They will not melt *IF* they are the ones made for Laser printers.
The others will curl up with any heat applied!
Aw Jenn, now you are going to encourage me to "borrow" a transparency from work and test the theory. I have a stack of laser transparencies that haven't been touched in 8 months.
I've always used the ones that are copier safe, so they can stand up to the heat of embossing. I love to emboss on them! It looks really great. Have fun with it.
Just a note, I work for a company that makes transparencies. They are all made out of the same material, polyester. The difference between the inkjet and laser/copier transparencies is the coating. The inkjet ones tend to curl because they are only coated on one side and have a thicker coating. I have seen them embossed on the "smooth" side after stamping on the "rough" side using classic pads when using transparencies that are for laser on one side and inkjet on the other. I even saw someone use multiple layers of UTEE and it looked beautiful.

I am new to splitcoast stampers. I just joined on Tuesday. I've been stamping for about a year now. This has to be the best place on Earth. There are so many ideas and good advice that I just want to do it all. Thanks for the transparency idea. I never thought about embossing or stamping on them. I can't wait to try it.
Can you tell me how much you paid for the transparencies at Wal Mart and how many were in the package? I tried to get some at Staples and Office Max and they only have packs of 100 sheets for like $15 - I don't need that many sheets and don't want to spend money on something I won't be able to use.
My husband bought me a box of 50 ink jet transparencies and last night I embossed on them several times with NO problems. They didn't melt or curl. I tried several times, and each time I got the same wonderful result. I wonder if it makes a difference on what type of Ink Jet Transparencies you use?
