I went to Michael's last night and noticed they had a ribbon holder that looked pretty neat. It was black with clear flexible plastic sides and had three rows inside - two smaller rows - which would hold the organdy, gingham and cord sized ribbons and a larger row at the bottom - not sure if it will hold the grosgrain or not. There was a slit cut through the pastic to pull the ribbon from and it was pretty tight - so the ribbon wouldn't just fall out all the time. It was $20 and the whole front zipped open and closed for access and there was no dowel in there - so you could take them in and out pretty easily. I am thinking I might go and try to use my 40% coupon and try it out. I didn't get a paper with the 50% coupon in there. I have the stackable ribbon units from target - but I don't really like them - I bought four and while they hold all the ribbon - the ribbon falls out of the slots and had to go on dowels - and it is a pain to take one roll out for a workshop - as it is always the middle roll and you have to take them all out to get to it!
Has anyone seen the one I am talking about at Michael's? Does anyone have it? Do you like it? Does it hold our grosgrain?
I went out and got one - Here's the picture! I love it - only I have to return this one b/c the front is torn on one side - but other than that - it is really great!!!! And - I could get another roll or two of grosgrain in there if I wanted. There is also a small row on the top where you can add those itty bitty little rolls of ribbon you get at michaels. Very easy to load and remove and to thread the ribbon through the front. And - it is closed from dust
There are little trays the ribbon sits in - they are curved on the bottom so the spools sit in the tray. so - the upper rows would be fine if it weren't full - the small gingham might fall over sideways - but just put it between two larger spools. The bottom doesn't have a tray - they just rest on the bottom of the unit - so, I'd put a small box or something in with them to keep them standing upright if you didn't have enough to fill it.
I like it b/c you can see everything at a glance! And - of course Michael's also has spools of ribbon on sale for $1! - so i bought a few more. Going back for another unit after the egg hunt.
That looks like it might be a little better than the hard plastic things from Target which I hate! But it looks like you'd need 2 if you had all colors of everthing...doesn't look like you have any of the narrow organdy. I'm going to take a look today myself. The problem is also desk/tabletop space to store this thing (for me anyway) - or does it hang somehow?
I do like the rain gutter idea & it can look real nice hung on the wall out of the way. If you haven't see it, a couple of weeks ago love2Bcreative posted some pics of her stamping space in the gallery.

You are right - you'd need two if you have all the ribbon - I don't have all the wide organdy - and only two of the narrow organdy ribbons - I think I do have all but two of the grograin and two more would easily fit in mine even with the extra chocolate role, two silver and one gold roles that are in there.
Thanks for your reply. I think it would handy for weekend crops. It is always hard to transport lots of ribbon in an organized maner and I do love my ribbon!
I saw this at Michaels yesterday but thought there was wasted space as the first gutter could only fit the bobbins which are such a waste of money at 99 cents. I ended up by using my 40% to by the plastic ribbon storage which is perfect for all the spotted ribbons that where $1 each on the sale. I ended up by buying 10 reels!! So I'm happy with my purchase and don't feel that I should have bought the larger black one.
I bought one today and will be going back later this week to use my other coupon to buy another. Did you notice that there is a little place to store your scissors on the outside?
I plan to use the top 'shelf' for odds and ends rather than the small spools.
I ran out and got the ribbon storage unit. I have more ribbon than I thought, and now I can see them Only thing, I had a row of spools inserted before I noticed how grimy my hands were getting. I may have just gotten a grimy one, but be sure to wipe the little plastic shelves off before you start putting your ribbons in.
Thanks so much for posting this thread!! I went to Mike's this morning to pick one up, and just finished filling it up! I have been struggling with ribbon storage and have tried many different things. I think this one will work great! Thank you, thank you!

WHAT ARE THESE WONDERFUL HOLDERS CALLED??? WHO MAKES THEM?? I have been to my Michael's and they don't carry them. Those who live in this area: Fairfield, Vacaville and Vallejo, CA------ DO NOT carry them. Please let me know who they are made by so I can find these wonderful storage units. Thank-you in advance. =)
I'm in Folsom and my Michael's has lots of them. They are keeping them in the ribbon section. They were a bit difficult to find as they were on the top shelf with no identification (they are black on the sides (no packaging), and also a few on the very bottom shelf, but you had to know they were there!
If you still have trouble finding them, let me know.
Thanks! I got one today using a 40% off coupon. Mine isn't quite full, but if I keep buying ribbon it will be. Now I'm torn on whether to use Friday's 50% off coupon for another ribbon organizer or if I should get the Melting Pot like I had planned. Hmmm....
I have been following the threads about ribbon organizers the past few months and decided that this is the one I would try. I used my 50% off coupon at Michael's in Raleigh, NC, today!! I like all the discussion about different products and storage items at SCS!

Okay--my Michael's thinks I am crazy! I have been stalking the employees since this was originally posted trying to find this without success! Anybody able to find it anyplace else? Thanks!
I bought one last week and one of the employees was gaga over it. She wanted to know where I found it LOL! I found mine in the area of the wedding ribbon. They had a bunch stacked on the top shelf and some hidden on the bottom shelf.
Thank you! I may just have to pull one of their ladders over and take a look myself. One employee told me that she wished they had something like that I'll be near a bigger Michaels this weekend---I'll have to look there.

I didn't know this but some of the Michaels don't get the same things as others do!
We are 45-50 min from Columbus so we don't get a lot of things. We have a Target but it could fit inside most Target's, our Jo-Anns is really bad and I guess our Michaels is just not as well stocked. I picked up a bunch of really cool paisley paper so it wasn't a wasted trip Plus--I am taking my oldest DD shopping in Columbus this weekend for her D.C. trip. Guess I'll check out the "big city" Michaels!

Yeah, I was thinking about that when I read on another thread about their Michaels letting people pre-purchase the new Cricut machines with their 50% off coupons. MY Michaels never lets you use coupons for things like this. For that matter, I haven't even heard anything about them even getting the Cricut. Hmmmph.
Thanks to the original poster! I bought one for me and a friend yesterday and I love it. Dust free, easy to see and easy to use! I don't have any bobbins so I used the top row for some ribbon that is not on spools. I had been trying to figure out how to store my ribbon and this is great!
OK, this is off track, but SIANNE....I LOVE your picture of your dog! I used to own a Basenji also and they are such great pets. Clever little devils though! LOL

LOL He would probably be flattered that you thought he was a bigger dog! He is actually a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and has little short legs and a long body with big ears! His name is Stumpy. Thanks for the comment though it was from his 1st birthday party and he had cake (made out of dog food of course) and his sisters had to wear party hats too. It was funny.

LOL, definitely look HIGH and LOW - I would have totally missed them if I didn't know what they looked like. At my store they were on the bottom shelf in the ribbon aisle, turned sideways so all you saw was a black strip. I never would have known what it was if I wasnt specifically looking for it.
