seriously.....look back 2/3 of the answers is CANVAS.
I was so trying to pare down my list.....grrrrrrrr.
OK, house is quiet, 1 am, laundry in progress...getting off here for a bit to actually stamp something....
I tell ya, if I'm looking at one of my own cards and I think something is missing -- it is either a subtle background stamp or ribbon! It doesn't always finish it, but it really does help!

I think the card is cute and the ribbon is creative. What about adding a small phrase stamp, maybe EFP, turned on its side to the left of the bugs to fill the empty space?

Here's one of my early posts that didn't get a lot of comments. The scan is funny because the sentiment is popped up.....but I would love to re-do it (I love this set) so let's here your suggestions!!!
Okay - I couldn't go to sleep tonight until I redid my card. I am attaching thumbnails of the before and after. Please let me know honestly what you think. (they are both done on the same color cardstock - the pictures were just taken in different lights)
You did a great job on the remake! I loved that challenge on vsn...to remake an old card. It's fun to see how you would change something. Wow, does that color look different though!

LOL! My dh is so trained he'll even look at cards and say, hey - that needs a background stamp, loL!
OKay this is scary - but I'll play too. This scrapbook page has barely any views. My scanner makes celery look awful, but what else could I do to help this page.

Everyone has their own style and preference for what they like. I do find it hard to leave feedback because often I never know if I'm suggesting something or trying to "make it my own" (hope that makes sense). In the end -- it only really matters if you like it!

OK.... phew....(wiping sweat off my brow).... I think I finally made it through all the ones posted. I noticed along the way that I had posted the same card twice. I did fix it and put in the correct link, so if you get a chance... let me know what you think.
Well, since most of the cards in my small gallery are pretty lackluster, I'm attaching a link to my entire gallery. I really would like to improve my stamping skills so pick any card and be brutally honest. There are a few that I'm proud of but not too many. And keep in mind that many are bad due to bad photography as well ;) dawn g's Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Dawn, I left a few suggestions in your gallery. But honestly...most of your cards are wonderful but don't look it because of the poor quality of the photos! When I went in and read what colors the cards were made from and then imagined what they would look like in those colors...I was like COOL! Try taking the picture in a bright room and make sure the card is not in any shadows. I also noticed that some of your earlier cards were from the TLC's and the CC's....come back and start playing the challenges again!!! We miss you!
Stamping regularly is a great way for everyone to improve their stampin' skills. I know that I have improved so much in the last year when I started doing the challenges. I would like to invite everyone to join in the challenges if you don't already play along!

Another suggestion:
I'm a night stamper and don't like to wait for the next day to post (bad, I know). So I actually bought some of those natural spectrum bulbs for the two lamps in my scramp area. That totally helped with my poor lighting issue. Sometimes too it depends on the color background you use to shoot the card against. I try NOT to make it bright white. If it is really bad, sometimes using Auto Levels (I use Photoshop, but I'm sure other programs have other options) will help too.

Thanks Beth! That was actually one of my new year's resolutions to start more challenges, but I've already broken it! LOL Once I get my stamp area back in order, I'll be ready to dive right in.
"Thanks" for being Honest about the cards...I can see doing some of the stuff that was suggested.
About the Roses in Winter card.
I do like the idea of sponging the BG on the white CS.
But I do like my Fern in the BG....I think if I added a Red Ribbon instead of the Green it would look better.
Good! I think it is also personal sense of style and I like all the cards that people send me....I just might not make mine that way. That's kind of whole idea. To put YOUR personality in a card, you're sharing a part of you! You keep your ferns and anything else that makes it "you"!

Well get it cleared up tonight so you can play VSN tomorrow (or tonight if you have time -- there are some challenges tonight)!

I love your gallery! I am going to be leaving quite a few comments. I'm glad that you shared. I wasn't brave enough to post my whole gallery. ;)
Here is one card...I know that it could do with an embellishment or something. I'm always worried about overdoing it. :p
Well I'm exhausted now! I've been through the whole thread and tried to be brutally honest on at least one of each posters cards! It felt uncomfortable to start with but, I have to admit, it got easier!!!! I wouldn't like to make a habit of it though!
Now it's my turn; there are some pretty unpleasant cards in the far reaches of my gallery... but I daren't go back that far. And, anyway, I think I KNOW what's wrong with those. But please tell me: what's wrong with this one: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I really liked it and all I could think to add were black eyelets in the bottom RH corner... but didn't have any at the time. So why did it only get two comments? Fire away!
I totally enjoyed making this card...I love collage but I guess it didnt pass the SCS test based on the amt of comments. Can I get an honest critique? Other than that I either seem to have problems with coming up with good scrapbook pages or people just dont look at them as much here. If you get a chance/feel inclined check out some scrapbook pages in my gallery and tell me what ya think!
Now Im off to clean up for the VSN preshow but I promise to be back later to look and comment on the cards that have already been posted. TTFN!
I want to thank everyone who posted in my gallery. I rechecked this thread and I have a few more people to check out... I got some great feedback. I agree that the canvas background can fix anything...I am off to fix a few of my cards...thanks for the suggestions and HONEST feedback.

I make cards and sell them to my brother who uses them for his landscape business. I never get validation from him -- usually it is a "that will work" (gee thanks!). But this hasn't gotten many comments and wondered what I could do to make it better (especially since I haven't made the 12 he wants yet).

Yes emilymomto3boys, It is a personal sense of style. I agree with you.
And I would like to point out it is Good to hear what other's think or feel. It's a chance to re-create your card or look at your artwork in a different view. Of course most of my cards that I have in my gallery have already been sent for swaps or Rak's to some of the other online groups I belong to. So those will have to stay they way they are.

Please Be Honest
Okay, I really like this one but there are no comments at all. Please everyone let me know what I could have/should have done to maybe kick this puppy up a notch
I'm a little nervous about doing this... I am doing this card for a "Birthday Bonanza" stamp camp on Sunday and it's gotten no comments. Granted, it's been posted for less than a week, but it seems most comments are on the first day or so. Plus, the scan is a bit fuzzy and crooked (does anyone else's scanner do this??? Don't answer that, I don't want to hijack! LOL) Anyway, here goes: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers. Now I'm off to check out some of the others left here...
Ok, I'm working backwords since those have been on here the least amount of time. Mary, I left a comment on yours, but I don't think I'll do that anymore... I'm going to just leave them in this thread because it looks like I've just made unsolicited advice/scrutiny in your comments. Ugh! I could get reprimanded for that. Anway, Karen, on your "much appreciated" I love how the red and orange make the focal point pop. However, the strip of red and orange behind it sort of detract from that visual pop. I'd like to see that exact card without the strips just to see if I'm thinking clearly... HTH (jeez, this is hard!)
Just would like to say thank you to everyone that posted on my card. Please feel free to comment on anything in my gallery. I have a difficult time trying to make stuff look as good as some I see on here, but will keep plugging away at it. catlady1's Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Okay, here is one I just loved!!! and only a few comments? I really thought it was a wow card! and nothing....tell me where I went wrong! I will post on comments when I have more time to go through them all. I have been trying to post on everyone's
Gen
Catlady, I can't make your link work so haven't been able to comment.
I'd like to thank those that commented on my card - the comments were v constructive and, as the card is long sent, I'll try to get round to remaking it. I now have black eyelets to add... and have also discovered the embossing powder on brads technique. I forgot to say that the two comments I already had were from my 'posse' - people I know who will always leave a comment on my cards to soothe my bruised ego! I suggest you all get a posse and then you'll never have a commentless card!!!
