supplies are available out there. I would like to get some good contacts established before I leave if there is nothing available over there. Also I have some housing questions.
My BF is getting married to a navy officer and moving to stuttgart in july! we have already arranged a care package shipment of SU supplies every other month, or every month if i am feeling ambitious--i'm just afraid of committing to anything more regular! she has studied, traveled, and visited there extensively, AND has many friends living in the area, so i will ask her and get back to you!
I was in K-town 3 years ago, and loved it! The supply selection there is limited on base. I know Stutgart was the same (had some friends that lived there) German people don't seem to be as crafty as US people, so I didn't find much for craft supplies on the economy.
I sold my crafts at a local craft shop on base (wasn't into stamping at the time) and did pretty well. People just can't get access to things like in the US. You can always order supplies, the mail system is great. It just takes a while sometimes. Let me know if you have any more questions. Have you been overseas before?
Good luck on your new assignment!
I am at Spangdahlem AB, Germany right now. We have been here since 04June. I don't know what the housing situation is like at Stuttgart but here we had lots of options offbase. If you are planning on living off base then leave your electical clocks in storage (they don't keep the right time) but you can bring your phones (they just need an adapter). If you have a sponser, check with them on what appliances housing will provide. We didn't know they would give us a microwave so we brought ours which won't work even with a transformer. For our base, the housing has some 110 outlets, but most everything is 220 so check your electric appliances and things for dual voltage (computers usually are). With people coming and going, there are always tons of small appliances for sale. If I would have known better I wouldn't have brought things like the coffee pot or iron because it's easy to pick one up for $5 or $10 then lug a transformer around.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
