I am planning on becoming a demo in August upon the advice of my own demo, and she seems to think that there will be some sort of incentive for people who sign up in the month of August. I guess it has been that way in the past. Just curious if anyone knows anything about this. I am dying to join up and excited to get on my way!
As well, I'm assuming that once I become a demo, there will be some products that I could purchase that are not offered in the regular catty. I was wondering if there is some sort of storage bag on wheels that can be purchased. I was in Michaels today checking out some things and I noticed that they really don't have any storage systems that are geared toward stampers (they are more for scrappers). I bought a luggage rack to stack my containers on, but it seems a little awkward. even with the bungy (sp?) cord that it comes with.
First of all, Congrats!! if you should sign up...I'll bet you'd have a blast! SU has had demo sign up specials in the past; there's no guarantee though when or if the next one will be.
SU did "accidentally" mention something about a "kit special" happening in August, but kit could refer to other things than the demo kit....scrapping kits, book kits, HodgePodge kit, etc.
As for other things demos can purchase (or earn) I can't think of a rolling tote like you're describing. At least not currently. There are tote "bags", but those are more like, well, tote bags, lol, not big storage/transporting units like cropper hoppers. This is not to say I couldn't be wrong, however....I haven't really tried to look for one like you are describing. I just haven't seen anything like that...
I am doing the same thing, waiting on that special to be announced, waiting to see if it is a demo kit special.
My demo/upline said the August Stampin Success (demo magazine) should come to her around 7/15 and the special will be announced in there...so if anyone gets their Stampin Success sooner, I'm begging you, PLEASE post the big August kit special.
If I hear sooner, I'll let you know.
But, at the very least, we'll have to wait until Friday, not 8/1...
I will bet that it WON'T be the starter kit.... just mainly because it was just on sale this year and am pretty sure that they won't put it on sale again.. It has to be some of the other "kits" they have in the catty.

I'm waiting, too, just to be sure that I don't regret signing up in July. Well, the SS will be online on 7/15, so we'll all know then (or at least the SUDs will share with the rest of us, right?). ;)
Let's hope so! I am just ITCHING to get started. I've spent the afternoon stamping and folding legal-size file folders into pocketed folders. I'm hoping to use them for the parties I do. My demo made some for her parties and I thought it was such a nice touch (you can put order forms, idea sheets, a thank you card, etc. into them). I also put on some other embellishments to show off some of the SU products (crimper, eyelets, brads, brayer, etc.) I just hope that no one walks away with them as they took me so long to do!!! Oh well - good advertising, right?
Here's another question - is it okay to make up business cards ahead of time, or do I have to wait until I'm a demo? I was thinking that the SU logo probably has to be on there somewhere, and I don't have access to it.
Thanks for all of the great info and ideas, everyone!

From what I understand SU provides you with business cards that they prefer their demos to use. I don't know if they come in the demo kit but I know that they are available to demos as a "supply" order.
SU! does not "provide" business cards. If we want to use the SU! logo, we order the cards from their approved business card vendors. Technically, you can't have a business card that uses the name Stampin' Up! (as in Stampin' Up! Independent Demonstrator) unless you order from the approved vendor.
I haven't ordered any cards in a while so I can't tell you how much they are, but it is worth it to use the approved SU! cards. You track your business expenses and this is a deductible expense for tax purposes.

I was thinking about signing up as a demonstrator too and I'm so glad I read this thread! Now I'll wait to see what this special is.
For those of you who are demonstrators, how do you like it? Have you ever had a really bad party? How good are your best parties? How bad are your worst parties? I want to know every juicy detail about being a demonstrator. I love stamping, so I would be doing this to feed my habit, but I'm a little apprehensive.
Actually, SU does allow demos to make their own business cards referring to themselves as "Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrators." HOWEVER, we cannot use the logo on our cards. Only B2Direct and Town & Country, SU's printing business partners, are allowed to print material with the logo. I know lots of demos actually prefer to do that, and decorate their cards individually as the mood strikes them!
yes I make my own business cards except I can't put the logo on them. I didn't want to order any until we move later this summer because I don't want the wrong address on them!! I attach a magnetic piece on the back of mine so everyone can put them up on their refridgerators when they take it home
In case you're looking for a thinner magnet, Xyron makes a really thin magnetic tape that comes in a tape-like dispenser. I was given a roll from a local educational supply company to try out, and I loved it so much I used the whole roll for classroom things. Now I'm kicking myself that I didn't save some, as I can't seem to buy it anywhere in Canada yet. I'm sure it's probably available in the U.S. though!
whoooo hooo SU did do a special going on now (not a sale on the kit).. YOU WILL GET AN ENTIRE COLOR FAMILY OF INK PADS when you sign up!!! Here is the deal!!
Promotion Details:
This is a US only promotion and is not available in Canada.
All new recruits who join between July 15, 2005, and August 31, 2005, will receive one free color family set (12 pads) of Classic Stampin Pads.
All paperwork must be received at the Stampin Up! Home Office before 5:00 PM (MT) on August 31, 2005, in order to be eligible.
New recruits whose paperwork was received before July 15, 2005, are not eligible.
New recruits can choose which color family they would like to receive by writing the color family name at the top of their Starter Kit Order Form. Those who do not write a color family name on their form will receive the Bold Brights color family by default.
The retail price of a color family of twelve Classic Stampin Pads is $54.95.
The cost of the starter kit will remain $199.
Okay - so that was the biggest let down EVER! I read JustMelissa's post about the offer on another thread, got SOOOOOOOO excited and then I read this one - not available in Canada?!?!?!?! Are you kidding me! Well, the best I can do is hope that there still is some sort of offer up here! :(
yup so it's a color family of ink pads plus the 5 you usually get. To bad none of my customers want to sign up to be demos :( So depressing when you have nobody to take SU up on these great deals.. my customers are all happy with just being customers.. lol
I just looked at the SU! website and the special they are having is when you sign up to become a demo you get 12 free ink pads, also there is changes to what stamps are in the kit. 12 free ink pads ends up being 54.95 so that is a really good idea. I was very forunate to hook up with a demo who was retiring and bougth some of her current things so I did have a little bit extra when I started but if you don't have a bunch to start with this is a good deal. Hope it helps.

I know that you are dissapointed that the special for the free ink pads upon signing up only in the US but think of it this way....sign up now as a demo and host a party yourself as a kick off then not only will you get the income for being a demo but you will also get all of the hostess benefits including the ink pads. In fact, in Canada we can potentially even have a chance to earn more than one colour set. It really is a great deal and I KNOW you can do it!!! Siging up sooner than later would be good for you so that you can fully take advantage of this since it ends August 31st.
