It's not just because it's Sunday, though. Uploads to the gallery must be manually approved by an SCS team member before they will show up, with the only exceptions being uploads from team members and mods, who get instant approval. It keeps the gallery organized (they have to recategorize images that are not put in the proper section), prevents inappropriate images from being posted, and keeps the gallery from being used as a free personal online photo album. We've been asked not to upload at all on Sundays, even though the images won't be approved till tomorrow, because it prevents the team from having to deal with a humongous backlog of pending images on Monday morning.
The length of time it takes for approval could range anywhere from minutes to hours. It depends on how many images need to be approved, and how much time each team member can devote to approving. They do have jobs and families, after all, and help out with SCS purely as volunteers!
