Does anyone know about different eyelet setters? I was wondering about the silent one? I know you can use a punch to set eyelets but does it have to be a SU punch? and what size would the punch have to be? Also, if you use the punch, do you need to use any other tools? Thank you for the info in advance.

The silent setter works ok if you have good eyelets like SU's. The only thing I have seen with it is that it only has 5 "lines" so it splits the eyelet into 5 sections.
The one by making Memories has about 7 and although it is NOT silent, I really like this.
I have also had the spring loaded one by Eyelets Etc.. It was ok but after a while it broke. The plastic casing that you hold on to is now loose and slides and so I no longer can use it for it's purpose.
I have the Silent Setter by Provo Craft and I just love it... mostly because it's silent. My DH gets quite annoyed when I start pounding away. You do have to be careful the type of eyelets you buy though because some do not work well with the silent setter. Making Memories eyelets really do not work well with the silent setter. Doodlebug and SU! eyelets work great with this setter as well as any of the eyelets on www.eyeletoutlet.com. HTH a little bit!
I have a Silent Setter that my friend gave me for my birthday... she loved her's so much she wanted to share..... I don't have the heart to tell her that I HATE it with a passion! I can never get the eyelets to open and set right....
I use my Making Memories setter and love it... even with the pounding noise

eyelet setters
If you have the Silent setter you need to use aluminum eyelets...not the making memories eyelets...I have one and can do it with one hand...due to handicap... I do not have any trouble...just push down and twist...
Hi,
I have the silent setter and I LOVE it, it is totally silent, easy to use, easy to store, reasonably priced..... I don't have any trouble with using the making memories eyelets at all. Granted the SU eyelets are softer and they set a little easier but even the cheapo's work without warping or anything. It does split the back of the eyelet, but 9 times out of ten, mine are hidden anyway, the other time I have to wait till nap time is over!! Have fun deciding!
I love my Silent Setter--it also comes with three sizes of anywhere hole punch. If I am using an eyelet that is not working with the silent setter, I pull out the old hammer and setter and pound away!! Luckily, most are aluminum now!
Thanks for the info ladies. I have been wondering about the silent setter for ahwile now. I didn't know that it came with a the hole punch too.
I may have to try that one out! I get tired of the pounding!
It's not silent...but oh my...way easier than the plain old hammer kind. I had trouble using the punches even on the SU eyelets! I was unable to find the silent setter the day I "needed" one, but am very happy with the memory makers one!
I used to use the hammer and setter tools and found that it worked great on aluminum eyelets but not so great on the MM eyelets (which is what I mostly have).
I bought an MM eyelet setter last weekend with my Michael's 50% off coupon and have been enjoying it so much that almost every card I made this week had eyelets on it.
It's noisy but quick and easy and I like the "flower" shape that it makes on the backs of the eyelets.
Hi. I am very new to this whole thing - maybe have done 5 eyelets total since starting using the hammer at parties. Just got the MM Instant Setter at Michaels w/the 40% coupon but can't make it work to save my life - maybe my tension is wrong? Do I need to use soft or harder tension and which head - the cone or flower? (was using the cone after trying the flower one w/mm eyelets) It's almost at the top of the tension "guide". I did get one SU eyelet to finally work(after numerous mm eyelets) but none after that. I was thinking of trying to cut the back of the eyelets to help them along - okay, kind of kidding there but don't know what else to do - Any thoughts on this will be greatly appreciated - I am about on my way back to Michaels to return it and get the hammer tool set. I must be doing something wrong if all of you like it so well. Thanks in advance!!
Kathy
Nevermind folks, I found another thread talking about this referring to the Impress Rubber Stamp site and got the answer there - was doing it all wrong. Now the mm eyelets even work great!! = ) Thank you JustMelissa and GarnetJ!!!!!!!!!!
I have some MM tiny eyelets and can't seem to set those at all. They do not split at all and only end up looking like a squished piece of metal. I have the MM hammer kit. Has anybody been able to set those tiny little eyelets using any tools? I have thought of splitting the backs with a tiny screwdriver before trying to set them, but I have recently moved and had other things going on. The tiny eyelets are so cute, I would love to put them on my cards and scrapbook pages. Any ideas?
I had stopped using eyelets and switched to brads because I was sick of using the hammer and all those miscellaneous tools to set them. Plus, on the larger eyelets, I could NEVER get them to lay flat - they always curled up and buckled the paper. Then I got the MM eyelet setter tool and I **love** it! My thought after using it the first time was: "Wow, eyelets are BACK"!! I guess it is not totally "silent", but that is not an issue for me anyway. The results are fantastic and it has worked on all the brands and sizes of eyelets I have used it with! Definitely a must have item!
