Default Anyone else do this?

I was just wondering if anyone else took all the wood blocks out of the set and checked each side of the wood. I then usually mount the stamp on the "ugly" side of the wood and the sticker on the "pretty" side of the wood.
Is this normal?

I do the opposite. Only because for some strange reason I think the ugly side will cause damage to the rubber part.
I know--don't ask me why.

Yep, Anal I am, I do that, too.

And I have to sand them first, and I coat them (twice, sometimes) with polyurethane, and I have a spaz when the Basic Black stains the rubber, and, oh, that's enough, lol. You should have seen my poor daughter try to stamp before I managed to get them all coated. The poor girl couldn't even look like she was going to touch an ink pad.

I'm SUCH a bad mom!

Sure I do the same thing. I don't want a dark spot interfering with the lines of the design and I have gotten a few that were pretty dark.

It may not be "normal," but I do exactly the same thing. And I'm not even anal about ink stains, etc.

Me, too! One of the things I LOVE about stamps is the look and feel of the wood blocks. I always check both sides and have the prettiest side showing.

Way back when Stampin' Up first started, they offered many of the sets with a choice of either rubber mounted stamps or wood mounted, and because money was a little tight, I opted for the rubber ones because they were about half as much - therefore I could have TWICE as many. YEAH!!

After a couple of orders with this philosophy, I realized that I HATED the rubber mounted stamps and would rather have fewer stamps of better quality. Evenuually Stampin' Up only offered the nice ones.

It IS nice to know I'm in excellent company with my many stamping "quirks."

"normal" ...uummmm - not a word usually used to describe me & I like it!! I love the look & feel of wood & put the most interesting side up so I can see it. Very disappointed when the wood is plain (or 'normal'). Maybe it's just that creative people are drawn to 'things' that have more going on with them!!

ROTFLOL!!!!

I SO do this too!! I'm alittle particular about my craft supplies and I like to have everything look nice, it can be well loved, but it still has to be in nice condition. So the ugly part of the wood definatly gets the rubber

Right on, sista!! I know I don't normally care *what* my stamps look like, but it just bugs me to have to look at an ugly *flaw* in the wood before I even ink up my stamps. Now if there is a wavy, uneven surface, I call SU and tell them I'm sending the block back and tell them to send me a new one...the quality of the blocks has gone way downhill over the past two years. I won't mount on wavy wood...it will affect the stamped image. ~ K

This is just WAY to funny! I do this and guess I've never really thought about it being anal, just making sure everything looks nice. For some reason I think stamps work better when they are clean and mounted nicely. I have such a hard time watching a demo at a convention and their stamps are all inky - yuck!

Oh, I definitely mount the rubber on the "ugly" side. Unfortunately, with a handful of blocks, both sides are not that pretty to look at, but what can you do. I just go ahead and use them because I don't see any difference with the stamped images and I don't feel like going through the trouble of a return/exchange with my demo.

Guess I'm anal too. I sometimes even ask DH which side he thinks looks worse if the block has two ugly sides! I tend to save the two sided uglies for my least favourite image in the set (provided there are others of the same size), so that my favourite stamps get the pretty blocks...

And I was happy just laying out the stamps on the blocks before I started to adhere them so that I knew that I would be able to fit them all on and not put the wrong one on a block and have to re-do them again!!! I guess you make that mistake only once (knock on wood)

LOL I used to do that when I had some wood mounted stamps. I guess not all wood blocks are made perfectly.

Okay I have to throw this in -

One more thing to obsess about - I can just hear my DH now! LOL
