Default Buy Black Paper!

I used to think of black just for Halloween. However, browsing the galleries I've noticed how fabulous a black card looks when a gorgeous element, like a shiny butterfly or flower is placed on top. Brayered glossy paper is awesome with a black border. Black and bold brights is also fabulous.

I took the plunge and bought a whole BIG package of black. I'm even thinking of using some for Christmas this year.

Oh I love Black! I have been using about 5-6 packages a year for the past couple years! Even just putting it in as a middle layer adds a lot of punch and intensifies the other colors that you have used.

I used Black a lot until about 1/2 a year ago. Now my main dark color is chocolate chip. I can't stop using it. I looked through the catalog trying to find a card made with black CS...I think there is only one in the Halloween section. It's crazy. Look through the samples. Everything is with brown!!!

Black rocks and.... it turns a beautiful color of tan when bleached!!!
Try it by embossing on black paper with black EP then coloring in the image with a q-tip of bleach.
FABULOUS! and only the SU paper does this. (try it with a leaf design like from Fantastic Foliage).

I so agree about the black-- I have really been noticing it on cards in the gallery lately and it looks great! I never think to use black. But I was intrigued by your comments about brown, Beate, so I went and got my new catalog, and you're right-- there's no black in it, just brown!! wow!! I hadn't even noticed! Thanks for making sure we're on the up & up, Beate!

An lbirus, thanks for the tip about embossing & bleaching on black- I'll have to try that!

I love the cards with black and pink. Looks really elegant. Thanks for the EP/bleach idea. Now I have to go buy some black EP!

I tried using the bleaching idea with a non-SU paper(bought at Micheals) & it wouldn't work - I eventually just set the paper in the bleach - & it's still BLACK - I had to laugh & when I showed it to my hubby, I said 'if only your black dockers would keep their color so well...'

If you use the black as the base, how do you do the inside, do you use plain computer paper?

I love to use black on my cards--really makes the colors pop! I'll have to try Beate's suggestion and use more brown, though. That never even occured to me. That's why I love this site so much--lots of new ideas every day!!!

I LOVE black! I buy so much of it, but only from SU. Try finding good black cardstock somewhere in a pack! It is next to impossible! They sell single sheets at the LSS, but not in packs! And the pack from the major craft stores looks more purple next to the SU paper. I think it is amazing the difference you notice once you start using SU cardstock!

Default Black Glossy Paper

It is available. Just type "black glossy paper" into Google. You will find a bunch of references. This one sells the paper.

http://gotastamp.com/browse.asp?cat=176&path=169,176

Most of the other sites refering to black glossy paper are actually stamp techniques or projects

This looks like messy FUN!... http://www.stampoasis.com/LunaClass2

Pearl Ex is one of my favourite things lately and it is wonderful on black! The colours really pop! We made notepad covers for a make & take project last night at my workshop and the black ones turned out the best. We used the hostess set - what's it called - level three with a butterfly, flower and snowflake - big and blocky??? Anyway, we used it - versamarked on the cardstock, then pearl exed - how simple and how beautiful! If ever I get around to posting things, I'll have to post one of those.

Went to an SCS get together and someone there had used their slit punch to make a holder for a lighter piece of CS for the inside of a dark card. That way your message is 'seeable'.
BRILLIANT!

For the Scrappers here, the CM metalic pens work great on Black or brown from SU for writing messages inside.

Black is so elegant. I recently saw the DD Grapevine set using black and another with Sahara Sand CS.. I bet they just look amazing together...sad right now, I am out of black and don't have any Sahara Sand yet :-(.

I love using black! I think almost any card looks better with a touch of it. If you need examples of how to incorporate it check out Kim Van De Riet's gallery I've been a fan of hers for a long time and have always noticed how she uses black in lots of her stuff - always beautifully!
