So I found a blender pen at Michaels to try for water coloring. Should I buy more for all the color familys or does the aquapainter work better? I don't have the wc crayons yet so I'm just using the stamp pad covers for now. What are your opinions on the 2 products?????

Blender pens are excellent for chalks/pastells because it sets them and you don't have to use a finish. The aquapainters are great for watercoloring. I don't have aquapainters now but used them with my demos watercolor crayons and I would definately get them once I get the crayons.

I think you can use either for watercoloring the ink from the top of the stamp pad. Blender pens have a finer point and maybe are for more detailed images... The water pens give you more of a watercolored effect. It depends on what you are looking for, which you prefer working with. And, as previously stated, the Blender pens are great with the chalk especially because it sets it.
I must be Blender pen challenged, because I constantly end up rubbing too hard and having the paper flake. so I love my Aqua painter, I never have the flaking problem with it.

Personally I like the blender pens, simply because I have more control. I am watercolor challenge so I tend to grab the blender pens for everything.
I too use the blender pens for everything, maybe it's just me but it seems that when I use the Aquapainter it's just too wet and my watercoloring looks a mess. The blender pens just work better for me, especially with the watercolor pencils. I haven't tried the Prisma pencils and gamsol yet, that will probably be a whole 'nother story!
I love my aqua pen but it is too wet, causes my cardstock to curl, blender pen is awesome. but can flake paper if you rub to hard or to much. if I had to choose...... agh.... it would be the blender pen.
Just from experience ... I bought a blender pen from Michaels and it was awful ... then I invested in the SU! ones and what a difference that made. So if you find you do not like the blender pen from Michaels, you might want to try the SU! ones. I couldnt do anything right with the Michaels one.
I like them both for different reasons, SU blender pens are the best, used others didn't like them as much. Agree with Taryn, better with chalks / pastels, however, for a different look, there is times that I just want to use the aquapainter.
No one has addressed this part of your question yet. I don't know about the Michael's blender pen, but with the SU ones, you don't need different ones. When you've finished using a color, just scribble on scratch paper until there's no color left. Sometimes the tip gets stained, but as long as you don't see any color when you're scribbling, it's fine.
I use both of them from SU. I love blender pens for my pencils and lid watercoloring. Then I recently broke down and got the aquapainters and I'm in love! I use them for my crayons and lid coloring. As stated above, for SU, you just scribble the color off and move to the next one. I have two packages of blender pens only because I lose them in the mess and get annoyed.
I haven't used my blender pens with my watercolor crayons yet, just the aquapainter. I also have watercolor pencils that I use with the blender pens. Thanks, now I have something new to try !
I used A dove blender for the pop pastels and had a awful time so i went to a party and ordered SU ones.I have warped my paper, you name it i have done it. Can't wait for my new ones.
I love the blender pens for watercoloring with the ink in the pad lids, and with the watercolor pencils. You really only need a light touch with them, and then the paper won't flake (I call it "shedding"!). Keep in mind though, the better quality paper you use (like SU's Ultra Smooth), the less shedding you'll have.
I have non-Su watercolor crayons, and like the aquapainters for that, but it's a much different look. Definatly get some watercolor paper and try it with that, much better result.
My coloring method of choice is Prismacolor Pencils and gamsol, and you use paper blending stumps. Love it!!! A tad expensive, but well worth the investment.

With the watercolor crayons, I much prefer the aquapainter. I had one long before I was a demo so maybe that's why I like it so much. I find that the watercoloring look was much more dramatic with the aquapainter vs the blender pens. Just remember to use a light touch and then if you need the color darker, layer on top of it. It's much easier to show dimension with the aquapainters as well. Have fun!!

I usually keep one with water and one with bleach. By the way, what are the blender pens used for?? Are those watercolor pencils worth the investment??

Be careful about storing bleach in them - they can explode. I've heard that bleach shouldn't be stored in anything transluscent (notice it always comes in a white bottle). You're better off to designate a pen for bleach, but refill it each time you use it.
I would have to agree with everyone on the Blender Pens. I tried some from AC Moore, and they were horrible. The first ones I ever tried were from SU! and the AC Moore couldn't compare. I LOVE the blenderpens, but like everyone said, you have to be very careful, or else the paper will flake. I do like the aqua painter, but since it is so watery, the finished color looks very clear. I like my images to be opaque when colored in HTH

I absolutely LOVE my WC pencils. IMO, they are TOTALLY worth it. I talked my best friend into buying them, and now, I think she uses them more than I do lol
