Do you buy blank cards and envelopes or make them?
I had a pack of blank, white cards with envelopes that I just finished using. I'm still new to stamping, but I've been sb'ing for a long time. I used to use sb paper for my cards and then would use patterned paper to make my envelopes. I'm just curious what other stampers use.
Thanks,
Marji
I buy the packages of envelopes that SU sells. I figure I put so much love and time into making the card it should have a equally as nice envelope to arrive in! They sell them in packages of 40 for 5 or so dollars, i believe.
I buy boxes of A2 size envelopes from Staples or Office Depot. They run about $6 or $7 for 100 envies. They aren't as nice and thick as the SU ones, but they get the job done. I usually stamp them to match the card.
For cards I do what the other poster mentioned and use SU's cardstock, cut in half. I have seen some nice premade cards though, and may venture into trying them out.
The envelopes from Office Depot might be a good idea to have around too. For the not so important cards, you know? I might have to get a box of those too!

If I am doing a class or SAS, I will buy SU card stock with the envelopes in hopes of getting sales from the event. But I usually make my own cards out of whisper white and purchase the clear envelopes.
When I started making cards, I used the prepackaged cards with envelopes but they only come in so many colors. Now I use the cardstock I have and buy the envelopes from Office Depot or Office Max. The SU envelopes are nicer but I never think of getting some when I have just spent $$$$$ on all the stamps I just can't live without!!!
I bought a few packaged blank cards w/envelopes when I first started and still use one every once in a while. Granted I started stamping about 6 years ago so I guess that tells you how often that is

Kisa mentioned that she uses the clear envelopes....they are pretty to show off your cards. But, I did find out that it will cost more to send those. I asked at the post office before I bought a bunch...glad that I did. They said that it would cost more because they have to hand cancel the envelopes. They said that these clear envelopes are too thin and get torn easily.
I've bought my envelopes at a paper company....one is O-K Paper and the other is XPEDX. Both of these deal with businesses and are usually in a warehouse area.
I've also bought cards that are white or just cream (like Michael's)...then I put colored SU cut to the front only. The inside stays white.....easy to stamp the words at that point. But, I'm mostly using SU and cutting the 8.5X11 size in half....either direction.
This is just some stuff that I've picked up over the years......

You can also buy envies in the stationary aisle at WalMart or Target for $3-4 a box in assorted pastel colors. They're not thick, but they work!
I have been using premade cards/ envies, but now I'm starting to venture into making my own. I think it's cheaper to make your own. (I'm not using SU or other "big name" cardstock.)

This seems to be one of those individual PO things because I've never had to pay more postage using clear envies. I tend to make my own cards cutting my SU! or Papertrey paper in half, and use SU! clear or regular envelopes because the quality is wonderful!
In the beginning I did, but now I just use the SU cardstock and buy some envelopes at Staples at a discount (the onces in the stationary/invitation section).
One thing you can do to dress up the inexpensive envelopes is to use your pretty papers as a liner. Takes very little paper, and if it matches the card, it really is a wow.
I do both - sometimes I'll use the pre-cut cards if I'm pressed for time or if I'm looking to do something simple anyway (like when one of my kids needs a card for a friend's birthday). I won't put a ton of layers on the pre-cut ones though because the cardstock is not as sturdy as SU.
I've been stamping since 1996 and have always purchased cards and envelopes in white and vanilla (generally SU) or occasionally colors from Paper Zone. I use the SU cardstock cut to layer over the front piece, then have a nice white / vanilla inside on which to stamp my sentiment.
I know you can make your own, but IMO they just really do not look at crisp as the pre-folded ones!
