I am refurnishing my stamproom on a tight budget so really have to go with the particle board stuff (no Pottery Barn for me :( )... so I have two choices in color for the brand that has the options I need -- maple and white... like the brightness of the white, but scared it will get too dirty... the existing three peices of furniture (LARGE desk, bookcase, small cabinet) are pine so I guess both maple and white would clash a bit...
I voted for white...'cause it sounds like you already have some heavy (visually heavy) pieces in a wood finish...I think if everything is in the wood finish it would look darker and heavier than you might like? HTH

I voted for white - I dont think maple would go well with the pine that you allready have, and if you ever decide to change things, you wont have to stress because you know that white goes with everything.
Plus, generally, white is cheaper = more money for stamps!
my first thought was white, until I saw that your other stuff was pine. Because of that, I think the maple might look nicer between the two. I'm all about the aesthetics of it!
Depends on what your taste is! I personally like the "real wood" look. And my pieces oak and oak looking ;) I also have a cabinet that is White partical board stuff. right now it is in the kitchen because we lack storage in there but if I could put it in my stamp area I would....
Guess that was not really any help for you huh! the good thing about the Maple is that you can use the patch pen to fill in any imperfections it might get. The white you use a mr. Clean Eraser on and viola it is clean!

Totally agree.....white with the Mr. Clean ...........in fact I think I'm the unpaid spokes person for the Magic Eraser........they are AWESOME!!!!!!
Back to the furniture...........white will also keep it bright and lively!!
I have the white "particle board" stuff & I like it fine! My friend just redid her stamp room with the pottery barn & she second guesses it all the time. At least if I decide I don't like my particle board maybe someday I can upgrade. She got black & says she has to dust it all the time!
I'd go Maple--wood is very soothing to the senses. Wood is a neutral and will go with any wall color you choose. Besides, you can always use those pieces of furniture later in other rooms of your house if you move or remodel that way. JMO

After spending much time in the appropriate area of the SCS gallery, I decided that I prefer the look of the white storage better (despite somehow managing to click the other option on the poll - sigh!). Why not cruise the galleries to see what others have done? As you can see from the responses, it's really just a personal preference.
I'm voting white for a couple of reasons. It will always looks clean and it's neutral so it goes with everything. Also, I (just me personally!) hate the look of "fake" wood so wouldn't even consider the maple. I bought the Store-n-Style cubes for my scrap room and they're white. I LOVE how clean they look and how good everything looks in them. I have 2 scrap tables in my room -- one is a light-color-stained ash drafting table and the other is an old ash dining room table in the same light stain. I think they look great with the white. Plus, no matter what color scheme I want to decorate my room in, it will always look good with the white. Ok, just my 2 cents worth! Have fun decorating your new room!!
I vote for white also. You can use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser if they get dirty. Those things rock.
Carrieflanagan...that puppie looks just like my Jake when he was little. He's one now and still is white for the most part. He's a yellow lab, too.

thanks for all the ideas... I ended up going with the maple for two reasons -- that's all our local store had and with gas prices the way they were I wasn't driving 30 miles to the next one -- and DH pointed out that since the kids' stuff is all in white, mine should be different to kind of define my space (the room we share runs the entire length of the house so this makes it look more like two distinct sections. wonder if I could paint it certainly celery.....
not what I've seen posted here, but lots of space, used mainly things we already had, spent a grand total of $110 if you count the Iris cart I bought a month before...
