my sisters stamping area is in her unfinished basement and it gets super cold down there! i bring along my fuzzy slippers, a big mug of hot cocoa and have finally talked her into bringing down a small space heater that she had sitting upstairs collecting dust! your space looks cozy :(
Any tips on keeping feet warm in a basement?:confused:
heather what about a small ele heater. just turn it on while you are down there. and off when you leave.

I used to use a space heater, but as much as I'm down there it wasn't economically friendly. I now keep a sweatshirt and a pair of slippers in my stamping room.

I am in our upstairs and it is always really cold in the winter. I have a little space heater I use (the dogs love it too, they lay by it) and I also have fuzzy slippers and often wear a sweater or something too.

I love those little small square heaters (they are really little) I put them on the floor and put my feet right in front of it. Feels so nice and warm!

I have a stamping area in my basement and my feet get cold too. I have a piece of carpet and a smal Fan force heater. The heater has to setting which I like.
Our basement is totally unfinished, With Concret wall. I do have some Glass block window with smal window to open in the summer.
In the summer I can use the fan setting for helping keep it cool too.
So maybe just getting a Rug on the floor might help you. and I'm sure you can find Small Heater Fan's on sale somewhere.
I have 2 ideas. I use both in a way.
1. I have a tiny space heater that blows warm air pointed right at my feet.
2. My dog has a heated pad she lays on outside on cold days. These are tough rubber and come in different sizes. They are available at online vet supply places and put out mild heat.

1) Train your cat or dog to sleep ON your feet while you are stamping (hey, if they can do it at night in bed, why not in the basement while stamping).
2) As another poster mentioned, put down a small throw rug or other kind of rug right under where you work.
3) At many sporting goods stores (and our Walmart) they sell handwarmers for hunters. They are about the size of a deck of cards, only flat. You smack 'em and it activates the heat. You could put these between your feet (with socks on) and your slippers. I think it is not advised to have these right next to bare skin.
4) If you don't want to go the chemical route, you could probably use one of those flannel bags filled with rice that you heat in the microwave and wrap around your neck--only wrap them around your feet.
Friends are like the walls of a house. Sometimes they hold you up, sometimes you lean on them. But sometimes, it's enough to know they're just standing by.
Here is another vote for the fleece lined crocs! Yes, they are ugly, but they are very comfortable and extremely warm. This year was the first year ever that my feet were warm throughout all of our Girl Scout cookie sales. In fact, if I have on good socks with my lined crocs my feet get so warm I have to take them off.
Polar fleece socks are great. You would be surprised at how well plastic bags (produce size) over your feet and then socks keep your feet warm.
If you slather on some lotion before the produce bags, your feet get a nice moisturizer treatment at the same time - I have the ugliest/driest feet ever and when I do this it helps a lot, and my feet are always very toasty
1. Already have carpet. I think it great but when standing for long periods like today. Even with my rubber soled slippers it didn't keep the cold out.
2. I have a space heater. I think though instead of it being on a table top I'll try moving it to the floor.
3. Crocs, my family thinks they looks silly. But then if I only were them downstairs who cares.
4. Might have to look into the heated floor mat. Only problem is I work at an L shaped area and move around alot.
5. Pagemaster, I'd need your DH to install it for me.
6. My DH is now talking about installing a hotwater heater off our existing system just for my area. I think he got the message tonight when I asked him to rub my cold feet.;) ;)

I have a small electric heater by my legs cause mine freeze too which helps alot.... I couldn't be without my little heater and my slippers of course LOL
Would a regular heating pad work? You could just lay it at your feet on a rug, and put your sock or slippered feet on it. Then get toasty warm, just don't forget to turn it off.
I have cold feet too and I love sweater socks. I have also been known tolay a heating pad on the floor and turn it on and rest my feet on it. Also I have made microwaveable heating packs with flax seed. It's a little more comfy than rice. Maybe make a larger one and place it inside a doubled up blanket and slip your feet inside.
My husband bought me a pair of slippers that had zippers on the soles which came with these flax seed fabric covered packages that you put in the microwave. They were da bomb... I felt like I was at the spa.

yes, to the other ideas the other ladies have suggested.... Here's a quick cheap idea while you are waiting for the hubby to do the work.... old camping trick.....if you keep the head warm, the feet will be too....! put on a fleece or wool hat on our head when your downstairs in the winter. ( I know now you'll have hat hair but your will be toastie!):rolleyes:
Another suggestion is to insulate the floor a bit more where you stand and sit.....you need a little more than just the rug or carpet under your feet. If you put a layer of plywood / and that foam liner under the carpet you'll help offset the coldness from transferring right to your feet. sorta like socks n'crocks for your feet and for your floor.
Have you seen those rubber mats that the cashiers stand on at the grocery store? and then put the carpet on top of that . Or the other way around. See what works. Attach it or secure it so you won't be tripping over it. It'll be so much softer and warmer on your feet if you like to stand and stamp. HTH!
My scrap room is a sun room that the previous owner built on to the house. The floor is actually the wood deck over the lawn that they threw some linoleum on. We've got 2 rugs (looking for someone who's replacing carpet to grab the pad) and then a throw rub under my feet. I have a space heater in the winter pointed at my tootsies and hubby bought me some nice socks in the hunting dept. for Christmas. They work nice, sometimes too nice.
I know the little space heater is not that economical, but hey ~ a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to stamp!

That's what I use. Those things can put out some toasty warmth pretty quickly, too. And they don't cost much.
I have a heated ergonomic foot rest in our home office. Oooooh.. It is SO nice to have toasty feet! It has an on/off switch so you don't have to have the heat on all the time. I think it has a high and low switch too.

Something similar I learned in Marching Band - put a very light coating of Vaseline Jelly on your feet, then cotton sox, then a plastic wrap or bag. Amazing warmth!

I vote with the folks who've suggested heated mats. They use very little electricity, are very safe, and it's a constant, gentle heat. Get more than one if you need to for your L-shaped work are.
Boy, I couldn't craft if I was cold. It would kill the creativity for sure because I'd be thinking all the time about how COLD I am!

My space is also cold. Aside from dressing warm & occasionally turning on the small heater ( Idon't like the smell), I have a 1-2 inch foam cushion on the floor. I sit with my feet on the cushion. Keeps my feet toasty! You wouldn't think it would help as much as it does. it's about 1 1/2 feet by 1 1/2 feet square.
