Default FREE fonts!

I saw another thread about a specific font and it reminded me that lots of folks could benefit from this very cool site with tons of FREE fonts!

http://www.scrapvillage.com/

Go to Library, then Fonts. I have to follow the directions every time to download them, but they work like a charm. There are tons of neat ones here that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Enjoy!

I second that. I also just visited:

1001fonts.com

and downloaded some. They list some other sites for free fonts, but I haven't tried them. They are:

PCfonts. com
TopFreeFonts.com
AbstractFonts.com
Best100Free.com
HighFonts.com

I have heard that many free font sites place cookies on your computer, and some place spyware. You may want to check out their privacy policy first, and scan any downloads for viruses before installing them.

So I have seen these, but wondered how they work - you download them, then do they get sent to your word or scrapbooking programs? Is it hard, with a 3 year old getting into trouble I don't have a ton of time to mess with these things lately.

It takes a little bit of know-how. The files (.ttf) can be downloaded anywhere on your computer that you want to put them. I usually save them to my desktop.

Most come "zipped", so you will first have to "unzip' or "extract" them. If you have Windows XP, you just right click on the folder that you downloaded onto your desktop (let's pretend it's called FANCYPANTS--so find the icon on your desktop called FANCYPANTS.ZIP) and choose "extract all." After it unzips them, you will probably find another icon on your desktop, this one called FANCYPANTS.TTF.

Now - go to START, CONTROL PANEL, FONTS. Click FILE and choose "install new font." It will then ask you for the location of the new font file. You keep clicking until you are at the desktop folder where your FANCYPANTS.TTF file is. Highlight the ttf file and hit the go (okay) button. It should automatically install it. Then it will be available along with any other fonts you have to use in your word processor program, etc.

Oh dear---I'm not sure I did a very good job describing that. It's really not very complicated once you have done it one time. LOL

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the fonts link. I've been to a lot of free fonts pages, but this one in the OP was full of ones I've never seen before!
