Hi All,
Saw the thread on chalks...on what to call them...but my question is, do you like them if you own them? Do you use them a lot? Trying to figure out whether I should buy some.
Denise
p.s. how do you apply them? Can you apply to to very small areas on a stamp without going over the stamped line?
I do like my chalks. They are a quick way to color when you want a soft look. I really love them to do popping/pulling pastels. There is a tutorial about this but basically you stamp with versamark then use daubbers to color with chalk and the images appear. It is great for leaves, flowers etc. Enjoy!!
I like my chalks. I can't say that I use them all that much but I am going to make it a habit to use them more. The way I use my chalks is with a blender pen. You can put the blender pen straight onto the chalk itself (make sure you use only the corner of the chalk when using this pen) or in ink. If using a blender pen with ink you need to make a pool of in on the top part of the ink lid this is easily done by rubbing the closed ink pad.
I love my chalks!!! I just used them yesterday, actually. I typically use cotton balls and Q-tips to apply them. Very simple and easy! I usually use a light coat of (trial-size) aerosol hairspray to set them, too. HTH
You know what. Initially I didn't care for them I thought they were too messy. Then I learned how to do popping pastels which turns out really cool. The I found out about using them on ribbon so it's dual colored. Now I'm pulling them out way more frequently. They are a great way to get all the colors. So I guess the answer is yes I like them I'm a chalk convert.
I love my chalks. I use artist soft pastels and they are sooo nice. I like them for the softer look, and when using a blending pen they are bit bolder.

Nope, hated 'em. Finally gave them away, b/c I never even opened them.

I never used mine, so I gave them away. I think they are too messy of a medium to use.
I liked them before the crayons came out. Once the crayons came out, I hardly ever tough them anymore. I still use them occasionally, but not very much.
I found that when I first got my chalks I did not like them very much mostly because I did not know what to do with them. Once I started playing around with them I found many more uses and use them more often now. I have to admit though that I much prefer the WCC. If you want a softer look the chalks are definitely the way to go.

I love them! I use the blender pen technique with them and love the affect. They are very cool when adding just a hint of color to a black and white pic - very cool!
I did not use then much at first but LOVE them now!!!!! I use q-tips more than anything to apply. I buy the cheap no name brand and they work just as well.
I ecspecially like them with florals.

I never did give anybody hell. I just told the truth and they thought it was hell.
I know I read somewhere to use cotton balls to apply the chalk. What I found was that I crushed my chalks when I tried this. Better to stick with the q-tips!
I bought them early on and I rarely use them now. Maybe I just need some motivation or inspiration. I'm one of those good customers that once my demo shows us how to use something then I think *oh, I must have that!*
I love them. Do I use them everyday? No. But I bought mine 10 years ago (the pallette). Then when SU came out with their colors I had to have it. They don't "go bad" so what if you don't use them everyday? You will love the softness that they give a background. I did the man/boy in Seaside sketches. with a cotton ball & making stripes at an angle & then stamped in Night of navy over that. Great fathers day card or birthday card for your FIL. Easy Easy!
