Ok, my family was out of town this past weekend so I was able to go to some garage sales. I love to go look for stamping supplies and this time it really paid off. Look at all of the fabulous stuff I found at one of the sales. I spent $35 total for 7 stamp sets plus all the misc items. What luck!!!
So, what great things have you found at garage sales?
Wow, Beth!! What a great haul!!
The most fun thing I found at a garage sale was an old original Barbie case which was filled with original clothes and accessories and the little sister Tutti for $5

I didn't find it, my SIL got it for me, but I have a Whiting and Davis metal mesh purse that looks like a miniature ice bag - in its original box - that she got for a quarter.

Thats awesome! I got a coach handbag for $4. It has the dust jacket and all the proper hangtags. I wish I had gotten there earlier, she said she had a lot more that her SIL sends her, but she hates purses.
Wow ~ Beth & Sleepy in Seattle ~ Beth, that was a great buy! You both have found great things! Two of my favorites ~ Stamping & Barbies! I haven't been to too many yard sales, but maybe I should start. One of my best friends loves them!

HOLY COW! I adore W&D....my dad worked for them a bazillion years ago.
I used to love going to Yard Sales, haven't been in years though! Hmmm, that might be a good *away* time for me to start partaking in! ;) Thanks for the inspiration!
My kids like to stamp with me in my basement but they make a mess. So last year, I found TWO old school-house desks (you know the metal bottoms, wooden chair and desk with hinged openings) for $5 each!!! I bought them up and now they use them to store their stamp/craft stuff. They love having their own writing area and the desk hides the mess. Plus, those desks are too cute!
I recently went to a sale and spent $12. I got six brand new packages of micro beads, 5 containers of embossing powder (3 were ranger fine detail powder), a glass mat and a blade runner. I also got a large tree stamp which came from joann's or ac moore one and is at least a $10 stamp. A friend got a brand new fastenator still in package for $10. She also got a set of anna griffin clear stamps which included a complete upper and lowercase alphabet as well as floral stamps for $5 and some huge punches for like $2 each. We were going to go back at the end of the sale and make an offer for anything else crafty related but she closed early. Oh well we still got some good deals.
A few years ago I found a waterford crystal perfume bottle for $1.00! What a deal.
I just love yard sales but, haven't been to any in a long time.
Have a great day!

Last Saturday, I bought the Longaberger Catalog basket w/sage liner & a protector for $10 This basket is $96 out of the current catalog. I couldn't believe it. I was so excited. I have my misc. stamping related catalogs in it + some odds & ends. It matches all the other Longaberger baskets I have my supplies in. Yippee!!

OMG!! You are so lucky!! I'm a Longabeger Consultant/Collector so I know you got an awesome deal!! My town is too small to find such good deals in, plus you have to have time to go to garage sales to find any deals!!
It was in my Association Garage Sale that I wasn't able to participate in because of ballgames. I had 45 minutes to run around this whole Subdivision. It was clear in back. I can't believe it was still there after an hour of being open. I guess it was meant to be!!!!
I almost never go to garage sales, but several years ago my brother and sister-in-law were at one near my house and called me over.
I walked in and found an espresso maker that had just been marked down to $10. My sister-in-law just drooled, especially when my brother said, I saw that and wondered if I should pick it up ...

I have also found some good Longaberger garage sale deals (I'm a consultant too) - most of the time they are gifts people are given and they have no idea that if they put them on ebay, they'd get so much $$!
I also thought of another great garage sale deal - one woman was getting out of selling Creative Memories and she had TONS of stuff - everything under $5! I got several 6x6 albums, stickers and templates and it all came to be about $20! I picked up duplicates of some good deals to give to friends. That was a fun day.
The best deal I ever got was a whack load of vintage fisher price toys with the house, hospital, 2 school houses, main city block and lots of the little accessories for $20. I listed it all on ebay and made a whack load of money!

I love Fisher Price! I have a collection of old FP on shelves in the family room. One of my girlfriends gave me a FP chime ball for christmas that she found at a sale.
I just had a garage sale a few weeks ago and my friend came in with a box that had an old Fischer Price hand held movie camera. It came with 5 or 6 movie cartridges. It has a handle on the side that makes the movie run. Does anyone else remember these? She got it from her sister and said she would sell it to me for $4! I remember one of my friends having one when I was a kid. But nobody else remembers these (I'm 33, so it was about 25-30 years ago). I thought that was a cool find.
My friend also told me that she had come from a garage sale across town that had Stampin Up Journalers. I raced across town and they weren't SU!!! I was not impressed. I had to drag my 2 and 3 year olds along (Not willingly). Aren't all markers the same, they look like yours (they were Le Plume). The girl needs to get her eyes checked!!!!!

My little brother had one of those! He'd be about your age . . . I remember he had a cartridge that was a ghosthunters thing - we'd click the handle one click forward to start watching the water bucket fall on Donald's head, and then one click back and the water would go back in the bucket and the bucket would go back up on the shelf.
They were supposed to be for little kids, but I was probably 13 or 14 and I was fascinated by it. Then again, part of the reason I so enjoyed babysitting for the neighbor kids was that it gave me the chance to play with the cool toys.
Got to tell ya about my big buy, I had a ladie call me up because her friend daughter die and she had bunch of stampin up stuff she want to sell, for $50.00 I bought, 8 old ink pads which four was still wraped up, chalks, 28 set of stamps foam and blocks, markers, paper, old books, stampin wheel handle, ink carg. for the wheel, embossing powder, flock powder, and some other things. I couldn't belive that all she wanted for it all, most of the stamp set were back in 1998-1999 book that was never cut or used.
Wow!!! Awesome deal! I have a friend that decided she didn't want to stamp anymore. She sold me a ton of stuff for $40. I went home and looked up everything in the catty and it came up to $150 ---that's my best deal so far.

When I was 10 yrs old (that was hum 30 yrs ago!) a neighbor had a yard sale and I bought an original Monoply board game-with wooden tokens instead of metal- it was in the original box with the directions- for 25 cents!! I still have the game and occasionally through the last 15 yrs I have let my girks play the game with us.....when they want to play by themselves they use their own currant set! I have gotten a Black & Decler scrubber that they no longer make for $2.00.....I haven't been to a yard sale in years - maybe I should start going again!! Sounds like there are great bargins out there!
I worry that when I die my husband will give away my stamping stuff for pennies because he doesn't know the worth of my collection... but it's better than telling him what I spend on my addiction
Last weekend someone advertised Stampin Up so I was there 5 minutes after it opened. Not much actual Stampin Up but there were all sorts of stamping/scrapbook supplies. Here is what I got for a whopping $12:
2 kaleidacolor spectrum pads
box FULL of cardstock (about a 4" stack)
dual tipped embossing writer
about 125 envelopes (high quality)
3 envelope folding templates and paper to go with them
a big clear storage envelope full of patterned paper pieces
My son was disappointed there were no toys but I was psyched by my deals.
Congrats, on your deals Beth!! My weekends have been too full this year so far to garage sale. My GD doesn't make it very easy on Fridays. Last year I got a really cute hinged egg (lemouge) for only $1. Gave it away as a gift and they recipient was thrilled.

I still have mine in the box with all the movie cartridges. I think I have 10 of them.
you scored big! My best find was thru a friend who called me (she was garage sale cruising) and I got this huge drawers on wheel thing and a huge box of stamps and supplies (including an embossing gun!) - great SU stamps too!
about 40 SU ink pads (old style) and 15 CTMH ink pads but still plenty of life in them. a brayer, glitter glue, embossing powders, and so much more!!!

I only wish I could get out to go do that now but since my kids have been playing sports.Every weekend is so busy now.between baseball and travel soccer team.I just on't get out to get any good deals.I highly doubt it if anyone aroundhere would even sell that at a garage sale. If anything it would go right on ebay.or to a friend.
I could go to a flee market but stampin ladies usually don't go there.

I love to go garage saling! Just a few weeks ago I had an awsome day hitting some sales...I got a few SU! sets including Dreams & Dragons for $20 at one, a Kitchen Aid mixer...like brand new, with all the attachments...$20! And an antique Singer Sewing machine in really nice shape for $35! My Mom has always wanted one, so I gave her that for Mother's Day and she was so happy/surprised that she cried! So, that would be the best bargain yet!

If y'all come to my place in a couple weeks, you can get good deals, too. I'm weeding through my stamping and scrapbooking stuff and having a rummage sale in a couple weeks.

Oh oh oh I remember this. I didn't know what the op was talking about until you described the movie with the bucket of water. Just about a month ago I was trying to explain this toy to DH and my kids but DH didn't remember this toy. I had this toy when I was about 4 or 5 and I can remember crawling up in bed with my mom and dad and projecting it up on the ceiling for us all to watch.

Last summer I was making a KILLING on SU! stamps at rummage sales. I spent $200 at one sale for a HUGE box filled with what must have been at least 40 sets, most of which were retired years ago. I turned around and sold them all on ebay (I kept maybe three of the sets) and nearly tripled my investment! I also managed to find almost an entire color family of the new style pads for $1 per pad at a sale (kept those!).
I get a lot of good deals at rummages, buy them all and then resell them for more on ebay! ;) It's good "fun" money.
I worry that when I die my husband will give away my stamping stuff for pennies because he doesn't know the worth of my collection... but it's better than telling him what I spend on my addiction
Too funny! I like to think my Husband has no idea and I'm sure he wouldn't want to deal with all of it anyways. My Mom was in my craft room last weekend looking around in amazement and I told her that if something happens to me she had better open a store on ebay! That's what I'll have to do with her quilting stuff if something happens to her.

Northern Wisconsin - where exactly? Maybe I can fit in a road trip!?!
Hi Beth!!
On my way out to run errands, I stopped off at a yard sale which was unusual for someone to have on a Friday. Besides some odds and ends for my garden, I bought: 2 new wheels, 1 wheel handle, 2 new cartridges and a brand new ink pad for $3!!!!! She apparently bought it from a party and never ever used it. I am going back tomorrow to see what else she dragged out...heehee!
I know this thread is a little *old* but I just had to share my best ever find and my recent *really good* find!!
I am a PEZ collector in addition to everything else I like to collect. At a community rummage a woman had a PEZ I had never seen before on her table for 10 cents. WEll, I HAD to have it but I only had a quarter or a nickel. So, instead of making change, she took my nickel and I got a new PEZ. I had it for years before I decided that I wanted to know what it was and maybe what it was worth. It turns out it is an original advertizing PEZ that (for you non-PEZ collectors) is worth about $1500!!!! (if I decide to sell it...)
My recent *really good* find was at another community rummage. A woman was selling some SU, and I got a brand new, unmounted So Very for $2!
Needless to say, I always check out community rummages!!
