Default Craft Fair Question

I am going to be selling some of my stamped items at a craft fair in December. Of course I will be selling cards too. So, that leads me to my question: I have TONS of cards/cardfronts I have received in swaps - too many in fact. Some came from online swaps and some from swaps with my upline's group. Would it be okay to sell those cards at the craft fair? Or would that be crossing a line? I am looking for opinions and will do what the majority suggests. Thanks for taking the time!

I think to make money off of someone else's work is not okay without their permission. Please check this thread:

I'm sure any cards you send there will earn you much more than selling them would - not in a monetary sense, of course.

I personally think it is ok! You participated in a swap, you spent your time and money on making your cards/card fronts. In return, you received cards/card fronts. They are your property to do with what you want. Maybe you could sale them as "bargin" cards, just get enough to cover the cost of making them. That way you are not "making money". I personally would just use the ones that are made from retired sets. Or you could donate them to senior centers, card ministries, retirement homes, etc.

My personal opinion is Why would you want to put your name on someone elses work. I think it is wrong to do that unless you have asked that person to use their card.. I'm going to be selling cards my sister made for me at my bazaar but I bought the paper and the tape and all the embellishments. and she knows thats what they are for. just my 2 cents worth.

personally, I think that once they are traded, they are yours to do as you like. you can do whatever you like with them. as long as you put the SU copyright notice on it, of course.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm still looking for more opinions on this to help me in deciding ... But just to clarify - I will not be putting my name on the cards that I did not personally make. Those cards that have been labeled will keep their original labels, and those that aren't will just be stamped with the generic handmade (angel policy) stamp. Does this change your opinion any? Just curious. Thanks again for responding. I look forward to hearing more opinions.

If they were mine, I really wouldn't care. Once I swap something, it's gone. Now if someone was to sell the idea of the card or sell it individually on ebay, that would bug me.

What I have done with cards that I've recieved in swaps and don't really want is to donate them to organizations like Chemo Angels or send them to the troops. If it's just a front I do make them into full cards, and include an envelope, but I don't put any names on them. I don't think I could sell them myself, although if I was buying a pack of cards from someone I didn't know, it really wouldn't matter to me.
Just my $.02 worth.

It would bother me if someone sold my work without my knowledge...and until I read this, it didn't occur to me that someone would.
When I've swapped, I figure that people are using my work to demo an SU! set, as an inspiration for a project, CASE-ing it to give to others, or giving it away, etc... All of that is okay with me.
I would not feel right about making a profit off another crafter's work without their knowledge. Maybe it's because I've run a craft biz before, and I put so much of myself into my stamping?
But, that's just my 2¢...

IMHO, it would be fine for you to sell cards that you received in swaps. As someone else pointed out, you also spent time and money on the card(s) you sent in on those swaps. It would be dishonest to put your name on them, but you've already indicated that you will not do that. Something else to consider is that many swaps are card fronts, so you may have to turn them into "real" cards. I don't feel that you are trying to dishonestly "gain" from someone else's work . . . you're just trying to make a little money from this stamping hobby of ours by using what you have. Can't blame you for that! Good luck at the craft fair!

If someone gave something to you that you didn't want, would you have to ask their permission to sell it at a flea market/sale? Would they expect for you to give them the money or notify them if they had made the item? If you opted to donate the card(s) to charity, who's to say that every one of them would be wanted and used? If you sell them, you know that the person buying them really wants them! If you traded for them, they belong to you without condition. After your attempt at selling them, I think it's a great idea to donate those that are left. And I think it's honest and a nice idea to give the artist credit for her work. I hope that you have a fun a profitable time at the fair!

I personally, could not (moral reasons) and would not sell any swaps I would receive.

I'd compare this to selling Oreo cookies at a school bake sale.

That being said, I personally would not care if someone sold a swap of mine or a RAK that I sent them so they could buy more stamps. But someone else might feel differently.

I like the idea of making them into cards & donating them to the troops!
