Has anyone had an embossing accident? Tell us about it.
I've had 2.
One, the kids were running while I was stamping and bumped the edge of the table, knocking over the jar of embossing powder...right on to the ink pad. Ruined BOTH.
The second was my own stupidity. I wasn't paying attention and spilled the jar while I had my heat tool running. I tried to pick it up before I turned off the heat tool and embossed the tabletop. DUMB.

I was embossing on a wood cross and wiped it off with a baby wipe, then let it dry for a few minutes before I stamped w/versa mark and the put red embossing pwdr on it. Well when I went to tap the extra embossing powder off the whole cross was covered. I just ended up heat setting it, doesn't look bad just not what I had intended. Next time I will just brush baby powder on it.
I had a good (or bad) one a few weeks ago:
My heat gun had been dropped a bunch of times and had a rattle-y piece inside. I had to hold it at a funny angle to get it to run. The angle put a kink in the cord. Over time, the kink must have developed into a tear as sparks, then small flames shot out of the cord near the tool. I was able to blow it out and unplug it quickly so no harm done except for my heart rate!

I was wearing a fleece Christmas shirt (with penguins-my favorite) while making my Christmas cards last year. I was holding the card in my hand chest high and aiming the heat gun toward the card, which means the heat was shooting straight at my chest. I did not realize anything was wrong until later when I glanced down to see something dark on my shirt. Did you know that fleece can melt? That little heat gun had melted the fibers of the fleece!:(
Needless to say, I now wear something cotton or an apron when heat embossing. I have also shared this embossing tidbit with all of my stamping friends.
I just have your standard "duh" one--close the lid of the embossing powder jar before turning on your heat gun. The table top has never been the same.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has had an embossing mishap. A few weeks ago, I ruined a VersaMark pad by forgetting that I hadn't poured the excess embossing powder back into the jar. It spilled all over the pad, and now it's all bumpy. Luckily, I have a brand new one that isn't even opened yet.
Yikes! Besides burning my fingers a few times, I don't have any that are as painful as yours. I do remember reading once about someone who learned the hard way that you do not emboss over carpet - because like the fleece shirt it melts!

(the cards turned out great despite the mishap!)
Wow! I've never tried that one! LOL!

Good to know!;)

First time embossing I laid my card on the carpet and embossed. Picked up the card and the carpet underneath had melted! It was in an apartment and they didn't notice the melted patch when I moved out!
I turned on my heat gun and was giving it a few seconds to warm up. I was holding it away from my project and craft table so I wouldn't blow things around. I embossed my project and went out my work. Later, I noticed a dark spot on my pajama bottoms. I had melted a small hole through my bottoms! Luckily, it was juuuuuuust above the lowest edge of the pocket so that the extra layers of the pocket protected my skin from being burned. I still have the bottoms and the small, black hardened spot reminds me every time I see it to be careful when using my heat gun.

While teaching my DD how to emboss, she accidentally knocked over the beautiful, glittery royal blue jar onto the hardwood floor. Her DH wasn't home and hadn't been introduced to the big messes that goes with stamping... and... he hates glitter. She was scared he would get mad if he got EP on his socks. She ran for a towel and got most of it up. I warned her NOT to throw it in the washer before shaking the daylights out of it. ;) Also, as an added percaution, to wash it with jeans first before adding it to her towel load. Thinking along those lines, I remembered those great dryer sheets. We grabbed some and managed to get all the residue left on the floor. Whew! Needless to say, she hasn't asked to emboss again. May God bless, Sandi

My house at the time that I this happened was a rental house built in 1870. LOOOVVED the house except for one thing... the floors are extremely uneven and the chair I use while stamping is on wheels. haha. I was sitting in my chair, dropped something, and when I bent to pick it up, my chair FLEW out from under me, crashing into the plastic drawers that i had my SU! ink holder sitting on top of with all of my embossing powders and reinkers in the top. YUP... you guessed it. KNOCKED over the ink holder, busted 3 embossing powder containers. Luckily though it didn't bust any of the reinkers but it did damage my ink pad holder.
Every time I swept in there from then on I found embossing powder! haha.
