The Cheesecloth stamp, not the real stuff. The way it is on the stamp, it looks like something out of a haunted house, or torn off a mummy! I've used real cheesecloth & it isn't scary, but that stamp seems ICKY to me!
Then again, my 6 year old laughs at me because I thought the flying monkeys on Wizard of Oz were scary! Hmmm, that would make a good poll on the non-stamp area!
I AGREE!!!! About both the cheesecloth and the flying monkeys! I bought real cheesecloth to use on cards and scrap pages. Haven't tried it yet, but will post something when I do! But, yes, the stamp looks kinda prickly to me - whereas real cheesecloth is so soft.
I found myself recoiling when I first saw that stamp too. ICK! Now I've seen some awesome samples with it and - I can hardly believe it, but - I think I might want to get it. Check out jacksonbelle's gallery. I know she is one of the people using it a lot.
I have to admit I didn't like it at all when I first saw it. I wondered to myself why anyone would buy that. Look at this card I found today in the gallery, though. I was actually doing a search for the slit punch and came across this one. It really adds something to the background doesn't it!
For me personally I cannot wait to get cheesecloth! I can see it used with fall cards, Set Sail, the fly fishing set, and Seaside Sketches are just a few I can think of now.
Oh see now I like it but I have about four others on my list ahead of it!!! LOL So I have not even browsed the gallery for that one yet....man I tell you BG stamps are like an addiction...you don't need them until you have one...then it is two then three....you get my point!!! LOL;)
This is just to funny. Just last night I was looking at yet another sample with cheesecloth, and I thought that stamp is just scary, and a bit off.............Too funny. I really don't know what it is to me, I think that maybe I think it looks like guaze from a wound after it's taken off.........LOL

I love the texture it adds... it reminds me of magic mesh!!! I can't wait to try embossing it...I bet it will be a good replacement for MM when you can't afford to buy MM!
Ok, I really wanted this stamp until I read what you all thought about it LOL!
The gauze coming off a wound comment may turn me againnst this stamp forever LOL!! That's a tough visual to get past!
Just kidding -- that stamp is on my "to buy" list - I never would have thought of embossing it but what a cool idea!
Hmmmm.....I don't think I feel "afraid" of it! I have a bunch of others ahead of it on my list of wants/needs though. BUT - I have NO DOUBTS that once I see all the kewl samples SCSrs will come up with for it, that I will get it! I'm with ya Ker! Hi, my name is Angela, and I am addicted to BG stamps! I can't have just one! (Got 2 more coming on Tuesday...Floral and Ephemera)
I just ordered the cheesecloth bg stamp this week and can't wait to get it. I wasn't so enthused about it until I started to see card samples made with it.

I agree with the scary assessment. But hey, I'm open-minded. Let's be creative.
Here are my cheesecloth ideas.
You can use it as a fishing net with the trout fish in the angler set with the sentiment "stuck?" to offer support to a friend.
You could stamp it in red and blend it with some of the recipe card/kitchen sets as a get well card using the sentiment "kitchen accidents are no fun..."
Actually no. Now that I've grown to like Canvas and have it, I think Cheesecloth looks easier to use and still gives an effect of texture. I like the look of Crosshatch too.
Doggone it! Looks like I'm going to have to get this one too. I didn't like it at first. It was kind of like..eeewwwwwwwwwee! Now after seeing these samples.... I'm with ya Keri, definitely a background addict.

I've seen some awesome Halloween cards with the Cheesecloth background. There also wan an awesome card made by one of the dirty dozen gals in July's fanclub. She embossed the background with silver. It really looked soft and pretty with the purple paper and purple flowers on the card.
It's on my 'to buy' list for sure due to it's versitility.
The only thought I had was "redundant" . . . too much like Canvas (which I loved from the first time I saw it). Don't see anything scary or creepy about it at all, and in fact, there are lots of fabulous examples of it in the gallery already.

The samples of cards are BEAUTIFUL, but I still think the background itself is icky--- used gauze was a GREAT description! I'd say maybe it will grow on me, but that "visual image" (growing ON me) is even icky-er! I'm impressed with the ladies who can take something like that & make lovely cards, I must say!

See now that is sooo funny!!! I do not think it looks anything like canvas!!! It is so much shabbier than canvas and so open.
I'm happy that ChefMama asked the question! I just looked at a bunch of the examples and really love cheesecloth. It's so soft looking when the ink color and the CS color match. This is my favorite (I think)Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I like the center of the stamp, where the raggedy edges don't show. But I think the raggedy edges make it look like a crappy torn window screen.

I ordered mine last week. I think it will add interesting soft asymmetrical texture in partial backgrounds or layered with other backgrounds. And am looking forward to using it with chalk inks, embossing and craft white. I like butterfly cards and I think this look more like net than screen.
So many of the card magazines are featuring fragmented textures these days and I think this is, in part, Stampin Up!s response to that trend.
Just had to share that I thought of you ladies while at the hospital lab for some tests on my dd. They had to put some gauze on her arm & ALL I could think of when I looked at it was, "CHEESECLOTH STAMP!!!" with the "wound dressing" description! See, I thought of you even in the midst of my baby having tests! (my 9 year old baby)
