Default Basic Black pad is ruined, help please

Hi Ladies -

I'm having a Stamp Camp tomorrow and I just used my Basic Black pad with watercolors. It smeared.

So, I thought maybe I just needed to let it dry a bit more, same thing. The only way I could make my sample was to color around it, trying not to get the blender pen on the black.

Now, I do have the black cartridge reinker. I supposed it possible that my 9 yo DD may have put some on it but she's never used them before so I'm not sure. (And I know if I ask her, she'll say no)

Any ideas or suggestions? I guess I'm going to have to borrow my demo's pad for tomorrow but I just can't imagine what happened.

Thank you so much - Linda T

Are you using a blender pen with the watercolors? If this is the case, something in the blender pen will cause the Basic Black to smear. Just warn your customers in advance & have them stay away from the edges.

I always emboss before coloring. It helps to keep the colors where they are supposed to be. If you don't have the craft pad, stamp in Versa Mark first, then in your classic pad.

Are you making sure to let the black thoroughly dry. If you stamp and then jump right into watercoloring, it can smear a bit. I ususally let it sit for a minute or two or I run a heat gun over it if I am going to watercolor.

It does sound like the pad might have been reinked with the old cartridge refill. I use my blender pens all the time with the B.Black pad and have never had it smear. Can you use a paper towel and get some of the ink out and reink it with the classic black refill. That might help a little. Just a suggestion. Good luck!!

Hi, That happened to me recently too!!!!!! I know my demonstrator has us use watercolor pencils with blender pens (coloring in an image stamped in black), and it never smeared at her place. But my brand new pad smeared. I think there is something wrong. Anyone else have the same problem.
