Well, if I even had that much money to spend at one time on scrap and stamp stuff, I sure would faint! So I can't even fathom buying it from one person, let alone having the money to do that! I'm jeolous!
Heck no, I wouldn't do that! At least not all from one person, all at once ~ and especially not on E-Bay. Of course I already have too much stuff but still, nope...I wouldn't do that!
i wouldn't either.. unless i was splitting it with lilke 5 different people.. because really, do you always want EVERYTHING listed.. i usually want one thing maybe two or three..

I saw a listing on Craigs list locally here, someone was selling about 4,000 stamps, wanted $2,500 for them, in this economy! I know it would be more work for the seller, but grouping them and selling them for under 100 makes more sense.

Definately not! I'd only end up putting most of it back on ebay!
I wonder if that's not what the original seller expects...a buyer who expects to turn a profit by breaking up the lot into smaller units and selling in the bay.
Anyone who plans on using the stuff and has that much money probably won't buy that way...they'll want new stuff, LOL! I sure would.
I don't think I would unless, of course, I was going to break it all apart and resell it on eBay - who has the time for that, haha. If I had an extra $1200 I'd watch for some great sales and buy what I want - brand new!
nope, not unless I get to touch and feel EVERYthing! Years ago when I first started stamping I got a nice bonus and I bought $800 worth of SU! at one shot. The demo was way happy and I was in heaven as I finally had some decent things to play with. But now that I know more, I want to see it for that kind of $$$ - you might get $500 of good stuff and $1000 of junk.
I don't know if the person has a buyer, but this has happened a few times when I browse Craigslist. I see something I'd like, maybe even say I want to see ALL of her stamps, and the person responds, "I'm selling it as a lot."
I'm used to small lots, but not $1,200 lots -- full of paper, organizers, stamps, etc. Often, it doesn't even look to me that it's enough stuff to really turn a profit.
When I was ill I was thinking of selling every thing, and I was thinking to sell the whole lot for 1000 my self. What would that include? every thing from stamps to cuttle bug and folders, nesties, papers (still in packages) and the lists goes on and on. You can not buy the stamps for less, let alone all the other things sold in a bulk, I have friends who have told me they have bought/paid a thousand and ended up with thousands of dollars worth of beautiful stamping and scrapping stuff.

could be repeats of what you already have, or it could be supplies from ten years ago.. vellum or mulberry paper, anyone? lol the shape boss, link to link system, decorative scissors.. i could go on. i have my share of white elephants already... maybe someone passed away and the relatives are trying to get rid of it..
Like someone else said a reseller might. I know I have so much stuff, that I probably have a lot of what is in the listing. Why would I want duplicates?
I guess I you were just starting out and knew the seller, it would be a great way to start in the hobby. I certainly wasn't that lucky.

Why are vellum, mulberry paper, decorative scissors, etc "white elephants"? Is it impossible for you to make a pretty card or scrapbook page with them? I like my shapeboss- it does very nice embossing. My students at school do lovely work with all kinds of "outdated" supplies that are donated to them. And, the people receiving the cards don't care whether they are "the latest thing"- they just care that someone made something beautiful for them.
With the current economy, maybe we should all be taking a second look at the "white elephants".

I think what she means is that trying to clear out one's entire inventory at once would be difficult because most people who have been crafting for a while would already have enough vellum, mulberry paper, deco scissors etc., and either they still have them or have already passed them on to others.
A new person might be interested in such a lot, but typically when something is new, the person wouldn't be willing to invest $1,200 at once.
Jennifer McGuire does really cute things with vellum. And we all know that deco scissors can produce very cute results.
I buy large lots on Craiglist...I have done a couple now. Once last spring I got a set of "Stamping Stuff" for $250, and resold all the sets and albums (all old SU and Creative Memories) and my total profit was $800 after fees, etc.
Not bad for an hour of driving, a day of listing, and a day of packing and shipping.
I have purchased larger lots, and resold, but I spend about a week and end up making about the same amount ($800-$1000). I will only buy what I know I will at least double my money on with ebay fees. A lot of people would rather take half of what they could get, and be done with it all in one shot...so everyone is happy in the end.
It helps to know the value of everything...if someone has a big list, I quickly add up an estimate on what it would sell for, subtract 20% and then divide in half. That is the MOST I would pay.
And yep, there are always oddball items with no resale value...I give it away...so then a third party benefits too!

Yes and No - If I KNEW the value of what I was buying, it might be an investment that I could turn around. If it were near cost, no way. I have bought an entire sellout of Boyds Bears for $3000 and turned them around to $12000. I have also bought a friend's sizzix worth $2800 for $600. I had the money at the time. With the economy where it is now, no. But I did need to sell my Dept 56 villages a few years back and someone paid $2200 at one time. They had the money also. Yes, it happens, but there are several things to take into consideration for both the buyer and seller.
Do people really buy $1,200 worth of stuff at one time
