There are 13 people in my office and for Christmas, I wanted to decorate and fill a can with homemade candy. I found Swanson chicken broth cans that have the pop top (the fruit cans would be so small) and thought COOL! I'll make a big batch of Chicken Dumpling soup for the my "white hair" friends from church and then use the cans for the candy. I spent all Sunday afternoon decorating the cans, filling them with candy and sealing them. This morning, I put the cans on each desk. One of the guys in the office next to mine said "but Carol, how do I get the candy out?". I said, "pop the top". Wait.... here comes the funny... The Swanson broth cans open like a pop can, the whole top doesn't come off!!! We laughed so hard. Here, he was trying to figure out how to get the candy out of that little hole LOL. I had to go find a regular can opener and everyone had to re-open the can from the bottom. O'well, they loved the idea (and the candy).

How funny! Thanks for sharing. I handed out some of the small fruit cups at work today filled with M & M's. One lady thought I was giving her Sterno! (She changed her mind once she shook the can!).
the funniest thing is I almost bought those same cans but I was going to wait until tomorrow to get them! (a few easy & fast last min.. gifts) good thin I popped on here & read your story! LOL!!

OK, I must be way out of the loop on the fruit-can thing. Can the pull tops be put back on or something and made into a cute container? I'm feeling quite lame not knowing! :oops:
Well that was funny I'm sure you all had a laugh about that. But on the upside they would be good if you do m&m's or something like that.

Carol, that is so funny! Michelle Wooderson and I have been snickering about how funny it would be to give filled fruit cans out and "accidently" give one to someone with the fruit still inside!! That pop-top story really gives me the giggles!!
Oh, Michelle, how did you know that I cannot resist a dare?! You're on - but I have to pick the right time. I just gave my girlfriends their Christmas cans, so I'll have to wait a bit. I'll let you know when I strike!!
That is sooo funny. I was laughing out loud and I usually don't when I read something. I bet everyone loved them anyways and you also had a good laugh. TFS!
