Yes, it's a tradeshow...so you may only go if you're a store owner (online ones count, too!) or an employee of such a store. And we do have SCSers who are such people. I was lucky enough to go with my LSS (Local Scrapbook Store) owner (I work their on a casual basis) to MemoryTrends in Vegas in October. Wow! Overwhelming!!! Both the show and Vegas! Hahahaha.
Those of us staying behind do get to have some fun with all the sneak peeks coming out!!!
Oh! But I came across this (sounds like she's a Basic Grey design team member) ...I'm a *HUGE* Basic Grey fan...check this out...

Hi Guys!! So glad you all love BasicGrey (as much as I do!) and I wanted to let you know that they hear you on the request for some new fonts, etc. There is indeed a new format from BasicGrey in the works that will make it's debut at CHA Summer, but for now it's still in development.
Currently (as in for CHA Winter), the new lines will have the 18 paper (6 solid, 12 pattern), tag and sticker sheet you have come to know and love from BasicGrey. Their new lines are absolutely stellar and they are going to be offering FOUR new lines at this winter show. They are yummy and rich and I have no doubt they'll feed your desire for something new from BasicGrey
There will be some peeks at these yummy new papers beginning January 25th, so please stay tuned and get ready! These lines are so amazing and totally new for BG and I know it will knock your socks off!
Eek! 4 new lines! I stil can't get over Dasher and Fruitcake and Blush!!!!
You can join CHA as a Teacher/Educator. SU Demos (and other companies) fall under this category.
Cool! Thanks for that info, Michelle!
I forgot that CHA is an *association* after all! Hehehe.
I read (on 2peas) that they will be enforcing the 'no cameras allowed' rule this year. Bummer. But dude...grab as many samples and freebies as you can! (You could have a freebie giveaway on your blog. ;) Tee hee.) We'd love to hear about your thoughts after the show, too!
I will be there Demonstrating for Marvy Uchida! Come by the booth and do a few Make and Takes... They are gonna be super fun. I will be there every afternoon.
The show is not just for Retail stores to attend...manufacturers, designers, media etc who join CHA can attend. Pretty much any Craft industry (knitting, wood work, painting etc) can join. You can check it out at www.craftandhobby.org
BTW... there are always employees of SU browsing the show... they want to stay on top of the trends and new products too!
OM GOSH! That would be hilarious! You will be able to get a free mini heritage ink pad at one and a Pencil box at another though!
They have a new paper trimmer that they are introducing... I really like the blades on it. really safe.

Here are some tips I gathered (from 2ps) with regards to what to take along to MemoryTrends in October...should be applicable to CHA, too. Now, these are from a retailer's perspective. My added comments are in purple italics.

I have been to tons of trade shows and I couldn't live without the following:
Water (if you can bring your own it will save you time in line and lots of money, average cost $3 per bottle)
Mini stapler I didn't have a need for it, personally.
preprinted address labels/stickers for order forms. They save so much time and hand cramping.
clipboard You can even decorate it ;) A mini clipboard would be great!
small notebook for ideas, list of booths to see, etc. I never travel anywhere without a small notebook! Beats writing things down on bits of paper which might get lost.
calculator (for those late night order forms back at the hotel)
chocolate (there is usually plenty around the booths but I bring some anyway for energy boosts) (Energy bars!)
your own business cards and a credit letter for new companies with store logo, bank info, list of companies you do business with, store pic, website, etc.
a small empty suitcase if you're flying for all the catalogs, etc. I used to pack clothes in small case and put small case into larger case on the way to the show so I only had to deal with one bag on the way there.
My tips:
Comfy shoes!!! A *must*! I saw lots of people wearing those Crocs. And if you can find them, the Mary-Jane Crocs are quite cute.
Peppermint foot lotion (for example - the Body Shop's own) !!! Dude, your feet will be sore at the end of a loooooooong day!
I brought my carry-on, rolling suitcase to the show to stuff all the catalogues & schwag I was getting. They get to be quite heavy! Many people had these (or any other bag on wheels).
Hi-liter...to highlight, on the map, the booths which you don't want to miss.
Most of the big booths have cool make'n'takes - get there early before they run out of supplies!
Check out booths with 'bigger' ticket items...like all those die-cutting machines. And ask questions as to which materials can be used...cutting surface...dies... I wish I had done more of this, because it's a great opportunity to see what's on the market all in one spot and to start comparing them.
If you have time, check out one of the local scrapbooking/stamp stores. Check their website to see if they have any specials or classes during CHA. Print out directions ahead of time or email them and ask.
I think that's all. I brought along my digi camera and my iBook so that I could upload my pics - I took *tonnes* of pics. For me, MemoryTrends was overwhelming, being my 1st show! I now have a better idea as to which booths I want to check out next year.
Anyone else have ideas to share?
Cris
PS Dunno about Anaheim, but Vegas is HUGE and as such you do a crazy amount of walking!! *lol*
Many times manufacturers will want to send catalogs in the mail. this is a great thing if you can go that route! I bring a ton of business cards and MAKE SURE that I get theirs. I also make notes on the back of them with important references to our conversation. This has been a HUGE help this past year.
Take advantage of the M&T's...they are a great opportunity to rest your feet while you soak in the booths creativity!
Oh..and I bring Emergen-C. It really helped when I started feeling run down!
CHA is the Craft and Hobby Association. It's where the new scrapbook, rubberstamps, etc... are revealed. This is normally the idustry stuff, like Heidi Swapp, My Mind's Eye, Making Memories, etc...
I went a few years ago. And this time it's in my neck of the woods. So, I was just seeing if there was anyone going. There is also a stamp convention that same weekend. And I can't miss that...lol
Oh, man! We were planning on having a booth this year but we got so busy with everything that we decided to do summer instead. So, we'll miss all of you who will be there!!!
Have fun for me! LOL

Tell me I know what CHA is but where is it and is there some info on it that one can look at?
There's info posted by LisaLisa about the show in the thread link which I posted just above your post.
CHA = Craft & Hobby Association (not just stamps & scrapbooking), but we mean the exhibitions, held 2x annually (in diff. locations in the USA). There's a Winter CHA & Summer CHA.
Here's their website: CHA
It's exciting because most scrapbooking companies come out with new releases at CHA!! Great way to learn about new trends!
So, are YOU going to CHA? If you are, can we find you at a booth? Just walking the show for interest?
I'm going, but just to ohhh and ahhh at all the fun stuff!!
I haven't visited this thread in a couple of weeks, and I see it's been merged with another thread! Joan - since I like you SO much and you are a GREAT person, you might just be getting a goodie or two from the show! ;)
Thanks for the tips Cris & Lisa (Lisa Lisa)! I can't wait. I am very excited.
I have found out about a few more SCSers that are going, but they haven't posted to this thread, so I won't name names. I am going to meet up with a few of them which will be fun! I'll report on how it all went after the show!
I'm so anxious to hear about all of the new stuff that will be announced at CHA. Does anyone know someone that may be attending CHA that could report back to us about their finds???
CHA stands for Craft and Hobby Association and they hold conventions/trade show - this one is their Winter event. They advertise it as the "Crafter's World Fair". Vendor from EVERYWHERE usually will announce new products at CHA. Only supplies, buyers, and professional crafters can attend, and if I'm not mistaken, you have to be a member. Here is a link to their website. So, since I'm not a supplier, buyer, or professional crafter, I can't go, but surely there are others out there with friends who might be.
