Does anyone have any Christmas gift ideas that I could make for 40 people that wouldn't cost much more than $2-3? My DH is an elementary principal and we like to give each of the teachers something but it gets expensive really fast! Any ideas??

Do you mean $2-3 per person? Or $2-3 for 40? It makes a difference!
There are lots of the little stamped things that could be cute - from simple like the Hot Chocolate holders where you pull up a ribbon and there is a packet of hot chocolate, to Post It note holders (either velcro shut ones or neat like this one that my Secret Sister made me that is an acrylic photo frame with a stamped insert and the pad of notes stuck onto the outside of it, tied with ribbon. You could do a set of thank you notes (5 per person? Could be under the price if they were simple w/o costly embellishments. Would have to make about 200 of them) then say something like "We really want to say 'thank you' to you because of how much we appreciate you and want you to pass it on". That might be generic enough for male & female, too. Or, an embossed vellum candle "boat" that goes around a votive in a glass cup from the dollar store can be really elegant looking. I just did one last night and everyone was impressed. Or, some kind of picture frame - stamped & embellished cardstock with magnet on back for file cabinet or fridge, or an inexpensive wooden frame from the store that is decorated up.
Those are the ideas that I could come up with on the fly this morning! Hope they helped!!

My SU consultant came up with a gorgeous idea. She cut the post holes off a 6x6 page protector, mounted it on red paper with a flap over the top, and filled it with stamped gift tags!
My sister (or should I say "I") made for the ladies that she works with for Thanksgiving ... pocket cards and she will put in sandwich bags with nuts or candy.
The cards are 7" x 11" ... folded in half. Turn the card so that the fold is at the top.
Make a pocket by folding in a "V" shape. Punch a hole in each side of the pocket and tie with ribbon.
If these instructions are unclear, search in "quick cards" forum and you will see a pocket fold card. These are just bigger than the normal size card so that something can be put in the pocket.
The tile coasters are pretty cheap - a set of four comes out to be between $2.50 and $3. Actually, no, on second thought - that would be REALLY heavy for your poor DH to carry in to work! He's need to take about 10 trips!

Personally I was thinking a little memo cube would be cute. You could do fishing or something like that for the men in the group and flowers or whatever you choose for the ladies.
Good luck...I know you'll do great! And, don't forget to post what you come up with!

I made some of the post-it note covers & some notebooks over the week-end. So quick & easy, but very useful.
I like the the idea for tags, I'm going to try that.
or you can make a small bouquet of flower pens (hobby lobby and micheals have floral on sale all the time and I have found a cute little bouquet at the dollar store once) Make 3 or 5 of them and tie themwith a bow...or if you have extra $ put them in a small pot or metal bucket....

My thoughts:
*stamping on candles
*vellum surround for a votive holder
*candle decorated around the outside with stamped images and fibres and stuff
*treat bags
*a mug with hot chocolate in it
*decorated post it notes
*decorated note pads
*small 1X1 tiles decorated with their name spelled out on several tiles, attached to a VERY strong magnet
What about homemade fudge? I made this last year (I used the recipe on the Eagle Brand website, but I added chopped up candy canes to it - super easy) and then packaged it in stamped on Glassine bags. Regular and craft ink both worked on these bags, they just need to dry overnight.
Do you have a local coffee roaster? Maybe you can get them to make up a blend just for you and name it after you. ; ) Often, if you buy more than 5lbs in these places you can get a great deal. Then you can give out about 1/4lb per person. I am pretty sure that you can find small coffee-bags somewhere online.

I think stamped candles would be great. You can buy nice ones at the Dollar Store. Then just buy a pack of tissue paper. That would make it pretty cheap. If you have a package of the large celophane bags, you could put each one in one with a stamped topper or just a piece of ribbon. If you don't want to use all your SU ribbon, you could even find ribbon on sale somewhere for cheap, I'm sure. Good luck. That's a pretty ambitious undertaking.
I'm in the same boat--my DH is principal of a m.s.
One thing I've learned over the years is that anything edible covers all the bases! Beautiful tho they are, male teachers aren't exactly into candles . . . UKWIM? ;)
Here's a wonderful recipe and it's easy to make a lot of:
White Chocolate Popcorn:
Pop 2 bags of regular microwave popcorn (not the "butter loaded kind"; it's just too much buttah, but a little is good, LOL!)
Melt 1 bag of melting wafers/candy melts according to package directions (these come in a wide variety of colors in the Wilton baking aisle at Michael's, or you can buy them online in bulk, if you google and find a source)
Mix the popcorn and the melted wafers in a BIG container (like a big turkey roasting pan--yes, you need a BIG container to do this).
When all the popcorn is evenly coated, spread it out on wax paper to cool and harden.
I like to make a batch in red, then a batch in green, and when hardened, I mix the 2 colors together.
Package the pretty popcorn in cellophane bags, with a cute hand-stamped cardstock header. Stampin' Up! carries FDA approved cellophane bags in a variety of sizes, gaaaaaw-jus holiday stamps, card stock and inks that coordinate together, and lovely ribbon--contact your demonstrator! (giggle! Boy, I know that sounds like an ad, but my point is that you really can get everything you need to package them from your SU! demonstrator)
It is probably less than $2 per gift, and exceedingly popular!

Another gift idea is those glittered Christmas balls. You can get clear glass Christmas balls at Michaels for less than a $1 each (they come in packs of 6). Rinse them with water, add about 20 drops of reinker and swish around. Let drain, but do not let dry. Add a tsp of glitter (like dazzling diamonds) and shake immediately. The result is so pretty. Tie a nice ribbon on the top of the Christmas ball. There's some in the gallery under Christmas Ornaments if you want a picture of them.
The card explositions or explosition cards.....what ever there called, are a neat idea. I made a few over the weekend and filled them up with Chocolate Kisses. They look nice with wide ribbon and a tag.
