Only Mauve Mist, Mint Melody, and Marvelous Magenta are actually being retired. However, the others are changing hues. ie: Forest Foliage will become Handsome Hunter - a more natural dark green as opposed to a blue toned dark green. Hope that helps.
NEW FAMILY OF COLORS AND COLOR MOVES:
Stampin' UP! will introduce a new Family of colors called Neutrals.
Neutrals will include:
Sahara Sand (new color)
Basic Brown
Going Grey (moved from Earth Elements)
Basic Black (moved from Earth Elements)
Whisper White (formerly named White)
Very Vanilla (formerly named Vanilla)
Not Quite Nave has moved from Rich Regals to Earth Elements.
NEW COLORS
The following new colors will be available in July:
Pixie Pink (Bold Brights). Replaces Positively Pink to provide a
greater range of pink.
Handsome Hunter (Rich Regals). Replaces Forest Foliage to provide a
more natural color with less blue.
Always Artichoke (Rich Regals). A new color to provide a greater
range of green.
So Saffron (Rich Regals). Adds a new shade of yellow.
Regal Rose (Rich Regals). Replaces Rose Romance to expand the range
of pink.
Bravo Burgundy (Rich Regals). Replaces Baroque Burgundy with less
red.
Elegant Eggplant (Rich Regals). Replaces Eggplant Envy to provide a
richer violet shade.
Pumpkin Pie (Earth Elements). Provides an additional shade of
orange.
Apricot Appeal (Soft Subtles). Provides an additional shade of
orange.
Bashful Blue (Soft Subtles). Replaces Bliss Blue with a softer,
lighter shade of blue.
Sahara Sand (Neutrals). Saraha Sand looks nice layered with many
different colors. It looks different with each color you layer it with
because it tends to reflect color.
I am so frustrated over this and I haven't even seen the new colors yet. I just completed buying the spots a few months back and was proud of myself. Now SU comes along and mixes it all up again. I don't know how I can justify buying new spots when I have some of them already. Does anyone else see this as a problem?
If you are not a demo then you won't have to replace the spots that are changing hues. When your spots that are changing hues run out of ink you can re-ink them with the new colors and print a label for the spot indicating the new color. There will only be 4 new colors that are brand new -- So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie, Apricot Appeal and Always Artichoke. Pick those up at a later date.
wlambert,
I went to our monthly stamp club today and our demo showed us the new colors. They really are wonderful! I was glad to see that I won't necessarily have to replace ink colors for them to "work" with the replacement. I felt a little frustrated over the changes, too, until I saw them. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised, and probably a bit relieved when you do see them. Ask your demo to show you the colors in her demo magazine.

Why did she make things? Well, she enjoyed it, of course; it also somehow helped her remember who she was and where she came from.
When you get the Summer mini Catty you will get to see the new colors and the new color family arrangements. It really is a good move. I am just glad that the company gave us such a big warning period so that we could plan our purchases wisely.
The other thing I read here is that in the 2005-2006 catalog there will be a special set of pastels, ink spots and a cardstock sampler with the new and changed colors. This will address just the situation you describe.
Thank you ladies for letting me know more about the new colors. I feel a little bit better now that I know that you can see the new colors before the old ones go away.
