A couple of months ago I read somewhere that most TV scenes are filmed in shades of blue and orange. So I started looking. In almost every Seinfeld episode the characters are wearing some shade of blue or orange (including rust). Then I started seeing this combo all over TV !! There must be something about this particular combo that translates well on TV.
This got me to thinking.
I think 'm going to start a blue and orange period, like Picasso's blue period!!

Blue and orange... I love to stamp with those two colors!
They really look great together! Now, I'll have to start watching TV more for my color challenges!

Funny you should say this becuase I was reading something about this, and they way they shoot the 3 different CSI shows.
The Miami show and the New York CSI shows are shot in completely different color lens to reflect the theme of the show. Miami is shot in an orange cast to reflect the warmth of Miami and if you see the NY show it is shot with a more blue tone to reflect the coldness. I don't recall what they used for the original show, the vegas one. But I did notice the stark difference between the NY and Miami one.
I used to be an orange-color-hater. Dreaded halloween and seeing all that color everywhere. For some reason now that I have kids I am loving it now. Must be a chemical or hormonal thing, LOL. Or maybe age, I am not so rigid in my color loving! But orange and blue I agree are a wonderful combo! Never noticed the Seinfeld orange/blue thing but will loook now.

I love that they do that - it DOES really work to give a different feel to the shows.
I never noticed the blue/orange thing (but then I don't watch much TV!!) but now when I DO watch I'll be looking for it LOL!!
I can see that, as RED tends to "bleed" on tv. I know that especially on my older tv, if someone is wearing red, it's just a mess. I guess the orange records better. Blue is my favorite color, so I don't mind looking at it.
I am currently making swaps for Regional & am using Pumpkin Pie & Ballet Blue!

Okay - so how weird is this. As I'm reading this thread, I turn around to check out the TV and Alton Brown is wearing a blue shirt. And now he's got a character on there pretending to be selling nuts and that guy's got an orange shirt on.
I'll be on the lookout for blue and orange from now on!

Oprah has actually said that if you want to look good in her audience, that you need to wear blue because it's the best color to be wearing when your filmed. Not a lot of people know this, since about 1/3 of her audience is always in red.
It's funny your talking about blue and orange combinations because i just made a card using that combo and i'm not sure i'm liking it. It's posted in the gallery. Be nice people don't run it down too bad. lol
I love blue and orange...actually blue (ie. Briliiant Blue) and any fallish colors (rust, mustard, brown).
Here's a link to a blue/orange scrap page I did recently: http://www.ssreflections.com/designe...hallenge2.html
I originally started using blue and fall colors after seeing the color combo in some fiber.
TV, magazines, billboards, and ads are GREAT places to look for color combo ideas!

Well, living in Bronco country and being a major fan, I know about blue and orange! hehe. I did learn something really interesting about coloring, though. When you're shading, do you use a black or grey? I always did, but I've found out that it is much more realistic and visually appealing to use a complimentary for shade. For instance...if you're coloring a blue dress and want to shade a fold...use orange. If you're shading one side of a red apple, use green. You can't be overly liberal with the complimentary color, and you need to blend well but wow...it looks soooo good!
I happen to be watching Seinfeld right now. George is in an orange coat. Puddy's shirt is blue. Elaine's jacket is rust. The extra guy they are arguing with is in all blue. Jerry is in a dark gray/brown. I guess if the show is named after you then you don't have to conform to the orange/blue rule.
I was thinking more about this color combo and realised it is one of my favorites in nature. Grand Canyon, Zion, much of the canyon lands in Utah, etc. The earth is a rich rusty orange and there are beautiful blue skies, rivers or lakes. It's very stunning scenery.

Isn't that the truth!!!! I love our National Parks (although I haven't been to one in quite a few years).
I had heard the thing about Oprah and blue as well. However, I also had heard that when they want to film some kind of special effect, they use a blue background and a blue suit. I think it makes the actor invisible to the camera. If his face isn't blue, you will kind of see just a head. Has anyone heard this?
I will be keeping an eye out for blue and orange! I look terrible in orange. (I am a "winter" for people old enough to remember that craze.) I can, however, look good in blue. Now I just need tickets to Oprah!!!!!!
Blue and Orange are opposite of each other on the color wheel which makes them a "complementary" color combination. You get lots of impact and energy when using them together.
