How many people can they take in one session? Or will they expand so the same number of the two sessions (currently) will come to the one??? Can they accommodate that many people at once??? Or will it be more limited???
Well, the reason that convention is in Denver this year is that the Salt Palace is being renovated. I am sure it will be just fine. They wouldn't book there if it wouldn't be acceptable size.

Yup, I totally agree. If they're making it one session, they're planning for enough space for all the people expected. I will guess that it will sell out, but that most people who will want to go will be able to (kind of like this year).
I think it's a GREAT move, especially being an anniversary year. I'm tempted to figure out a way to make it, even though I've already accepted that I won't be able to go (baby will be just the wrong age!).

Oh how I wish I could have waited for this event before having to give up my Demonstratorship. I would have loved to give Shelli a huge hug for her fantastic 20 years. Now that's going to be one tear jearking convention if there ever was on!

Woohoo! That's GREAT news! I'll also be able to celebrate my 10-year anniversary while SU celebrates its 20th! Boy, they have come a LONG way since my first one in San Diego back in 1998.
We never heard about new products (and didn't demand to know either) until we received our new catalog AT convention. Those that weren't able to attend had to wait until sometime during convention around the MIDDLE of July (not BY the 1st of July or else!) There wasn't any emails going back and forth to update everyone of every waking minute at convention (just some lucky long-distance phone calls to friends). The anticipation of seeing the new catalog for the first time was a BIG thing back then. Oh, how I miss those days sometimes.
Maybe I should register now so I don't have the shock of getting online after work on the first day of registration and it's already sold out in 3 hours like what happened this year when I tried to register for 1st session!
I can't wait to go back to Salt Lake City. It should be quite a party!
Since there is only one session, maybe they will go back to giving us the new catty at Convention. I tink that was the BEST perk of attending. I guess I better start saving my $ now because airfare alone to SLC will probably be $500+. I will be celebrating 5 years with SU (actually, today is my 5 year anniversary) during the 20th anniversary.

Well since convention dates are July 30-Aug 2nd, I don't think you'd want to wait that long to get the new catty.

Oh man! That is exciting, but a little scary, too! Hotels are going to book up FAST. I just tried hotwire and they aren't even accepting searches that far out yet. I plan on having my hotel booked ASAP to beat the mad rush!
Does anyone know if booking that far out guarantees your room rate? The online booking services won't charge you extra later if the rates change? I've heard that some of the hotels figure out convention is coming and really jack up the price.....
booking this far out will guarantee you a room at the rate you book the day you book it. However, if there is a special convention rate you will not (normally) be entitled to that rate unless you book it however SU wants us to book it. i.e. if SU says you have to call this certain number or go to this certain website in order to get a negiotiated conference rate that is the only way to get the convention rate. Now sometimes convention rates are not better than what you could have got on your own, but usually a convention rate is a better rate. Also if you book now and a convention rate is offered at certain hotels and all you have to do is call the hotel directly and say you are coming in for the convention you can call the hotel and see if they will change your rate. Usually if you book thru hotels.com, orbitz and so on since they are third party the hotel won't change those rates because their hands are tied due to the contracts that have been signed. However, if you book directly online with the hotel website not using a third party they will almost always change your rate to the better rate.
Hope this helps, up until Sept. I was a travel agent for the past 14 years. I also worked for a hotel for a number of years and know we couldn't change the rates if you booked thru the online clearing houses. The reason for this is because the way they make their money is hotels.com may charge you $79 a night for the room but the hotel is only going to get $49/$59 from hotels.com. We couldn't change your rated because we didn't even take your money, hotels.com did. Kind of stunk when you wanted to do some customer service stuff, but our hands were tied.
Uggg....as a teacher, my contract starts August 1. Wonder if I can start a day or two late.....I would LOVE to go.
My contract starts the 30th of July. Poo, I really wanted to try and go next year! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to live vicariously through all the posts on SCS! Again!!

Computer's will jam with everyone registering at once! I can't wait to go! I've missed the past 2 years and I won't let this one go... my downline and I are already planning.
I agree that it should be in SLC next year for the 20th. I just wish it would be in different places every year. It helps the East/West Coasters with their airfare/travel when it is on their side of the continent and I like to visit different places. But, if it will keep the price of Convention constant, then that can't be all bad. I am packed and ready to leave today for Session 2. Woo Hoo!!
Meg
When do you usually register for convention and when is hotel information listed so you can get a hotel? I have never been to a convention but I am going to go to this one no matter what it takes.
I won't be able to attend convention next year either. Our school usually starts around Aug. 1st. I was looking forward to being able to go next year. Oh well.:(
Oh my goodness! I also debate going but as a hobby demo, I have a hard time justifying a trip for me. DH doesn't care but we are saving for a trip to Hawaii and Europe in the next 18 months, so I doubt I'll go, but it would be fun.

I was wondering the same thing. Does anybody know?
Yikes... If they are only doing 1 session, I'm glad they are... is there going to be enough hotel rooms.... I'm sure they have checked into it... but I need to be reassured... 20 years, got to love SU....
I actually live just north of SLC, so there's NO excuse for me....Well, I guess there IS that small technicality of getting signed back up as a demo again!
I'm so pumped to be there for the 20th--and now that it will all be one session, that's just icing on da cake! Yeah, baby!
I attended the last one session convention (Orlando) and it was crazy. There was 5000-6000 people there. There was ALWAYS a line for the bathroom. It was fun but you have to be able to handle being in that large a crowd for several days......

I do plan on attending, and will book a room ASAP........way before the registration date! Rooms can easily be cancelled if by chance you don't get in, or can't attend!!!
Sounds great, but sounds *late*! Not having convention samples until August?? Wow - that means that even convention-goers will have to really hit it hard to produce samples with new catty material.
Am *very* excited to see what the 20th Anniversary Convention will bring ~ the 15th in Las Vegas was fun. Too bad they aren't having their 20th in Vegas again...since that is where Shelly and her sister *started* Stampin' Up!.... ~ K

Registration for 2007 was on May 9....in previous years it was in April I believe. But now Convention is a little later than it used to be. This year I think the first session sold out the first day. I think my first Convention in Las Vegas was also a sell-out, but not the first day.
Those of you teachers (or parents with kids who go back to school at the beginning of August, like me) should e-mail SU and request that they move Convention up a few weeks. They may not be aware that parts of the country start school a lot earlier than others. It won't help for 2008, but may help for future years. I suppose if they had it in late June, they'd run into the same problem with teachers who were still in the classroom.
I too was in Orlando, and it's true...you do have to be able to handle crowds. It is still well worth it! I think one of the conventions before Orlando...in Las Vegas...there was 6,000-7,000 demos. (At least there was plenty of hotels!!!) WOW...20 years...I can't wait!

Yea! I just looked at the calendar and these Convention dates work our great for me. My real job (the one that supports my rubbah habit) is Payroll & Accounts Payable for local government. It's very hard for me to take time off at the end/beginning of every month, but it's going to work out GREAT in 2008!!! (plus payday is during Convention, Momento Mall here I come)
Yea me! And with all the "teacher" demo's that won't be able to attend because school is starting, I might actually be able to get a ticket before they sell out! whoo hooo!
Look out, Salt Lake City!

I think you would just have to be signed up and have your demo number by the date of registration. That's my opinion, I don't think I have ever heard of any time frame.
Wow, I just might get to go next year. Convention being later means it doesn't fall during our County Fair! It will also be my fifth year. Best start planning now!!!
