Okay...so I'm wondering everyone's favorite/most versatile masculine sets. I always seem to come to a "bump in the road", when-ever I need to make a card for the boys/men in my family. TIA ;-)
I like classic convertibles for my DH and I have been using Little Trucks alot as well-it's cutesy, but in our family we have a lot of little boys, so I used it to make Father's day cards for all the Dads (as well as bday invites and thank you notes)....also Lovely as a Tree can make some nice masculine cards
I agree...my favorites are Classic Convertibles and Lovely as a Tree. I have also got Fishin' and Papa's Pocket (both retired) that I have used. I've even used the ornamental type stamp from Mostly Flowers. That makes an elegant card if you emboss it. HTH
Thanks for the responses so far! I will keep checking to see what you all suggest to me. Now I just have to find out where I can find the retired Classic Convertibles set.
I vote for Lovely as a Tree too! Especially if you want more for your money. You can use that set for just about anything. It works great for sympathy cards too. Check out the front of the new October Paper Crafts mag. They have a card made with one of the trees.

I like Summer by the Sea and Along the Shore too. I think men would be pleased with a card from one of those. In fact, I used the man and woman sitting together for an anniversary card. But I also like Noble Deer, Lovely as a Tree and Beautiful Season the deer in the snow stamp.
I think most of the Vintage sets would be great for men! A lot of the cards in the catty in the Vintage section are masculine-looking. I have also used a retired set, Fish Frolics, black on gray on black layers. Simply Circles is good, too. Hope you find one you enjoy!
I actually just hosted a swap that was for masculine cards. They all turned out so great. The sets used were, Set Sail, Lovely As A Tree, Classic Convertibles, In the Wild, Summer By The Sea, The Back Nine, Stars & Swirls, Frolicking Frogs, Fire Brigade, Travel Post, Quick & Cute, Godspeed, & Something To Celebrate. I also had one lady that used the Headline Alphabet set to do a miss you on the card. And one lady used the crosshatch BG stamp on Chocolate Chip Paper in Chocolate Chip ink. And then she did a strip of close to cocoa, strip of always artichoke and a strip of bravo burgundy all attached with black brads and then did her saying on white confetti CS over top of the strips stamped in Always Artichoke. The creativity of all of these ladies amazes me. My personal favorite set that I have is Lovely As A Tree because you can do all kinds of stuff with it. good luck in making your decision.

I am having fun with Power Up! You do have to have a "handy man" for that set - Lucky for me I do. Lovely as a Tree is a great versatile set. I also have Angler & Fishin I have used a bunch.
The two current set I use most for masculine cards are Fantastic Foliage and DD Pines. I also love the retired sets Wolf, Up in the Air (Airplanes, terrific set!), Roughing It, Calm Seas (lighthouse with ship going by) and I recently acquired Fly Fishing as well. I guess this isn't a lot of help, but I think Fantastic Foliage is such a quick and easy set to use on a masculine card! I bought Lovely as a Tree when it was on sale in March, guess I need to go mount it so I can use it, too!
My personal favourite is Set Sail - but my Dad really likes sailboats, so it makes me think of him. My husband likes Kanji - he really likes asian art. I was at a friends place one night and three of us were discussing which set she should get to do masculine cards. Her husband walked by, so we asked him. He chose Classic Pickups. Us women were all sort of surprised by that, cuz he's not a guy that's into classic trucks or anything. But, he liked the truck with the flames on it!
This is a great question. I run into the same delima.....we don't have fishers/hunters/golfers in our family so it's been hard for me to pick out a set. I've used All Natural for some...the acorn and leaf are not flowery but can be used for men's card...with burgundy/huntergreen and a gold color. Thanks for your input...I might have to get another 'man' set and these are some great suggestions.
I Versamark a background (Canvas or whatever) then use a sentiment and that's it. I don't really use an image. I don't know men who want trees, cars, wildlife, tools, etc...all the typical things suggested. JMO.
Loads of Love. I've made cards for Christmas, Birthdays, Valentines - all were enjoyed by the guys that received them.
Someone mentioned their husband likes asian art, mine too. Hadn't thought to use that for him. Oh, no, just got a weird flash of combining the truck with an asian theme, uck.
Ok, I'm going to get my husband's input on this. Why don't the rest of you ask them to look thru the catalog and see if they surprise us with ideas. My husband is a mechanic, so he'd probably like the new tool set. He's not available right now, so I'll get back to you later.

I think this is maybe one area of SU designs that I personally think is poor purely for me, not for others, masculine and boys' designs. I like Sporting Goods and Angler. We don't really play American football, basketball or baseball over here, so those sort of sets are all no good to me, not that I think the designs are horrid, they are great, but my dad would look at a baseball card and go HUH!
I would love it if they did a really good soccer set.
I like the leaf stalk from Art of Life set, it looks really good done in coppers and browns for men's cards.
I also have the Rip and Shred set from the Spring mini which is great as my son and his friends love mountain-biking as does my husband.
I really like the design of Fire Brigade, but our trucks and uniforms look different over here, so I can't use it.
WOW! Never thought that the "American Specific" sets would be useless to you all over seas...DUH! But, yea...that bites for you. I agree...I good soccer set would be AWESOME. It's big over here in the USA now so all could us it all over the map. Maybe some big wig will read our thread and start thinking about SOCCER. Our 4 1/2 year old is on a little league this fall...he LOVES it. It's so good for them.
Honestly, I gave up on making any "masculine" cards...they just weren't being appreciated enough like the "feminine" ones were....hmm...maybe instead of me not making "masculine" cards, I should just get a new man! ROTFL j/k

I actually asked DH when I got the new catty to pick out the "guy" sets. He picked Good Sport, Power Up, Sporting Goods, Noble Deer, Angler, Bareback, Travel Post, Fire Brigade, Office Ephemera, Set Sail, The Back Nine, Classic Pickups, Balmy Breezes, Land That I Love, and Thinking of Father. He really likes the vintage ones best like Travel Post and Office Ephemera. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to do vintage cards yet. Any one have any suggestions...oops, sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Anyway, those were the ones he picked. I'm very lucky that he's interested in what I like to do even if he doesn't want to try it himself.
Well, asked my husband - mostly he likes the outdoors themes, sports themes, etc. Ho, hum - no surprises there.
I have a 9 year old son, he appreciates the cards I make for him to give at birthday parties and Valentines Day. He gives me a hug and says he's lucky to have a crafty mom. Young boys are easy to please.

Wow...thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I have a pretty good idea what sets I want to get...and will check out the gallery for ideas. I am getting Classic Convertibles, Lovely As a Tree, and Artifacts to start....and will try to get a few more later. Thanks so much everyone!! You're great help!
