I am not doing well!!! Went to Archivers and spent a pretty penny and bought a bunch of used Sizzix stuff from a friend. I got a lot for my money but definately didn't NEED any of it. I have stamp club on Tues and have decided to only spend the minimum - - this is sooo hard!
I agree, I am having trouble. I did manage to avoid Michaels and AC Moore today. But I did have my 3 sons with me so I guess it doesn't count! I have been using stuff, but I keep adding. I will stop! I have to for myself. I really do want to save. I have cut way back on buying coffee out, eating out and buying snacks, drinks etc that really add up. That may have to be enough for me.

I have fallen off the wagon, dear sisters. I ordered from papertrey the other night. I did only order 2 sets though. And some paper to make it $40 to get free shipping. I also went to Mike's and bought frames to be altered for gifts. Tomorrow is another day...
How is everyone doing? Are we all afraid to say? I placed an SU order on Saturday--one set of stamps, some new ink pads and same cardstock. I like to have the cardstock and ink, I had not quite navy ink and night of navy paper so I had to order to match. I also need more real red for my Christmas cards. I am not sure how much I spent. I am weak! I did start my Christmas shopping, including supplies for projects to alter.

I am doing extremely poorly, having ordered a scary amount of Magnolia stamps in the last week...
On the other hand, I have listed a load of my old stamps on ebay and will in the next week be listing more, so I guess it kind of balances out...hopefully! At least, that's what I tell myself!
I am hanging my head in shame because even though I started this whole thing, now everything has changed because I've realized I want to make this into more of a career than just a hobby. I just sent in the demo paperwork to SU yesterday and I'm going to start signing up for craft fairs, so obviously I haven't been able to follow through on my pledge! This thing just took on a life of its own and I felt powerless to stop it. I finally admitted this was what I really wanted to do and gave in. So wish me luck, and I hope you all will keep this thread going. I still think it's a worthy goal, and even as a demo I'm still planning to just buy what I need - it'll just all be through SU so I can meet the sales minimums! ;)

Lori,
Good for you! It is great that you are going to be a demo! Good luck with it all! YOu can still not spend too much on other craft supplies. I have not done well, I must admit. I hope to get lots of gifts made before Christmas. Toys R us was having a sale so I really started my shopping. Now to start the craft projects!

I just saw this and I went the last 2 months without buying ANYTHING!!!! My current pledge is no new PAPER patterned or cardstock unless I run out say of like white cardstock which I use like crazy for bases and wish RAK. After the new year I might start again with nothing new unless it's to refill something entirely used up like white cardstock or xyron refills (not just cause they are on sale).

ok, I'm dying to know, how did you go 2 months? Are we just talking stamping/scrapping stuff, craft stuff, etc.? I can't get through a week!
Ok I thought I would try this about 30 minutes ago. Then I moved on to check emails and guess what...no kidding spend $75.00 at Frugalities...I am hopeless.
I did okay today. I did go to a yard sale at the sb store and did not spend much. It was hard to avoid the stickers and paper for 20 for $1. I am making sb gifts for 3 nieces so a lot of the stuff will go to them. I bought a set of hero arts stamps for $2 and 2 small outliners stamps for $1 each. I did not let myself go to ac moore or michaels after this though so that was good!

I so need to try this...as it relates to stamping/paper crafting stuff. That would require me to stop 'blurfing', however, and I really don't know how I could ever do that. Reading blogs is my quickie escape from the kids during the day.
I have done much better lately about holding back on things I *must* have, but there's always room for improvement, right? I couldn't resist the free shipping on Bellas today or the sale at Lizzie Anne. I did carefully evaluate what I wanted to get, however. I started looking yesterday, slept on it, and waited until just now to finally place my orders...and ended up eliminating the "non-essentials."
I have a $25 budget. I spent $7 only in September and so far in October, $33 only because it is supplies to make christmas cards, projects etc. I do not count this. I do not need a single thing. I have enough stuff to last me till the Lord calls me home. I estimate that will be in about 2050.
LOL Joan. I have been on a no purchase budget for a long time - but then again, I've been on a no stamping schedule too..... hoping to change all of that with lots of supplies in the near future!
It is raining today-finally we need it. My dh is at work but I hope to use some of the stuff I have been buying. I have lots of gifts to make I hope to get some made and finish my Christmas cards too. Lets hope my sons cooperate and my much needed trip to the grocery store does not take too long!

I really need to join you and would love to.....but....I never join something I just KNOW I"m not going to stick to, so maybe in January if you're still needing support gals, I could try it then??? LOL Of course by then, I will be able to justify my hobby 100 more ways Good Luck..

I joined back in October and just wanted to report that i have failed miserably but am so happy with all my stuff. I guess it isnt time for me to stop shopping yet. *hugs*, Nancyruth
Oh how I have failed with this no shopping pledge in 08. First 18 days I spent $.02 (I don't count Xmas money I spent at Michaels -- went $.02 over). Then it is downhill from there with stamping classes at the LSS and with the new Stampin Up catalog and Sale-a-Bration. Oh well, I am enjoying my Score-Pal, Cuttlebug and embossing folders, Crop-a-dile and also Big Bite on order (and all the new stamps and supplies).

Best of luck to ya as a demo. I too have been thinking about signing just for my habit.
well at least i know i am not alone.... and i am not too ashamed, i really do love my hobby and can give a list of rationalizations but I will spare you(dont drink, dont smoke, kids are grown, etc.) coz you probably know them! So I hope noone is feeling badly about their success or failure with this experiment, it was a real eye opener for me and thanks chanteuse for starting the thread no matter what the outcome was. as my DS in California would say*no wrries*!!!

Not to be an enabler, BUT SU! has a great recruiting special right now, the best I've seen in the last three years. Regularly the kit is $199, right now through mid-March it's $159. AND you get an extra set of your choice from the catalog.
I've got to look at everything I'm buying. I haven't for WAY too long, and am paying the price for it. Fortunately, the local Joann's is small and unappealing. Nearest Michaels is 45 minutes away and AC Moore almost an hour. NO LSS any more; they've all succumbed to large on-line companies. I do like some on-line buying, but would much rather shop in person where I can see "real" colors, feel textures, etc. But as I just made $80 (SAB sales, I'm a mostly SU! demonstrator), I'm going to splurge and buy the Scor Pal. Then, other than materials I need for my monthy club, I'm done. It's not by choice, though! It's just with gas at $3.29 and groceries going through the roof, I don't have any choice right now. waaaahhhh.
How funny that I would happen on this thread tonight?!!? I am currently trying very hard to give up my craft purchases but it is soooo hard! I did manage to do it last year for Lent but once Easter passed I went overboard! It is nice to know that others are struggling as well and I am not alone. I wish us all luck!!
You know for once in my life I just totally love buying my stamp & scrapbooking stuff. I don't buy new clothes or jewelry hardly ever & I don't waste money on getting my nails done (I do them myself). So, I guess if u compared that to other folks who don't craft & spend on other stuff I am probably not as bad off I as think..
YES YES YES....no no no, I am too in love with all of this stampin stuff.. I can't join you, but I support you 100%. If you need any reminders, I can tape my Husband letting me have it for my spending.....:( that will remind you why your being so strong.
Good Luck
A no shopping pledge is, for me, like asking me to live on 1000 calories a day for a month. I could do it for a while, but then I would be eating 5000 to make up for it!
On the other hand, I have set a budget for myself. I've started by really trying to get a handle I what I have. Whew. I've been cleaning/reorganizing for about a month and really am appalled at my collection. At least it is now going into labeled drawers/containers.
I've also been selling a few things to try and get rid of what I don't use and get some $$$ to help towards my budget.
