You can get the mat pack w/ or w/out the tool kit. I got mine without because I had most of the tools separately. I really like it for paper piercing and faux stitching and use it all the time. If you like those techniques, it is a fun tool to have. I am sure there are other uses but that is what I use mine for the most.

i love my mat pack! i use it for faux stitching and paper piercing too... but i love it for setting eyelets. i am very challenged when it comes to setting any embellishment (brads, eyelets, snaps) in straight line and this is perfect for that!

I think they are both great to have. However, being on a budget, I just use plastic canvas (cut to the size of a card) to do my paper piercing and punch holes for brads and eyelets. It was only about 30 cents at Walmart! I got the tinier holes, rather than the standard ones.

I don't know what a mat pack is. I kinda got a visual from what ya'll are describing its used for. But I just had to laugh because whenever I see something I may want, I ask my hb the same thing. "Honey, do I need that?" He rolls his eyes at me everytime. I always tell him "One day they're not going to roll back and you'll be looking at the inside of your head forever!" Then I can buy whatever I want because I'll NEED it ALL and he can't see what it is.

I love my mat pack too! You get three small mats included...one has different sized holes in it that you can use for paper piercing, another is just foam so you have something underneath your cardstock when you're piercing it, and the last is a hard plastic with a grid on it. I use it when I'm setting my eyelets. They're really handy, especially if you like to paper pierce!

It's a "must have" for faux stitching.
