Can anyone give me ideas for places I can donate cards. I am already donating quite a lot to the troops but I would also like to donate to others in need. Has anyone given cards to hospitals and if so which department did you give them to. Thanks in advance!!
We have a top notch Cancer center here. People go in to have their chemo treatments done and we have gone there to cheer people up and I have given cards out. Also a friend of mine is involved in a clown ministry for a children's hospital and I have given her cards to pass out. I suggest you make up some fun cards and go to the hospital and ask a nurse in any ward you want to give them to someone who hasn't had many visitors. Thanks for your generous spirit!
You might also go do the same thing Jen suggested at a nursing home. While I was recuping in one, I met some of the most adorable older folks tha literally have no one. They've outlived their families & friends. I sat with one older gentleman & listened to his football stories from the 20's (I learned a lot about "real" football that day!)for almost 3 hours. His CNA said he told her about me everyday for more than a week. Unfortunately, he passed away while I was at a rehab center for more PT. I miss him.

Thanks for the great ideas. I was also thinking of picking a nursing home and getting a list of birthdays and personally sending a card to all the patients there on their birthdays. I'm also trying to get a little act together with my 4 kids, ages 2 months to 7 years, so they can perform for them.
On Valentine's Day I also thought it would be nice to make cards and give them out to the homeless. I thought maybe that would give them a spark of hope that people really do care about them.
How about a shelter for women and children fleeing from domestic abuse? Cards can be expensive and not something that someone in that situation can afford, but their children still deserve cards. Many of the families may have people to thank too, but no funds to purchase cards. Our location transition house suggests blank notecards so they can be multi-purpose.
I make cards for http://www.keikicards.org/ Look them up! It is fun and I even got some of my customers to donate. You don't need to send envelopes and I got a personalized stamp for the insides so they don't have to write the message everytime. They send out 200 cards a week to ill children.
Here is some information about them from their website:
Keiki Cards' mission is to send out handmade greeting cards to children who have life threatening illnesses. Our goal is give the child support through the mail and to let the child know that someone is thinking of them. Children range in age from infant to eighteen. These cards are sent out every week to approximately 200 children (the number of children can change weekly from the addition of new children to children who have passed) in Hawaii, across the USA, and Canada but Keiki Cards is not limited to sending to these areas. Keiki Cards will also send monthly birthday gifts and holiday gifts. Children are referred to Keiki Cards by friends, family, school teachers, social workers, churches and families also find us on the Internet.
I send cards to Keiki cards and to StampinGoodDeeds Yahoo group. Stampin Good Deeds sends cards to a nursing home and a VA hospital. Keiki has a sister program called Cards of Aloha also. Let me know if you would like more info.
Newbie here ... do you need to put anything on the inside? I would like to send some to the troops that were maybe blank on the inside that they could send back to a loved one but didn't know if that was possible??

I have donated cards to the "care group" at our church. They do not have a lot to spend on cards, and the shut ins and church members in the hospital really appreciate receiving a special card. Many are elderly and live alone. I have also worked with our youth group at church to make cards to send to the troops.
Nice to see mention of Keiki Cards. I'm a little partial since my SIL and I send out the Birthday cards and gifts for the organization.
You'll see some other web sites at the end of my post that we send to.
I also ran across this one last night on the announcement section of this forum under the title of 'Cards for kids with cancer' and like all the others mentioned they could use some extra cards. http://www.caitlins-smiles.org/.

Lots of good ideas on this thread and if you do a search on this forum you'll find more on the troops. Great way to share your talent.
