Default do you make a 'general' size card?

I was just looking at a card online that had no dimensions, and when looking at the layers, I thought, hmm, wonder if that is a regular sized card? just wondering if you are layering a lot, do you make your cards bigger....and what about envelopes???? do you make your own?
Thanks

it is rare for me to make anything other than a standard invitation envelope sized card (4.25 x 5.5 front). I'm too lazy to cut the paper any other way.

Probably 90% or more of the cards I make are 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. That's because I'm lazy (LOL) and find it easiest just to chop a regular 8 1/2 x 11 piece of cardstock in half to make my cards rather than fiddle with other dimensions.

As far as envelopes go, I buy packages of 50 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 envelopes at Staples. They are labelled "invitation envelopes" and come in pastel colors as well as white or beige. They are a perfect fit for the cards. I also have a Kreate a Lope, but again, don't use it much due to laziness!

I pretty much only do 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. If my cards are square they are 3x3.

I thought all the other cards in the gallery were larger than mine! LOL! It's so nice to see that other card-makers just chop an 81/2x11" sheet in half and use that! Whew! Doing something right!
9kids...thanks for the info re the envelopes at Staples! And HELLO from a fellow Ontarian!!

I very rarely make anything but a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. If I make anything else it is a 6 x 6.

I noticed most cardmakers seem to use 8.5x11 cardstock so I assume that is why the 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 is the most popular? Since I also scrapbook I always have 12x12 cardstock, so I think that might be part of the reason I do more odd sizes. Plus, I like having a bit more space to add "stuff" on mine so I generally do A6-- 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 (premade envelopes) and occasionally 5x7 (colluzzle for envelopes)...seldom need enough space for the 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 though (premade envelopes also). For square cards I usually do 5 1/4" square (greensneakers template for envelopes) or 6" square (Prism premade envelopes).

I do all different size cards...I love to change things up.
Sometimes I make the card based on whatever size envelopes I have handy. My MIL has a friend that gets left over envies from a local card store.

My favorite lately has been the 3" x 6" they fit into your standard 3 5/8" x 6 1/2" envelopes that you can buy CHEAP! Like 100 for $1!!!

More often than not i do make my cards 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 finished size.
It is just easiest to work with for me - and envelopes are standard in that size too.

When I pick up the envies after the holidays, THAT size becomes my new general until they are gone. Most of the time they are 4 1/4 by 5 1/2, but some are a little larger or a little smaller. I tried making a few 6 x 6 and loved the look but not the envie - postage was a little higher. Also I made a STUPID inquiring mistake when I asked about the postage at V-Day with a piece of Ghir chocolate inside - thought it might be a little heavier with the layers and the candy. The guy told me I would have to pay for a parcel. I thought to myself - if I had not asked, you would not have known. Now I don't ask... I mail them from a different zipcode!

I like to make different sized cards, but then I pay for it when it comes to finding an envelope. I have to make one. I do this with Scor-Pal, which is not a big deal.

I have all the dimensions needed for several card sizes and just need to score it. Takes me 5 minutes. Plus I make the envelope with some cool DP (of which helps me get rid of my 3 foot stack).

But for a lazy stamper, that 5 minutes is sometimes just toooo long! ;)

 I guess I'm the person on here that makes the HUGE cards! --- I buy prescored bulk ones from Mike's normally (love the coupon for those) and cover to heart's content. Now I'm wondering if Staples do envelopes in that size too... I have to say I like the size - I find the other size a bit dinky especially if I were sending it as a card for an occasion. A Thank You or Notelet however, that is the size I go for.

I too like to make all different sized cards. I only starting making cards in December and do need to start thinking about making some envelopes for the cards I need to start giving out soon. Most of my recent cards have been made using Square 5.7" x 5.7" card blanks which have been much easier as I buy them in packs with the envelopes.

Most of the cards I make are 4.25" x 5.5". I also enjoy making 4.25" square cards.

I remember the first handmade card I ever received. Way back before I got into this hobby. I thought it was cute, but I also thought, wow, this is really small for a Christmas card. it was the "standard" a2 4.25 x 5x5 size. a half sheet of a regular sheet of paper- you get more cards for the money, and it is a perfectly acceptable size in the handcrafted cardmaking world.
But I find myself really doing more and more 5x5 or 5x7 sized cards now. I maybe spend a little more on paper, but I think there is a bigger impact and better impression made by the receiver. I mail the 5x5's in the 5x7 envie to save on postage.
